Editor's Notes

  1. Transportation is an integral part of a tourism system providing tourists with a means to travel to their desired destinations. Currently NH does not have a statewide transportation system and in terms of public transportation NH’s region are very isolated from one another. There is no form of public trans. That connects the regions.
  2. This proposal intends to supply an outline for a commuter rail system for the Connecticut River Valley between Claremont Junction and White River Junction, Vermont with service to the Upper Valley. The project will assess the region’s projected demand for ridership with a goal of providing safe, convenient, and reliable for both tourists and residents of the Connecticut River Valley.
  3. Smart growth principles: mix land uses, range of housing opportunities and choices, strengthen and direct development towards existing communities, variety of transportation choices, encourage community and stakeholder collaboration in development decisions
  4. 17 separate entities 1980 close to 800 miles of active
  5. People moving to more rural areas where affordable housing is available Need for more rental units NH: 80% of pop commute in a single-occupant vehicle to work and less than 1% use public transportation
  6. Shorter commute times, more sidewalks and less sprawl Shorten commute time with public trans. Improvements and changing patterns of housing developments More housing for moderate to low income levels and slowing the rate of development of open space
  7. Developed by the City/County Association of Governments of San Mateo County Eligible projects receive grants Funds also provided for community improvements: sidewalks, plazas and rec projects Directly links land use with efficient use of an existing transportation system Other communities in California are adopting similar incentive programs
  8. Generally connect suburban areas to job centers Daily operation with more trips during peak travel times Amtrak Vermonter: ridership increase of 17% 2007 to 2009 Tourism: connections to ski areas/ scenic rides
  9. New Hampshire Capital Corridor Project: Connect Concord, Manchester and Nashua to Boston by extending the Boston to Lowell service operated by the MBTA
