A computer is a device that can perform logical and arithmetic operations by responding to specific instructions. It consists of both software and hardware. Software includes operating systems and application programs that tell the computer how to process data, while hardware refers to the physical components of the computer. Computers can be connected together in networks, either locally as a local area network or spanning large geographic areas as a wide area network. An operating system is system software that provides an interface between the user and computer, and creates an environment for running application programs. Computers provide advantages like speed, accuracy, diligence, and large storage capacity.
