This is the final in our series of webinars, 'Journey Through the AWS Cloud'. This webinar discusses strategies to help you save money in the AWS Cloud.
From turning systems off at night, to implementing bidding strategies on the spot market, there are many ways in which you can manage costs in AWS. This webinar will dive into the differences between instance types, explain the intricacies of Reserved Instances, the spot market and architecting to reduce costs. It discusses how to combine on-demand pricing with spot pricing to perform cost effective big data analysis, and introduce customer examples to illustrate how AWS customers gain the most from AWS whilst at the same time managing their spend.
This document discusses reducing AWS costs through optimization techniques. It begins with an overview of how AWS pricing allows costs to be reduced over time through economies of scale. It then provides 10 specific techniques to lower AWS spending, such as choosing the most cost-effective instance types, using auto scaling, stopping unused instances, and leveraging reserved, spot, and storage pricing options. The presentation concludes by highlighting the benefits of AWS support services for cost optimization and design assistance.
This document discusses Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) and calculating the total cost of ownership (TCO) when comparing owning a datacenter versus using cloud services.
[1] PUE is a metric that measures datacenter efficiency, calculated as the total facility power divided by the IT equipment power. Lower PUE values indicate better efficiency, with best datacenters around 1.15-1.2.
[2] Calculating accurate TCO requires including all costs over the lifetime of owning/operating a datacenter, such as capital expenditures (server/infrastructure costs), operating expenditures (energy, staffing, maintenance), as well as non-cash costs like downtime and equipment failures.
Bernard Golden is the CEO of HyperStratus, a cloud consulting firm. He has over 20 years of experience in IT. In this document, he discusses calculating the total cost of ownership (TCO) for cloud vs traditional infrastructure options. He analyzes the TCO savings of 55-57% when moving an education application called Lessonopoly to the cloud compared to on-premise virtualization or hosting providers. Some unexpected lessons were that cloud scalability provides real benefits and it can be difficult for people to understand cloud benefits if their jobs depend on the existing infrastructure model. He provides additional resources on these topics.
HEVC/H.265 is a video compression standard that provides around 50% better compression over H.264/AVC for the same level of video quality. It was finalized in 2013 by the joint collaboration of MPEG and ITU-T. Key features of HEVC include support for higher resolutions like 4K and 8K, improved parallel processing abilities, increased coding efficiency through larger block sizes and an expanded set of prediction modes.

Oracle Compute Cloud Service vs. Amazon Web Services EC2 : A Hands-On ReviewRevelation Technologies
We have extensive experience provisioning and utilizing
Amazon Web Services (AWS) EC2 servers for our corporate
production servers. At the time of launching one of our new
products last year, it was our intent on leveraging the Oracle
Compute Cloud Service, which was not generally available at
the time. Now, we've finally migrated from AWS to Oracle
Compute Cloud and we will walk through, in a live demo, the

Cloud computing and Integration consists of hardware and software resources made available on the Internet as managed third-party services, in a pay-per-use model , offering scalability and close alignment to actual demand.
This document discusses using cloud computing to scale applications dynamically. It provides an example of a tax application that experiences spikes in usage. On-premises, scaling would require manually provisioning additional servers and resources, which is time-consuming and results in idle capacity. The cloud allows automatic scaling of web and application tiers through role instances that can be added or removed as needed. This provides a more cost-effective and dynamic approach to handling variable usage loads.
Cloud computing involves delivering computing services over the Internet. Instead of running programs locally, users access software and storage that resides on remote servers in the "cloud." The concept originated in the 1950s but Amazon launched the first major public cloud in 2006. Cloud computing has three main components - clients that access the cloud, distributed servers that host applications and data, and data centers that house these servers. There are different types of clients, deployment models for clouds, service models, and cloud computing enables scalability, reliability, and efficiency for applications accessed over the Internet like email, social media, and search engines.
