autobiography (awtuhbiiogruhfee) noun a true story of the author's own life
biography (biiogruhfee) noun A true account of a person's life written by another person.
cause (koz) noun,verb An action or event that makes something else happen
compare (kuhmpEHr) noun,verb
1. Consider or describe as similar, equal, or analogous. "We can compare the Han dynasty to the Romans"
2. To describe as similar,or alike.
contrast (kontrast) noun,verb To tell how two ideas, things or people are different.
description (dihskrihpshuhn) noun writing that uses details and the senses to give the reader a feeling of "being
there"
effect (ihfEHkt) noun,verb Something that follows and is caused by some previous events.
fiction (fihkshuhn) noun
1. A story based on the imagination and not necessarily on fact.
2. Stories that are written to entertain the reader.
folktale (fohktayl) noun A tale circulated by word of mouth among the common folk.
genre (zhonruh) noun A kind of literary or artistic work.
informational article Articles that give factual information on a variety of topics.
main idea the most important idea of a paragraph, section or whole piece of writing
nonfiction (nonfihkshuhn) noun a written work based on facts
poetry (pohuhtree) noun
1. uses rhyme, rythm, and colorful language to give the reader a special feeling
2. expresses a poets thoughts and feelings
procedure (pruhseejur) noun a series of steps for doing something
realistic fiction made up story that could be real but is not
science fiction Books and stories about imaginary things in science such as space travel.
sequential order arranging the text in a series of steps or actions
supporting details The details in the story that help support the main idea.
