This document outlines the importance of confidentiality training for hospital staff and describes UCLA Hospital's training process. It recommends that each department receive training on confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines. The training involves a written exam, practical exams through virtual and real-life simulations, and an oral exam. Staff must also sign a waiver acknowledging they will not disclose patient information as a condition of employment. 2. Confidentiality
 One of the best ways to train people is to make sure
that each department in the hospital has a clear
understanding of the term confidentiality, and its use
in patient care.
 After each department in the hospital has this
understanding, it is important for each departmental
employee to know how this understanding is
interpreted under HIPAA Laws and guidelines
 Waiver signing determines acknowledgment of terms
and conditions of staff’s employment.

a.) personally supply full name in computer for
verification before service is rendered to
each patient.
b.) Fingerprint recognition
c.) Handwritten signature (viewed via Department
Supervisors)

6. Confidentiality: Waiver Signing
 Waiver Signature
- shows consent and acknowledgement of terms placed
before employment, at present time of employment, and after
cessation of employment dictating that no patient information
will be leaked or discussed to all types of media, family, or
friends.
 Doing so will result in immediate grounds for dismissal,
suspension, possible fines, and/or federal criminal charges.
 Refusal of waiver signature results in UCLA Hospital’s own
discretion to refuse employment.
