Chandler Oaks Elementary School has implemented several green initiatives to reduce its environmental impact and be more sustainable, including using efficient heating/cooling systems, non-toxic cleaning supplies, local and sustainable building materials, bike racks and walkable design to reduce cars, a white roof and efficient lighting to reduce energy use, a rainwater collection system, and robust recycling programs.

2. This is making our school green because the heater or air conditioner will shutdown instead of staying on while no one is using it; it is conserving our electricity.

3. The cleaning supplies are not highly toxic. When they are highly toxic, it can trigger asthma and other illnesses.

10. The white roof at our school The reason we have a white roof is because it is usually hot in Texas. The white roof reflects the light. If we had a black roof, it would absorb more heat. This would make the air conditioner use more energy.

15. The water storage ponds are a great area for the schools rain to drain down into the pipes and go into the underground river and wells. The rain drains through the dirt into pipes to be reused.
