My name is Danai Mila and I come from
Greece, a country with heritage that goes

3. The History : Civilization
The Greek civilization started in the
8th century BC. Ancient Greece was
the birthplace of Philosophy,
Democracy and the Arts. The urban
life of ancient Greeks was governed
by mythology, folklore and the
myths around heroes.
Philosophy involved debates around
reasoning and logic ,whereas
democracy depicted a society
where everyone has a saying. Art
aimed to capture the ideal, to create
beauty and harmony.

The people of the country have suffered
numerous wars and hardships throughout
the years.
Although we are not in a war situation,
current national press pictures suggests
otherwise.
Due to the current austerity measures,

Greece in the rest of the world.

History is inextricably linked to tradition.
Tradition and customs most of the time have
religious character with reference to family, food
and entertainment.
For instance, Greek names usually come from
religious figures and are celebrated on calendar
‘’Name Days’’. On the day of celebration the
whole family gathers for treats and
entertainment. Even for people that do not
practice religion, these celebrations are part of
their culture.

The country has a rich and diverse landscape with distinct sharp
mountains, azure blue seas as well as a complex of picturesque islands.
The natural recourses offer inhabitants a plethora of fresh healthy and

fruits, meat, seafood, oil, and wine. Greece has a mild Mediterranean
climate and sunny days most of the year.
Due to our life style and social cohesive society, Greeks are considered
