Motivational Dynamics in Health Behavior Change v2 - 2014Dustin DiTommaso
Despite the wealth of technology-assisted advances in healthcare, human behavior continues to be the cause of great variance in health-related outcomes. Our health and well-being are vigorously affected by lifestyle factors such as physical activity, diet, or smoking as well as self-care activities like medication adherence and condition management.
Recognizing these behavioral mediators of health outcomes suggests that we pay closer attention to patient experience and motivation. If we want to create the conditions under which people are most likely to initiate and sustain behaviors conducive to health and well-being, we need to better understand the dynamic nature of motivation and design experiences that support patient needs for autonomy, competence and relatedness.
Just as no change is possible without action, no action is possible without motivation and as you’ll find in this talk, patient needs satisfaction and their quality (not quantity) of motivation are critical to the success of any behavior change intervention.

New Research Reveal For Global Warming
New Research Reveals Global Warming
New research reveals global warming, much more so in the face of global warming than just the heat of the sun.
The following article is a complete Amy Feinstein opinion and does not reflect the views of Inquisitr.
A new study from the University of California at Irvine reveals an amazing new phenomenon that is contributing to global warming. According to a new study, there is more to human-induced global warming than just the heat of the sun.
Detailed research on how the recent tropical cyclone season could affect future global warming has been published, and it explains that it is not a matter of if, but a matter of when.
For decades, scientists have had to decide whether emissions of greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide (CO2), have been a major factor in climate change. All the while, they have come to realize that the answer is yes. As a result, almost every major scientific institution in the world has declared climate change an urgent need for humanity.
It is a matter of great responsibility and urgency, considering the potentially dangerous and dangerous effects climate change can have on people and the environment, especially for people living in extremely hot parts of the world. In some places daytime temperatures are estimated to rise by seven degrees Fahrenheit. In the United States alone, over half a million people die each year from heat-related illnesses.
This presents a serious problem, and one of the key issues is how to respond to climate change and a changed environment. How can people be provided with the necessary resources to prevent heat-related diseases and deaths?

The answer, according to a new study, comes in the form of melting glaciers in the Arctic and Antarctic regions, according to a new study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) by researchers at the University of California at Irvine. . In short, the study suggests that global warming will have a greater impact on global warming than previously thought, as glaciers and glaciers evaporate, warming the oceans, and increasing sea levels.
The report makes the following statement on the effect of melting ice in the Arctic and Antarctic:
"'It' s called an exciting problem with how to increase the temperature without freezing," said David Pollard, a climate scientist and geophysicist at UC Irvine.

How Integration of Systems Will Bring Concrete Benefits to the Earth and to M...Stephen Lee
Presentation made to the Hong Kong Bio- and Eco-Energy Industry Assocation, Dec 14, 2011. The world is at an uncertain divide, with the East on the rise and the West on the decline. Excesses of capitalism, and escalating costs of social benefits brought imbalances to the world, potentially pitching the young generation against the old. Will the vision of a green planet be shattered because it is unaffordable and too much of an economic burden on mankind? It is more imperative than ever that efforts to clean up the planet be based on the idea of integrating, automating and optimizing past systems which were operated in isolation from one another. New and concrete benefits will be turned up by innovative ways to explore synergistic relationships among proximate systems and to optimize their joint operation. An example can be found in bringing together systems of waste treatment, electricity production, and steam or heat production. However, real benefits must exceed real costs before the world will remain committed to the path of a green planet.
A presentation prepared for the Archdiocese of Chicago's Office of Human Dignity and Solidarity, June 6, 2018.
Event description: "Join the Office of Human Dignity and Solidarity on Wednesday, June 6 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. as we answer Pope Francis’ call to 'each person on this living planet' to care for our common home. Because everyone’s home is different, creating effective campaigns around this initiative can be challenging. During this seminary, Assistant Professor of Journalism Jill Hopke of DePaul University will share insights from the latest social science research on how to design communication strategies that connect climate change to daily life and tips for choosing engaging climate visuals. Participants will get ideas for how to tell new narratives about the human toll of our changing climate, as well as for building community resiliency and climate hope."
The Earth and the Greenhouse Effect The phenomenon on Ear.docxmehek4
The Earth and the Greenhouse Effect
The phenomenon on Earth known as “global warming” is thought
by many, but not all, to be the result of greenhouse gases added to
the Earth’s atmosphere due human activity. A significant number
of scientists also believe that global warming has induced changes
to the Earth’s climate. Again, not everyone agrees with that
assessment.
In the final group activity, your group is being asked to write a 5-7
page paper that summarizes your group’s opinions on global
warming.
Global Warming on Earth
There are no correct answers to the questions posed in this
assignment. In fact, there may even be disagreements among
group members about the proper responses. In this assignment,
therefore, we are only interested in intelligent, well-reasoned
arguments. All intelligent well-reasoned arguments can earn full
credit, no matter what opinions are expressed. If there are
disagreements in the group, multiple submissions are acceptable,
each of which can earn full credit. However, if there are multiple
submissions, group members need to identify with the submission
they support.

