EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Introduction: This study reports the results of a sexual health survey conducted at a Gay Pride
event by F.A.C.E.S. The results will be presented in a report to F.A.C.E.S funders and staff. This
report will be used to show F.A.C.E.S. staff which area of sexual health education they should
focus their resources on.
Methods: The data were collected from a paper survey of individuals that visited the FACES
booth at the Gay Pride event in July 2015. From the target population of 1,500 Gay Pride
attendees, 50 surveys were distributed, and 20 (.01%) responses were collected.
Findings:
1. 75% of respondents said they “sometimes” or “never” used a condom, or other barrier
method, during sexual intercourse. (n=16)
2. 67% of respondents reported “yes” when asked if they have been tested for HIV in the last 12
months. (n=18)
3. 53% of respondents had unprotected sex in a 3-week period. (n=17)
4. 82% of respondents reported that they never had sex drunk or high. (n=17)
5. When asked if they had one partner, or multiple in the past three months, 82% of respondents
said they had “one, monogamous partner”. (n=17)
6. 85% of respondents answered “yes” when asked if they thought you could contract
HIV/AIDS while on a birth control pill. (n=20)

METHODS
How Data Were Collected
Instrument Design: Survey was designed by the F.A.C.E.S staff.
Data Collection Method: The respondents were handed paper surveys when they approached
the F.A.C.E.S booth during the Gay Pride Event. They were offered gift cards as incentive to
complete the survey. Respondents had the duration of the event to submit the survey to the
F.A.C.E.S staff.
Target Population Sample: The target population consists of 1,500 Gay Pride attendees. Every
respondent that agreed to receiving a gift card was given a survey to complete. 50 surveys were
distributed (sampling frame), 20 responses (sample) were collected (.01%). Of those that
responded 45% were male and 55% were female.
Quality of Data
Representativeness: This survey is a convenience and cannot be used to represent the 1,500
attendees. There is no data on the target population to compare to the sample. Below is
demographic information on the gender of the sample population. The reader can use this
information to decide how representative the sample is.

Accuracy: Respondents may have been compelled to respond because they were given a gift-
card as incentive to complete the survey. Also, certain questions did not have consistent scales
and may not provide accurate information. For example, question four asks respondents “How
often do you have sexual intercourse while ‘drunk or high’” which was not specified by the level
of intoxication. Therefore, this question may have been interpreted differently by different
respondents. There were respondents that reported not being sexually active, which cause some
questions to seem unrealistic. For example, “Do you have sex drunk or high” which implies
having been sexually active and does not relate to respondents that have not had sex.
