Beyoncé has had incredible success with record sales throughout her career both as a solo artist and as the lead singer of Destiny's Child. After three years, she surprised her fans by releasing a self-titled album ‘Beyonce’. It
was released exclusively online on iTunes. Despite no prior single, announcement, and
promotion, not to mention Targets refusal to put the CD on their shelves, the album
was a huge success. It went on to become the fastest-selling album in iTunes history
with an estimated 828,000 sold around the world in its first three days, including
617,000 in the United States.
In late 2014, rumors began swirling that Beyonce was readying a collaborative album
with her husband Jay-Z. While the rumors remained unconfirmed, she hinted at her
next solo album when she dropped in early 2016 her new single "Formation" and
revealed plan to go on the "Formation" tour.
Her next long play, titled “Lemonade”, finally arrived in April 2016. Similar to its
predecessor, the project was released as a surprise and features accompanying music
videos for all its cuts. It opened at No.1 on Billboard 200 with more than 630,000 units
sold. The record also caused quite a stir due to some references to Jay-Z’s infidelity.
She seemingly talks about being cheated on by her hubby on the track “sorry”.
Following the song’s release, reports emerged that Jay-Z’s mistress could either be
designer Rachael Roy or British singer Rita Ora. Both, however, have denied being
“Becky with the good hair”.
In February 2017, Beyonce announces that she is pregnant with twins on Instagram.
This set an Instagram record for the most liked picture ever. Beyonce gave birth to her
non-identical twins at 05:13m on June 13th 2017. They were named Rumi and Sir
Carter along with their older sister Blu Ivy.

Beyonce Giselle Knowles-Carter, born September 4th 1981, in Houston Texas. She
is a R&B artist who rose to fame as the lead singer of the amazing girl group
Destiny Childs which also featured Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams. As a child
Beyonce showed that she was born to perform as she won various school talent
shows and dance competitions from aged 7. She went to four different schools
which offered performing arts classes and she was a soloist for two years at her
church. She surprised her school authorities when she won a school talent show
when she was just seven by beating the other contestants who were well into
their teenage years. When Beyonce was younger, her and her friends put
together a group and they started performing in contests and so on. Her farther,
Mathew Knowles, realized that they had potential and decided to become their
manager. The group soon became famous after appearing on ‘Star Search’ the
largest talent show on national TV at the time.
In 1998 Destiny Childs released their self-titled debut. Their first single, “No, No,
No”, found a huge audience, quickly selling over one million copies and reaching
the top of the R&B charts. While not a smash hit, the album performed well
overall, selling enough to encourage the girls to return to the studio to record a
second album.

After nothing but success with the group which became one of the worlds best selling girl group of all time,
Beyonce embraced a career as a solo artist. Her solo career started with nothing but success with her debut
album ‘Dangerously in Love’ winning her five Grammy-awards and sold 11 million copies worldwide.
Her second solo album ‘Bday’ arrived in 2006. it amazingly sold more than 540,000 copies in the U.S. in its first
week in stores coming in at No. 1 on the billboard 200 and making it her highest selling first week as a solo
artist. One of the hit singles in the album was ‘déjà vu’ which marked her studio reunion with hubby Jay Z. That
year, she also starred in another movie called “Dreamgirls”, the Bill Condon-directed film adaptations of the
Broadway show of the same name.
Beyonce made a groundbreaking album in 2008 by introducing a so-called alter ego Sasha Fierce in a double-CD
album "I Am .... Sasha Fierce". Besides ruling the charts with her numerous addictive singles, she garnered a
total of eight Grammy Award nominations at the 52nd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony. She eventually
collected a record setting six wins, the most awards won in one night. The only other singer who was able to win
six awards in one night was Adele in 2012.

The fact that both the
words ‘dangerously’ and
‘love’ are in bold is like
Beyonce is trying to tell her
fans something. For
example it could be that
falling in love is a
dangerous game.
The glowing on Beyoncé's cheek
could imply that she is just as
worthy as a diamond or even better
than a 100 diamonds as she is
wearing many diamonds.
The use of colour is very basic
but Beyonce is an artist who
doesn’t need to have a lot of
things on her album to try and
sell her album. But the fact
that her album doesn’t use a
lot of colour shows us that a
photo of her self is enough to
make people want to by it.
Beyonce uses
the rule of
thirds on the
back of her
album to give
her photo
enough space
to be analyzed
by the
customer and
also so the
titles of the
songs have
enough space
before
overlapping on
her photo.

young girl
would by this
album to feel a
sense of
escapism and
pleasure as it is
songs about
mainly love.

