How will you compare
the number of fruits to
vegetables?
Answer: We can
compare the number of
fruits to vegetables by
separating them and
counting the number of
fruits and vegetables.
For you to understand more, we will visualize sets of
ratios.
In visualizing ratios of two quantities, you need
to know that a “part” is a piece of something or
one thing in a particular group, and that a “whole”
represents all the combined pieces of something or
all the items belonging to a particular group. You
can represent a ratio in three forms, using the
word "is to", using a colon form “:" and in fraction
form.
Example: What is the ratio of apples to bananas?
Answer: 3 is to 2
or 3:2 or 3/2
What is the ratio of Repolyo to Sayote?
Answer: 2 is to
3 or 2:3 or 2/3
Ok, we mentioned the vegetable
Repolyo, what is the English term of
Repolyo?
Answer: Cabbage
Who wants to Spell CABBAGE?
C.A.B.B.A.G.E
Note: Show them the set of Notebooks and Pencils. (Real Object)
What is the ratio of notebooks to pencils?
Answer: 4 is to 6 or 4:6 or 4/6
In giving the ration of visualized sets of objects, we can
interchange it.
Example:
What is the ratio of
pencils to notebooks?
Answer: 6 is to 4 or 6:4
or 6/4
What is the ratio of
the total number of
objects (notebooks
and pencils) to
pencils?
Answer: 10 is to 6
or 10:6
What is the ratio of
tables to chairs?
(Let’s count the
number of tables
and chairs.)
Answer: 3 is to 6
How do we count?
Answer: We count by starting at number 1,
next is number two and so on….
What is the ratio of
boys to girls?
Answer: 4 is to 4
Now, let’s try to illustrate/visualize the ratio of
sets of objects.
Example:
3 Squares to 4 circles
Note: Call any learner to illustrate the ratio of the sets of
objects below. Paste the cut-outs on the board-others
may illustrate/draw using their notebook.
1 rectangle to 3 triangles
6 apples to 3 bananas
In your own dialect, what do you call
the banana?
For Ilocano, it is called Saba
For Tagalog, it is called as Saging
