Calum Hood is the bass guitarist and backing vocalist for the pop-punk band 5 Seconds of Summer (5SOS). He met band members Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford, and Ashton Irwin while attending high school in Sydney, Australia. They began posting cover songs on YouTube which gained popularity. One Direction's Louis Tomlinson tweeted in their support which increased their fan base. 5SOS was then asked to join One Direction on their worldwide tour which launched their career.

born on 25th of January,
1996 in Sydney, Australia. He is a proud
son of Joy and David Hood along with
his sister Mali-Koa who is also a singer.
She was one of the participants of the
popular show ‘The Voice’. He is half Kiwi
and half Scottish. As a musician, Calum
worked his way to fame with the help of
social media. Composing music along
with Luke Hemmings, Michael Clifford
and Ashton Irwin, he landed his band
in the top 20 rankings on the Billboard.
He is also the songwriter of the group,
and has composed most of the songs;
he encourages his band members to
do the same. Calum, Michael and Luke
attended the same school. Since they
were passionate about music and played
the guitar, they often used to hangout,
creating cover versions of famous songs.
While studying at Norwest Christian Col-
lege he met his band members Ashton
Irwin, Michael Clifford, and Luke Hem-
mings for the first time and the band was
formed With Ashton on board their band
was complete. He dropped out from the
school to begin his music career.
Luke Hemmings created a YouTube
account, together the band began uploading cover
videos. Chris Brown’s ‘Next to You’ became their
most popular cover. It was during this feat that the
‘One Direction’ star, Louis Tomlinson tweeted that
he was a fan of their band and that people should
start following the young boys. When 5SOS
released their first single ‘Out Of My Limit’ in
November 2012, In 2012, 5 Seconds of Summer
released two EPs, Unplugged and Somewhere
New.. The following year, they received a further
boost after being asked to open
for Britain’s One Direction on
tour, and shortly thereafter
signed with Capitol Records
One Direction’s Niall Horan
tweeted the link to the video
clip. This brought them global
recognition, and soon Sony ‘ATV
Music Publishing’ signed them
on. On 14 February 2013, it was
announced that 5 Seconds of
Summer would support One Di-
rection on their worldwide Take
Me Home Tour. It was around
this time when the band began
to gain popularity and become
more well-known. On 21 No-
vember 2013, the band an-
nounced that they had signed to
Capitol Records. On 5 February
2014, 5 Seconds of Summer list-
ed their debut single ‘She Looks
So Perfect’, with Calum writing
the lyrics for them.

Calum is the backbone of the band, but when he
isn’t shooting or recording he loves playing foot-
ball. He has quite a few tattoos on his body, the
most special of them all is the “MMXII” tattoo that
he has on the side of his chest, a commendation
of the year their band took off. He takes inspira-
tion from the 90’s bands such as ‘Boys like Girls’,
‘Green Day’ and ‘All Time Low’. Known to have
the “best body” by his fellow group members.He
often uploads pictures on ‘Instagram’ where he
has a massive 5.3 million followers; on ‘Twitter’ he
has more than 7.2 million fans. 5SOS also have a
collaborative YouTube channel named after their
band,
As a student, Calum was bright. He
attended Norwest Christian College, and
took keen interest in sports, especially
football. However, when his music career
took off, he declined a national football
tournament and dropped out of school so
he could render more time to his band.

He is athletic, and maintains a strict re-
gime. He is also very hardworking and pushes the
group to go beyond their limits. This Aussie-Kiwi
has a gigantic female fan following, however he is
shy and doesn’t brag about it. He appears to be
a family man spending most of his vacations with
his family. Sharing a great rapport with his band
members, he is always in praise of their talent.
In 2012, Calum went to Brazil because he was
picked to represent Australia for football but he
gave up that opportunity just so he could pursue
his music career
It was announced that 5 Seconds of Summer
will once again join One Direction on the road,
supporting them on their 2014 Where We Are
Tour in the US, Canada, UK and Europe. On
9 April 2014, the ‘She Looks So Perfect EP’
debuted at number 2 on the Billboard 200. In
June 2014, their first album called ‘5 Seconds
of Summer’ was released.
In 2014,She Looks So Perfect, and their
debut album, 5 Seconds of Summer, followed
soon afterward. It promptly hit number one
in the charts of more than a dozen countries
around the globe. In late 2014, the band
wrapped up a world tour and released the live
concert album LIVESOS, which featured a
cover of the Romantics’ 1980 hit “What I Like
About You.” Following a break, they traveled to
Los Angeles to work with producer John Feld-
mann who’d previously helmed most of the
group’s debut album.
The song topped the music charts in Austra-
lia, New Zealand and Sweden. Their self-titled
album came out the same year, and it became
a huge hit and won the band an award from
UK-based ‘Kerrang’, a rock magazine. The
band organized its own tour in 2015, and were
overwhelmed by the response they received
from fans. Calum is known to be the most
charming member of the band. He is acknowl-
edged as the “sweetest vocalist of 5SOS with
boy-next-door looks”. He is athletic, and main-
tains a strict regime. He is also very hardwork-
