Beyoncé met Kelly Rowland in 1990 while auditioning for an all-girl group. Originally named Girl's Tyme, they went through several name changes before settling on Destiny's Child. Their debut album in 1998 was a commercial success, selling over 1 million copies. However, two original members later attempted to split with their manager and sued the group, though they eventually settled. Destiny's Child went on to greater success with later albums and singles before announcing their breakup in 2005 to pursue solo careers, having established themselves as one of the best-selling female groups of all time.
