We are at the stage in which we are having to choose what song we will use for our music video. We narrowed our choices down to 4 songs, and this presentation covers positives and negatives for each song.
1. Commercial Radio review- Retro Radio
Personally I believe our show ran quite smoothly with very few errors and major technical
mistakes. Whilst it was not of professional standards it was not completely amateur.
From a personal prospective I was a lot more confident during the running of this show
compared to our previous recording of ‘The All American Rock Show.’ Since the show was
not scripted it allowed us to sound more casual and natural; there were no obvious
moments of dead air and as presenters we were comfortable with each other and quite
confident in ourselves, which helped the show in not sounding fake. General chat between
us flowed a lot more easily than our previous show.
We chose to take a specialist route and play 80’s music- whilst we had not taken a particular
demographic into account; it was aimed at anyone over the age of 16 with an interest in this
style of music. General chat involved banter and opinions that related to the songs being
played which in my opinion was suitable for the intended target audience. Personally I
believe it may be quite obvious that we don’t have an understanding for this genre of music
since we made no obvious facts or gave opinions on the tracks or artists, however we
showed ‘enthusiasm’ for it. Whilst the show wasn’t scripted my partner at times sounded a
lot less ‘fake’ than I and is able to ‘relate’ more easily with an audience.
When listening back on the recording, it’s obvious that at times we forgot to turn on both
microphones making it difficult to hear what I was saying, particularly since you could hear
my partner a lot more clearly. At certain points there was a few seconds of dead air, more
noticeably at 51 minutes- this was due to the fact we were not fast enough in operating the
equipment rather than having nothing to say. Transitioning between songs and general chat
overall though I believe was quite smooth with limited errors and technicalities.
During certain times of the show the music was transitioned in or out whilst one of us was
still talking meaning we were cut off, this is most noticeable just before ‘happy birthday- by
Stevie Wonder’ is played. Certain songs have very long intros and we made the mistake of
letting them play right through with neither of us talking over the top making it feel a lot
longer than it actually was. This is something I would definitely change for our next show to
help us in improving along with making sure we don’t transition songs in and out whilst
we’re still talking.
Feedback from listeners was positive- they were easily able to listen to the show and feel
involved.
