Modern Fire Tactics for Mid-Size Fire DepartmentsRommie Duckworth
Every firefighter has heard about the “new fire science” but until now most programs have either been focused more on the numbers and the science than on the tactics and operations or they present everything in bits and pieces, addressing one aspect or another, not quite giving the big picture. This program uses a straight forward approach to show how officers, Chiefs and firefighters in mid-size departments can use new information to give more options, not less. Honoring the traditions that keep our fire service great, this program shows how to use modern fire tactics to be an effective, aggressive department, even if you can’t expect 8 engines, 4 truck companies and a rescue at every fire.
This is the presentation I gave to students and faculty about creating a personal brand using social media, as part of the Red Carpet Seminar Series, February 24, 2010 at the Living Arts College at the School of Communication Arts, Raleigh NC (http://www.higherdigital.com)

Builder.ai Founder Sachin Dev Duggal's Strategic Approach to Create an Innova...Ramesh Iyer
In today's fast-changing business world, Companies that adapt and embrace new ideas often need help to keep up with the competition. However, fostering a culture of innovation takes much work. It takes vision, leadership and willingness to take risks in the right proportion. Sachin Dev Duggal, co-founder of Builder.ai, has perfected the art of this balance, creating a company culture where creativity and growth are nurtured at each stage.
Keep it simple. You want the positioning of your slide, as well as the background to reflect what you are trying to say without their being any clutter or confusion for the audience.
Make sure you limit the amount of bullet points you use. Generally, you should only put one idea per slide and then actually explain to the audience the point you want to make.
Limit the amount of animations you use, and when animations are used, keep it simple.
Using high-quality images and graphics adds to the seriousness of your presentation. There is nothing worse than cheesy clip-art! (And it’s tacky)
Having a theme is important, but don’t use the templates. People will get bored if every slide is exactly same, and if everyone’s presentation is the same because they used the same template. Be original!
Use appropriate charts! Do not put too much information on the screen; this will just confuse your audience.
A color scheme can make or break a presentation. Make sure the colors are tying the whole thing together. Also, be sure the colors are visible to the audience in the space you are presenting in.
The easiest font to read is a Sans Serif font. The audience needs to be able to easily read every word on your slide.
Using video or audio can be really neat in a presentation. It’s a great way to grab people’s attention again, and also make a point. People generally respond well to a video or audio clip.
This tool is for your benefit. By using the slide sorter, you are able to see how your presentation is progressing. You are also able to see the unified color schemes and themes to keep the consistency of your presentation.
