Sir C. V. Raman was an Indian physicist born in 1888 who did pioneering work in the field of light scattering and spectroscopy. He discovered the Raman effect in 1928, for which he received the 1930 Nobel Prize in Physics. Raman made many contributions in fields like acoustics, optics, and crystal physics through his research and published works over many decades, helping establish Indian science and institutions before his death in 1970.
