- #3 The audience wants to hear what you have to say not what the power point has to say. Do not feel like the slide has to be covered with text and charts. The less stuff on your slide the better the presentation will be.
- #4 Don’t be guilty of having too much text and bullet points on your slides. Do not read off of your power point, engage with the audience instead.
- #5 Animation and bullet point transitions are not always good. Transitions can be very slow and bore the audience. Try to not do transitions to another slide every time. You also should not use more than three different types of transitions.
- #6 Use nice high quality photographs. Do not make it pixelated, keep it clear. Avoid Clip Art or cartoons. The audience has seen the clip art many times and wants to see something different and original. Try to use pictures of real people so the audience can feel like they can connect with what you are talking about.
- #7 Keep a theme going throughout your powerpoint. Avoid using the Power Point templetes. They are so over used and the audience needs a change. Be original and your audience will be more engaged. Do not have a cookie cutter presentation
- #8 Ask yourself when adding data “how much detail do I need?” presenters usually puts too much data in their charts that the audience doesn’t understand.
- #9 Color evokes feelings. It can persuades and motivates people. Learning is shown to increase interest and learning. If the lights will be off during the presentation then a dark background will be good. If the lights are on then a light colored background with black text will work nicely.
- #10 There are two types of fronts. One is called Serif font, an example of it is Times New Roman. That kind of font is best for documents with a lot of text included in it. The other font is called Sans Serif, an example of it is Arial. Make sure that the font you choose can be read from the back of the room and that it is legable.
- #11 The use of videos and audio can be good in a presentation. It shows an example of what you are talking about and is something different for the audience to listen to. It can be displayed right on your Power Point. But do not include audio animations it could be cheesy.
- #12 Check that your slide makes logical sense. If you use the slide sorter you can see if you need to change anything.
