However, the Chinese government maintains a digital panopticon and censors terms like "June 4th" related to sensitive events. When a government uses violence, it loses legitimacy and must work to rebuild trust through non-violent means. Dissident artist Ai Weiwei has also brought attention to censorship issues in China.
