Lime mortar uses lime as a binding material along with sand and crushed stone. Cement is sometimes added to lime mortar to increase its strength and decrease setting time. Cement mortar is stronger than lime mortar and gains strength more quickly. There are different methods used for mixing mortar depending on the quantity needed, including hand mixing, machinery mixing, and mixing in trucks.

2. The mortar in which lime is used as
the bindings material is called lime
mortar. Sand and crush are used to
make lime mortar. For the purpose of
plaster we used fat lime. But mostly
we used hydraulic lime. This mortar
had been used in the past time.

3. To make the mortar of the lime strong
and to decrease the setting time
cement is added. Cement should be
used accordingly to the quantity of the
mortar which should be used within
two hour. The setting time of lime and
cement is different, that’s why
precautions is needed.

4. Cement mortar is much stronger than
lime mortar. And it quickly catches
strength. Nowadays this mortar is used
everywhere. Hand mixing is used to
make mortar in a less quantity and if
more quantity is needed machinery is
required. In cement mortar stone dust
and sand is used instead of inert filler
material. Normally sand is used as a
mortar in plaster, whereas in stone
masonry stone dust is used.

5.  During minor works hand is used in mixing
mortar whereas in large works
machinery is used:
 There are three types of cement mortars:
 Mixing mortar with hand
 Mixing mortar with machinery
 Mixing mortars with trucks.

6. Clean and clear is required for hand mixing
Where mixture is done.
To accomplish this task Sometimes bricks
are used to make a floor.
When cement is dry sand and crush stones
are mixed minimum three times.
When the colour of the mixture is same
then we gather it.

7.  To make mixture for large projects truck is
used, which carry mixture from stores
and delivers it to the required place.
 Fixed quantity of dry sand and cement is
calculated and added into the trucks
and water is also added according to
the quantity of dry sand and cement.
 On its way to the required place mixture
is automatically mixed up and gets
ready to use, this way less time is wasted.

8.  Machinery is used to mix mortar in large
works. the required machinery is named
as concrete mixer.
 This machine is runned by diesel engine
or electric motor.
 Fixed quantity of Crushed stones, sand
and cement is added in the machine.
 This mixture should be used within half an
hour.

9.  Before the initial setting time of binding
material used in the mixture should be used, if it
crosses the limited time then the mixture should
be wasted.
 After crushing Lime mortar the mixture should
be kept wet with water.
 Masonry done with lime mixture should be kept
wet for six days.
 Masonry should not be high more then 1.5
meter in a day.
 Before Masonry bricks should be well wet with
water, so that It does not absorb water from
the mixture.
