Philosophy Finals is a process of eduction which is a combination of obversion and conversion processes. 2 changes: 1.Like conversion- switching the S-term and P-term. 2.Like obversion- contradict the new S-term and new P-term. 2 Types: 1.Simple/Absolute Contraposition -applicable to A and O prop. RULES: Rule 1:“switch the S-term and P-term.” Rule 2:“contradict the new S-term and new P-term.” Rule 3:“retain the copula.” Rule 4:“retain the quantifier.” 2.Partial/Limited Contraposition -applicable to E prop. RULES: Rule 1:“switch the S-term and P-term.” Rule 2:“contradict the new S-term and new P-term.” Rule 3:“retain the copula.” Rule 4:“limit the quantity (change from Universal to Particular) NOTE: I has no contraposition. One way of getting the contraposition Single obversion-conversion process [in succession order] Given: All human beings are modals.(A) Obverse: All human beings are not immortals.(E) Converse: All immortals are not human beings.(E) Obverse(contrapositive): All immortals are non-human beings.(A) Syllogism Has 3 proposition 1&2. Premises 3.Conclusion Has 3 terms involved (repeated twice) e.g. All Filipinos are hospitable persons. All Ilocanos are Filipinos. All Ilocanos are hospitable persons. Major Term- The predicate of the conclusion. Minor Term- The subject of the conclusion. Middle Term- not found in the conclusion but found in the premises. Major Premise- have the major term. Minor Premise- have the minor term.