The Debate:
As the Phet simulation shows, the Earth’s global surface
temperature has risen by about a degree Celsius as the CO2
concentration increases by approximately 33%. There are many
questions associated with this observed fact, which as we have
seen, the models can predict. Among these: Is human activity
responsible for this temperature rise through the emission of
Greenhouse gases or is the temperature rise a natural phenomenon?
Without change, will human activity in the 21st century force the
Earth’s global temperature even higher? One of the very important
questions in this debate concern economics. Do restrictions on
Greenhouse gases lead to impacts on the U.S. or World economies
that stunt economic growth in ways that lead to negative outcomes
for First World or Third World countries?
These are all important questions for which there is considerable
disagreement about the answers.
Scott Pruitt, the current Administrator of the Environmental
Protection Agency said in an interview: "I think that measuring
with precision human activity on the climate is something very
challenging to do and there's tremendous disagreement about the
degree of impact. So no, I would not agree that [human activity] is
a primary contributor to the global warming that we see." Senator
James Inhofe, Chair of the Senate Environment Committee, has
famously offered his opinion that "manmade global warming is the
greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people."
On the other hand, Keith Seitter, the executive director of the
American Meteorological Society wrote in response: “In reality,

BUILDING HOPE
Positive Psychology, a new branch of psychology focused on the empirical study of such things as positive emotions, strengths-based character, and healthy institutions. This emerging field offers guidance on how to feel more satisfied and engaged with life, regardless of one’s circumstances. Nineteen different scientifically-validated questionnaires on everything from love, compassion, grit and gratitude are building a robust body of data about what makes people happy and resilient.
What is hope? Hope is:
• a belief in a positive outcome related to events and circumstances in one's life
• A feeling that what you want is achievable and that events will turn out for the best.
Happiness, on the other hand, is a state of mind or feeling characterized by contentment, love, satisfaction, pleasure, or joy. Hope is about the future and happiness is about the present. You could say that people aspire to want hope and have happiness. To put it another way, hope is a means to having happiness.

TED External Home Defibrillator for Home Consumer innovation Taly Weiss
Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA)-ventricular fibrillation (VF)- kills 350000 people in the US alone, each year, about 3 million worldwide, at the prime-time of their life, mostly witnessed and at home /office.
Defibrillation procedure must be performed as soon as possible: survival decreases by 10% for every minute of delay-therefore ambulance help at home-too late! At present, only very few of SCA victims at home survive and many- in coma, in nursing homes.
TED is a home consumer solution that is much more affordable and reliable.
The novelty in our defibrillator device is based on a computerized modification of the alternating current, from the mains , existing in every home, to the FDA-approved biphasic defibrillatory wave .

What it takes to be a digital woman: Review by TrendsSpottingTaly Weiss
This presentation was presented at Microsoft's Women Think Next conference. I reviewed the current state of women in the business world, and focused on digital women. I used research done by Harvard Business Review to show the age breakdown where women leave technology professions and simply break out from the industry.
My presentation ends with practical tips: how women working in IT companies can use the Social Media to professionally lead and influence.
I have described that as a "work around" option. Companies success in Social Media relies on the professional team members sharing their insights and works. I believe that women can find that stage as a source for learning, improving and leading. .

The authors explained that while machine translation (MT) previously relied heavily on linguists, the landscape has shifted. “Linguistics is no longer front and center in the way we build NLP systems,” they said. With the emergence of LLMs, which can generate fluent text without the need for specialized modules to handle grammar or semantic coherence, the need for linguistic expertise in NLP is being questioned.
