Three years ago Support Partners and Dalet modernised a multi-national, fast-turnaround New's infrastructure, moving large parts of it into the AWS cloud. We look back on the project to get an understanding of the key financial and operational benefits that a cloud based automated workflow brought them. We will also look forward, using project examples, to understand what new benefits Machine Learning is bringing to our customers and the media industry as a whole.
Infrastructure Automation on AWS using a Real-World Customer Example - Sessio...Amazon Web Services
This technical session focuses on a customer use case and how using the AWS Cloud together with automation has enabled them to standardise and automate their systems.
This talk will describe how this is achieved with two tools, Cloud formation and Puppet. Cloud formation is a declarative templating language that enables the deployment of environments in a standardised way. Combined with a configuration management tool like Puppet allows for the automation of ongoing software deployments and maintenance in a low overhead manner. Puppet is a Configuration Management tool that installs and configures software on instances. Taken together a complete system can be built from the ground up.
Live demonstrations will showcase these concepts.
Speaker: Sebastian Krueger, Director of Cloud Engineering, API Talent.
How to model Infrastructure as Code as part of CI / CD, incorporating it into your standard application development lifecycle, execute infrastructure changes in your CI/CD pipeline, and get additional benefits, such as reducing configuration errors and provisioning faster. All this leveraging IaC Tools on AWS like AWS CloudFormation, AWS SAM & AWS CDK
Canary Releases on Kubernetes w/ Spinnaker, Istio, and PrometheusKublr
In a microservices world, applications consist of dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of components. Manually deploying and verifying deployment quality in production is virtually impossible. Kubernetes, which natively supports rolling updates, enables blue-green application deployments with Spinnaker. However, gradual rollouts is a feature that doesn't come out-of-the-box but can be achieved by adding Istio and Prometheus to the equation.
During this meetup, Slava Koltovich, CEO of Kublr, and Oleg Atamanenko, Senior Software Architect, discussed canary release implementations on Kubernetes with Spinnaker, Istio, and Prometheus. They examined the role of each tool in the process and how they are all connected. During a demo, they demonstrated a successful and a failed canary release, and how these tools enable IT teams to properly roll out changes to their customer base without any downtime.
In this talk, we will introduce several methods of threat detection and remediation on AWS, including GuardDuty, Macie, WAF, Shield, Lambda, AWS Config, Systems Manager and Inspector. We will do a brief overview of each of these services, and then talk about how to put them all together, to have a comprehensive thread detection and remediation solution. We will also discuss how to use these services across multiple AWS accounts and regions, to cover the governance needs of enterprise AWS deployments.
A brief introduction to Amazon Virtual Private Cloud (VPC).
Amazon VPC is a very important service that provides a logically isolated area of the AWS cloud where you can launch AWS resources in a virtual network that you define.

Building API-Driven Microservices with Amazon API Gateway - AWS Online Tech T...Amazon Web Services
Learning Objectives:
- Learn patterns for building APIs for various backend technologies
- Learn how to secure your APIs
- Learn how to handle updates, versioning, and environments using Amazon API Gateway
Presentation from the developer track at I Love APIs London 2016 featuring Matt McClean, Amazon Web Services.
Developers have been jumping on the microservices bandwagon because of the obvious benefits of faster release cycles and innovation. However, microservices' downside is the increased server costs, operational costs, and performance costs. To reduce this complexity, Amazon Web Services created AWS Lambda - a compute platform that lets you build microservices with no provisioning and servers.
Matt McClean, Solution Architect from AWS, presents how to use AWS Lambda to build your microservices. He covers various architectural patterns and anti-patterns for using AWS Lambda.
Futures and Rx Observables: powerful abstractions for consuming web services ...Chris Richardson
A modular, polyglot architecture has many advantages but it also adds complexity since each incoming request typically fans out to multiple distributed services. For example, in an online store application the information on a product details page - description, price, recommendations, etc - comes from numerous services. To minimize response time and improve scalability, these services must be invoked concurrently. However, traditional concurrency mechanisms are low-level, painful to use and error-prone.
In this talk you will learn about some powerful yet easy to use abstractions for consuming web services asynchronously. We will compare the various implementations of futures that are available in Java, Scala and JavaScript. You will learn how to use reactive observables, which are asynchronous data streams, to access web services from both Java and JavaScript. We will describe how these mechanisms let you write asynchronous code in a very straightforward, declarative fashion.
