Rules, Rules, Rules: Proactively Automate Management of the Service Infrastru...Novell
This session is an introduction to building rules into service models. Rules enable you to manage the definitions of severity and priority and automated actions, such as notifications. These rules also enable you to proactively monitor and manage the service infrastructure in real time. The solution provides more than after-the-fact reporting on technology performance and availability; it provides a view into the current trajectory of service performance and into potential service breaches before they occur. This allows IT to apply the proper resources to the highest priority services as required.
The Novell solution also factors in multi-faceted rules and visualization. This allows you to prioritize performance against availability. An example of this would be raising awareness before an event that will affect performance while that service is still available. The Novell solution is a true "service" monitoring and management solution because of its ability to calendar business hours, and because use and demand are also factored in when calculating service awareness and breaches versus pure up/down availability. Finally, the session will discuss and demonstrate how these rules are configured; it will discuss best practices for configuring/defining, and the real-time multi-dimensional visualization of the service via the appropriate dashboards.
IT and Business Alignment - Mapping the Physical, Virtual and Business WorldsNovell
This session will cover integration to PlateSpin Recon for the virtualized environment, integration collecting the physical environment and business data integration into a single view aligning the virtual, physical and business world. This discussion will focus on the methods, mechanics and best practices of federating these data sources into a view, such as a configuration management database (CMDB) as an example, by which to take action. It is intended to cover the technical aspects of the integration capabilities to various database sources marrying application data to the infrastructure providing near real-time views of data from it's source versus solutions that extract, translate and load data into a common repository that now must be maintained. The Novell BSM solution accesses the data in near real-time from the trusted management source providing the most accurate, view of federated data turning it into actionable information.
Emulex OneConnect Universal Converged Network Adapter (UCNA) platform enables efficient, robust and high-performance connectivity for all business applications while protecting IT investment in existing LAN and SAN infrastructure.

Tools for developing and monitoring SQL in DB2 for z/OSSurekha Parekh
Building optimal applications against DB2 for z/OS is often difficult. As most of the real issues relate to maintenancence and changes in the surrounding parameters it’s necessary to define a methodology which enables performance monitoring as well as optimization in existing code.
By knowing more about how the SQL in your shop performs, a lot can be done to to anticipate future problems, such as identifying performance bottlenecks before they impact users and add to IT costs. By building a performance history table, where you monitor performance as time passes, and changes in the environment occur, it’s possible to be proactive, and optimize before the costs turns red.

Implementing the Future of PostgreSQL Clustering with TungstenCommand Prompt., Inc
Robert Hodges
Users have traditionally used database clusters to solve database availability and performance requirements. However, clustering requirements are changing as hardware improvements make performance concerns obsolete for many users. In this talk I will discuss how the Tungsten project uses master/slave replication, group communications, and rules processing to develop easy-to-manage database clusters that solve database availability, protect data, and address hardware utilization. Our implementation is based on existing PostgreSQL capabilities like Londiste and WAL shipping, which we eventually plan to replace with our own log-based replication. Come see the future of database clustering with Tungsten!

How AOL Advertising Uses NoSQL to Make Millions of Smart Targeting Decisions ...DATAVERSITY
Real-time content, offer and ad targeting decisions must happen quickly. When a user requests information from a web application, a processing clock starts, requiring a decision in as little as 40 msec. Delays in targeting decisions lead to delays in responding to the user. These delays can lead to user dissatisfaction and, ultimately, loss of audience and revenue.
This session describes how AOL Advertising uses Hadoop to create sophisticated user profiles and NoSQL database technology from Couchbase to access those profiles in real-time, with sub-millisecond latency. This architecture leaves the bulk of the processing time budget for improved content, offer and ad targeting and even real-time content customization.

Internet of Things = More Big Data: How Will Cloud Computing Evolve?Codero
Organizations already struggle with the simple collection of data resulting from the proliferation of IoT, lacking the right infrastructure to manage it. They can't only rely on the cloud to collect and utilize this data because many applications still require dedicated infrastructure for security, redundancy, performance, etc.
In his session at 17th Cloud Expo, Emil Sayegh, CEO of Codero Hosting, will discuss how in order to resolve the inherent issues, companies need to combine dedicated and cloud solutions through hybrid hosting - a sustainable solution for the data required to manage IoT devices/technology. There is no one-size-fits-all to the question of data collection and security, but hybrid is the only solution that seamlessly adapts to fit any and all.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).
