My abstract for the eduWeb Conference 2012 was awfully ambitious. I thought I could cover all of these topics in a one hour session (which includes time for Q&A). So, instead I decided to crowdsource the presentation by putting up all of the topics we could talk about and the crowd picked the top three. We ended up touching on nearly everything in this deck at least a bit, but generally at a 50,000 foot view.

4. The agora
app company
Ooooh. Ahhhh.
A mobile app with our name on it?
We want one!
The idea for The Agora App Company came to me in the
car. I had just learned how to design mobile apps on the
BiznessApps platform, and I was asking myself, “Who has
money and could benefit from improved communication?”
Fraternities and sororities across the nation have been
paying premium rates for inadequate communication
systems for years. When I pitched the idea of a custom
mobile app to my own chapter, their reaction told me I was
onto something big.
In just six months, The Agora App spread across my own
campus and onto three others. Small businesses caught
wind, and even Koch Industries requested a demo.

6. strap ads Stay Strapped.
Strap Ads is the drunken brainchild of a friend of mine that
happened to translate when he explained it to me sober.
If there is one accessory college students have in common
on a Friday night, other than the beer in their hand, it’s the
neon wristband strapped to their arm. These wristbands
are taken for granted. Wristbands start a conversation
about where people went, what they did and who they
saw there. Strap Ads gives brands the opportunity to
be a part of that conversation.
Strap Ads provides free custom wristbands to a variety of
venues by selling ad space on them. They are like no other
wristband people have ever seen. As co-founder and
creative director, I helped establish the brand, build rela-
tionships with advertisers and design the product.

8. bear naked
I live Bear Naked.
Jim Avery’s Account Planning course is the most
competitive class one can take at the University of
Oklahoma. Groups worked all semester on a creative brief
to be pitched to a panel of judges for the opportunity to
present to the client at their agency of record.
My group was invited to Kansas City to share our
outstanding research, spot-on insights and uniquely creative
solutions to VML in a presentation we will never forget.

9. Objective:
To establish Bear Naked as the “Ungranola.”
Strategy:
To convince the daily runner, healthy mother
and nature lover to eat Bear Naked granola
instead of it’s competitors because it offers a
superior lifestyle.
Brand Insight:
Bear Naked is not only everything other granola
brands are, but also everything they are not. It’s
not just healthy, it represents a lifestyle people
yearn to be a part of.
Consumer Insight:
People eat granola with a purpose. To eat granola
is to make a committment with yourself to get
the most out of your day.
It’s the pretext of adventure.

10. pandoria
Attend a music festival today.
Bob Rickert, Creative Director at HMH in Portland, flies to
Norman, Oklahoma twice a year to help students build
their portfolios. His guidance led me to a fully-integrated,
cross-platform experience I call Pandoria.
The Pandoria Music Fesitval combines the music genome
project with online video of concerts from around the
world and across generations. Choose the headliner, and
Pandoria does the rest. The end result is a virtual music
festival created just for you. Watch it alone, with friends
at a party or at one of the stops on the national tour.
