Consideration of fixed mobile convergence in 5GITU
This presentation will introduce IMT-2020 fixed mobile convergence (FMC) scenarios and requirements, such as service continuity among different access networks in a 5G environment. Based on the requirements, a FMC solution, Unified Network Integrating Cloud (UNIC), will also be introduced, including the high level architecture and some key technologies, such as unified access control for both fixed and mobile, edge computing for user plane, converged subscriber database, Telecom Integrated Cloud (TIC), etc.

Core Network Optimization: The Control Plane, Data Plane & BeyondRadisys Corporation
This presentation takes you through the challenges network operators are facing as they bring in more and more bandwidth-intensive applications to their network. There are ways to optimize the network from the RAN to the Core -- and improve QoS.
Femtocells, a technology little-known outside the wireless world, promise better indoor cellular service. In telecommunication, a Femtocell is a small cellular base station, typically designed for use in a home or small business. It connects to the service provider’s network via broadband.
Current designs typically support 2 to 4 active mobile phones in a residential setting, and 8 to 16 active mobile phones in enterprise settings. A Femtocell allows service providers to extend service coverage indoors, especially where access would otherwise be limited or unavailable. For a mobile operator, the attractions of a Femtocell are improvements to both coverage and capacity, especially indoors. A Femtocell is typically the size of a residential gateway or smaller, and
connects into the end-user’s broadband line. Once plugged in, the Femtocell connects to the MNO’s mobile network, and provides extra coverage in a range of typically 30 to 50 meters for residential Femtocells. The end-user must declare which mobile phone numbers are allowed to connect to his/her Femtocell, usually via a web interface provided by the MNO. When these mobile phones arrive under coverage of the Femtocell, they switch over from the Macrocell (outdoor) to the
Femtocell automatically. All communications will then automatically go through the Femtocell.

Simplified Call Flow Signaling: Registration - The Attach Procedure3G4G
This presentation/video provides an example of the registration procedure. The device or UE needs to let the core network(s) know that it is switched on and active. This procedure is known as registration. The UE can register individually to the CS and PS core networks. Most modern networks allow combined registration (or combined attach) whereby the UE registers only to the PS network and the PS network informs the CS network that the UE is active.

• Site and EME surveys and radio network planning
• Base station installations
• Integration to existing network management systems
• Subscriber installations
• Ongoing support of the network under SLA
Orange Botswana Gondwana Communications provided Orange Botswana (via France Telecom)
WiMAX: with a 2.5 GHz TDD 802.16e Alvarion WiMAX solution, enabling it to diversify
from its current GSM operations and start to offer
broadband voice and data services.
The ongoing project is inclusive of the following
components:
• Site and EME surveys and radio network
planning
• Base station installations
• Backhaul planning and installation
• Network management
MWEB SA WiMAX: Gondwana Communications provided MWEB SA with a 2.5 GHz TDD Alvarion
WiMAX solution, enabling it to implement a significant trial network in several
centres, offering broadband wireless data services.

Private Network: with a turnkey solution to create a private network
connecting the hospital to surrounding doctors, thereby
allowing access to online radiology information and other
services. An Alvarion BA-VL PTMP system was used. This
is a good example of using unlicensed band equipment in
a vertical market application.
The project was inclusive of the following
components:
• Site and EME surveys
• Base station installations
• AlvariCRAFT NMS
• CPE installations
Cell C Unlicensed Gondwana Communications supplied Cell C with
Band PTP hundreds of Radwin PTP links in order to build temporary
Backhaul: and redundant backhaul transmission links for their rural
and urban GSM base station network.
This is a good example of where
unlicensed band products can be
successfully deployed in rural and urban
environments to deliver carrier class
services.
