Ukrainian Village is a neighborhood in Chicago that was originally settled in the late 19th century by German immigrants and later by Polish, Slovak, and Ukrainian immigrants in the early 20th century. It has historically been an ethnically Ukrainian neighborhood that helped preserve Ukrainian culture and religion. Today it is a diverse neighborhood that still maintains remnants of its Ukrainian heritage through churches, cultural institutions like the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art, and Ukrainian-owned businesses including deli's and the Selfreliance Ukrainian American Credit Union. The neighborhood provides a mix of Ukrainian and other Slavic and Hispanic influences.
