Common Mistakes about Science

Summary
●
I believe in Science
●
We are bio-chemical algorithms
●
New frontiers: machines will defeat humans
●
Control
3
Conclusions: For Those Who Prefer To
Sleep
●
Nowdays, power targets human being – love, fear, desires,
friendship - as an algorithm to exploit.
●
Never trust (power): Use your own mind!
●
If personality is an algorithm we are an illusion, and also
what I am saying is an illusion.
●
Human being is alwasy more then any models of her/him.
●
At end, intelligence comes from intelligence (ex nihilo nihil)
●
Human life is like the music (personality) a pianist(self)
plays on the piano (matter): the pianist can exist without
the piano?
4
“I believe in Science”
It’s as to say: “I believe in myself, and my power
of my brain interconnected to other brains”
Science is not an external entity: It depends on
human reasoning.
We use science as a method discuss facts and
build models.

“I believe in Science”
One day, Science will solve everything: maybe,
The same has been said many times in history...
Solve what?
7
We Are Biochemical Algorithms
So far, intelligence was assigned to organic
beings.
Nuroscientist say that intelligence (and also
personality) can be modeled.
Thath is, we are bio-algorithms.
Therefore, technologists are thinking that
intelligence can arise also from inorganic
beings.
8
We Are Biochemical Algorithms
Spirit !=
intelligence + consiousness
intelligence consciousness
Since we can split and model
human brains, we can model
Mechanicist view ( theory of personality )
facts
behaviours
Experential self
Classical view (Aristotele)
Teller self

New frontiers: AI
But what is AI?
Basically, by mimic the human intelligence (neuron, logic, instinct), produce algorithms
which can solve problems like human do, or better.
Basically, these algorithms are not programs, but interconnections of functions.
They do 1 thing: optimize some function f.
The interesting thing is that they can do optimize everything!
Optimize f: find the lowest point
10
New frontiers: Deep Learning
Optimize
f
Size of

Price of

Predict price

Optimization concerns:
- writing the function (goal)
- discovering (learns) the
weights a,b,c
inspired by human neuron
11
New frontiers: Deep Learning
12
New frontiers: AI
●
“intelligence” is used in the wrong way.
Intelligence cannot be artificial, only shared.
●
They use the word intelligence by pointing to
its “mechanical” aspect, but at the end the
algorithms are just predictions or
classifications.
●
“learning” means discover the weights...
●
...or create model of connections.
●
intelligence comes from a previous intelligence
of higher grade!
13
New frontiers: AI
Anyway, if you know how human being “works”
you can rule her/him.
14
New frontiers: AI
In fact, AI is present now in real world
Facebook (FREE)
Twitter (FREE)

WHERE IS THE PROFIT?

15
New frontiers: AI
THE PROFIT/PRODUCT IS YOU!
We know the they track us:
- Google reads our emails
- Facebook knows our connections and our
history...
- LINE and Skype knows our discussions
Why we let them do it?
Because the benefits we receive outperforms
fears.
One of the benefits is our feeling to be
important: “other will look at me!”
Many many companies trust more AI algorithms than humans because these
algorithms are purely intelligent.

A new Religion: Data
Everything is Data
Also humans are source of Data
Happines means having control of Data
... or trust whatever can understand our Data
AI algorithms can store your Data forever: why not trust them?
from movie, Her(2013)