6. Beyoncé's brand is so well-known
that her appearance is enough for
her fans to recognize her meaning
she doesn’t even need to put her
name on it.
The word ‘LEMONADE’
is in the center of the
picture making it the
main focal point as
you cant see
Beyoncé's face.
Beyoncé's more recent attitude on social
media is ‘less is more’ as she doesn’t post
that much. Here she could be applying
that same policy to her album as she is
not showing her face, her name is not on
the album and its quite a dark photo.
The fact that the font is in a basic
bold font shows the audience that
she doesn’t even need to try on
her album and people are still
going to buy it. So essentially she
is creating her self less work to do
because she knows it will be sold
anyway.
The two photos are trying to
show Beyonce lifting up her
head which could imply that she
is upset or worn out which
mirror the motivation behind
the album as Jay-Z cheated on

on the back cover and is wearing
a big fur coat could convey that
with or without a husband she is
still going to be wealthy and

her music videos which belong on the
album e.g. ‘if I were a boy’ and ‘Single
ladies’, therefore the theme runs smoothly
throughout the whole album including the
videos. Also, Beyonce may have done this
so her fans know when they see one of her
video which are grey, what album to buy.

exposure is really eye-catching. Also,

her makes her facial features really
stand out which makes her look more
beautiful.

single ‘Single Ladies’
video compliments
the album as a whole
as the iconography is
similar.
She has repackaged herself
completely differently from the
previous album, ‘B-Day’ and she
changes her image complete
when it comes to the more
recent albums like ‘4’ and
‘Lemonade’.

8. Acting
In 2001, Beyonce Knowles starred in the MTV adaptation of the opera “Carmen, a hip hopera”. She played a women
called Carmen Brown who is a wannabe actress who seduces men to get her way. Beyonce, at the time, would have been
an ideal actress for this role as her image was very sexualized and risqué and some would say that in her music videos she
would seduce men in the set and in the audience. In 2002, she played Foxxy Cleopatra in Austin Powers: Gold member.
Since then Beyonce has had roles in various films such as Dreamgirls and The Pink Panther. Dreamgirls came out on
Christmas day 2006 and is one of Beyoncé's major acting gigs in her career. Dreamgirls also received a number of
accolades, including three awards at the 64th Golden Globe Awards ceremony, including the Golden Globe Award for Best
Motion Picture – Musical or comedy and two Oscars at the 79th Academy Awards.
In 2009, Beyonce starred in a movie alongside Idris Elba called “Obsessed” which has grossed nearly $29 million in the
first three days of being released. The film shows you a fighting scene featuring Beyonce which was praised by the media
as it was done so well when its so out of character for our Queen B. The fight scene also won the award for Best Fight at
the 2010 MTV Movie Awards and Beyonce was nominated for the Teen Choice Awards Movie Rumble category but lost
to Twilight.
Beyonce also played ‘Lilly’ in ‘The Fighting Temptations’ in 2003. Beyonce also sings a lot in the movie including gospel
and classical music. This would have widened her audience as gospel and classical music did not really appeal to the
audience that she had at that moment in time.
She also used her acting role as a platform to release and market her own music. For example, in the movie ‘The Pink
Panther” she plays ‘Xania’ an international pop star whose football manager boyfriend is killed and she sings a lot in the
movie but she also sings her hit “check on it” which she was then nominated for three awards for the song.
Overall, Beyonce plays near enough the same character in most movies that she has starred in, a woman who wants to be
a singer or is already one, apart from the movie Obsessed. In the movie “Obsessed” she plays the role of a new mom who
becomes protective over her husband as one of his work colleagues become obsessed with him. Shockingly enough, she
doesn't’t even sing in the movie which is quite strange for Beyonce as she normally likes to market her music through
acting.
Although she does not star in the movie, Beyonce also does a voice over for the film “Epic” where she plays ‘Queen Tara’.
Beyonce has been acting for a period over ten years. She started acting in 2001 and hasn't made a movie since 2013 and
over this time she has also won a number of awards for her acting.

Beyonce is someone who lives by ‘less is more’ when it comes to her
social media accounts. Whilst being pregnant with twins, Beyonce
posted every moment from her pregnancy in the form of picture-perfect
social media posts and yet still manages to keep ever detail intensely
private. Before being pregnant with twins, Beyonce still used to hardly
caption her photos or even post tweets but she still manages to have
her fans refreshing their social medias for any updates. Beyonce is one
of the most famous celebrities on the planet who is incredibly wealthy
therefore she doesn't’t need any sort of aid or assistance from her social
media accounts to help her with her business or to remain in the
spotlight. Beyonce is at a stage in her career where she doesn't’t even
need to Market her albums no more because she has a audience waiting
to buy her music instantly. She has made such a huge musical output,
most likely it would not change even if she had zero social-media
presence.

11. Beyonce doesn’t really use Facebook or twitter but she does use her
Instagram account. She mainly uses her Facebook and Twitter for updates
about major occasions or to disseminate information. Rumors have it that
one Instagram post by Beyonce can earn her $1 million as she mainly
promotes artists and photographers as well as photos of her self. She
doesn’t really give out interviews either as she operates under a “let the
work speak for itself’ policy”. But this is what makes Beyonce such a
prestigious artist because she doesn’t need to seek for attention for her to
remain in the spotlight. She can afford to go months without a single
Instagram post as she know her comeback will be great and have her fans
in shock. Her power is derived from her lack of captions which send her
fans into a frenzy. Although not posting a lot on social media gives
Beyonce this significant platform of power, she also knows what she is
doing by leaving her fans wanting more.

in Russia, she earned 3x Platinum in the U.S as well. ‘B-day’ was nominated for 5
Grammy Awards at the 49th Annual ceremony including Best contempary . The album
sold 541,000 units in its first week of releases.
