2. WHAT IS CLASSROOM MAMNAGEMENT?
Classroom management is creative: It creates both the
best situation in which the students can learn and the
teacher can teach.
Procedures and instructional techniques that are used
to establish the classroom environment so that
learning can occur. Management strategies are based
on understanding how the classroom environment can
be used to best accommodate students needs”.
Classroom Management refers to handling the class in a way that Students’ Learning
Outcomes could be achieved effectively.
3. HOW CAN TEACHERS INSTIL A POSITIVE AND STRONG
CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT
Routines—also known as classroom procedures—rid
students of distractions that waste time and interfere with
learning. Guesswork is minimized. Minor frustrations and
inconveniences are fewer, as are opportunities for
misbehavior. The students, then, are left to focus on
learning. - Michael Linsin, writer of the blog “Smart
Classroom Management” and author of the book Dream
Classroom
4. #2
Positively stated rules are clear to students and provide
observable behaviors for teachers to praise. Negatively written
rules focus on what's wrong and put our classrooms in
punishment mode.” - Sara Davis Powell, author of Introduction
to Middle School
6. DISCIPLINARY INTERVENTIONS
• The most effective deterrent of inappropriate behavior is good
instruction!
• After that comes physical presence.
• A friendly reminder.
• A firm reminder – in private
• “Go to the office!!!!” should not be the first response unless the
offense is totally reprehensible, dangerous, thoroughly disruptive
and against a hard and fast school rule.
7. THE DON’TS OF CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
Do not publicly discipline a student as this will lead more off task
behaviors.
Do not lose control of your emotions as they will learn what buttons
of yours to push.
Only refer students with disciplinary referrals for major infractions as
you are handing over your problem to someone else.
8. LAST WORD
“Being an effective Class Manager
is not a talent which some people just have
and others do not – it is a set of skills
and an attitude learned throught
patience and practice”
