PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORKS FOR CARDIAC ARRHYTHMIA C...IAEME Publication
In this paper an effective and most reliable method for appropriate classification of cardiac arrhythmia using automatic Artificial Neural Network (ANN) has been proposed. The results are encouraging and are found to have produced a very confident and efficient arrhythmia classification, which is easily applicable in diagnostic decision support system. The authors have employed 3 neural network classifiers to classify three types of beats of ECG signal, namely Normal (N), and two abnormal beats Right Bundle Branch Block (RBBB) and Premature Ventricular Contraction (PVC). The classifiers used in this paper are K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Naive Bayes Classifier (NBC) and Multi-Class Support Vector Machine (MSVM). The performance of the classifiers is evaluated using 5 parametric measures namely Sensitivity (Se), Specificity (Sp), Precision (Pr), Bit Error Rate (BER) and Accuracy (A). Hence MSVM classifier using Crammers method is very effective for proper ECG beat classification.

The electrocardiograph (ECG) contains cardiac features unique to each individual. By analyzing ECG, it should therefore be possible not only to detect the rate and consistency of heartbeats but to also extract other signal features in order to identify ECG records belonging to individual subjects. In this paper, a new approach for automatic analysis of single lead ECG for human recognition is proposed and evaluated. Eighteen temporal, amplitude, width and autoregressive (AR) model parameters are extracted from each ECG beat and classified in order to identify each individual. Proposed system uses pre-processing stage to decrease the effects of noise and other unwanted artifacts usually present in raw ECG data. Following pre-processing steps, ECG stream is partitioned into separate windows where each window includes single beat of ECG signal. Window estimation is based on the localization of the R peaks in the ECG stream that detected by Filter bank method for QRS complex detection. ECG features – temporal, amplitude and AR coefficients are then extracted and used as an input to K-nn and SVM classification algorithms in order to identify the individual subjects and beats. Signal pre-processing techniques, applied feature extraction methods and some intermediate and final classification results are presented in this paper.

In this project, we put forward a new automated quality aware ECG beat classification method for effectual diagnosis of ECG arrhythmias under unsubstantiated health concern environments. The suggested method contains three foremost junctures i ECG signal quality assessment ECG SQA based whether it is “acceptable†or “unacceptable†based on our preceding adapted complete ensemble empirical mode decomposition CEEMD and temporal features, ii reconstruction of ECG signal and R peak detection iii the ECG beat classification as well as the ECG beat extraction, beat alignment and Random forest RF based beat classification. The accuracy and robustness of the anticipated method is evaluated by means of different normal and abnormal ECG signals taken from the standard MIT BIH arrhythmia database. The suggested ECG beat extraction approach can recover the categorization accuracy by protecting the QRS complex portion and background noises is suppressed under an acceptable level of noise . The quality aware ECG beat classification techniques attains higher kappa values for the classification accuracies which can be reliable as evaluated to the heartbeat classification methods without the ECG quality assessment process. Training feedforward neural network using genetic algorithm to diagnose left ...TELKOMNIKA JOURNAL
In this research work, a new technique was proposed for the diagnosis of left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) from the ECG signal. The advanced imaging techniques can be used to diagnose left ventricular hypertrophy, but it leads to time-consuming and more expensive. This proposed technique overcomes thesef issues and may serve as an efficient tool to diagnose the LVH disease. The LVH causes changes in the patterns of ECG signal which includes R wave, QRS and T wave. This proposed approach identifies the changes in the pattern and extracts the temporal, spatial and statistical features of the ECG signal using windowed filtering technique. These features were applied to the conventional classifier and also to the neural network classifier with the modified weights using a genetic algorithm. The weights were modified by combining the crossover operators such as crossover arithmetic and crossover two-point operator. The results were compared with the various classifiers and the performance of the neural network with the modified weights using a genetic algorithm is outperformed. The accuracy of the weights modified feedforward neural network is 97.5%.
AR-based Method for ECG Classification and Patient RecognitionCSCJournals
The electrocardiogram (ECG) is the recording of heart activity obtained by measuring the signals from electrical contacts placed on the skin of the patient. By analyzing ECG, it is possible to detect the rate and consistency of heartbeats and identify possible irregularities in heart operation. This paper describes a set of techniques employed to pre-process the ECG signals and extract a set of features – autoregressive (AR) signal parameters used to characterise ECG signal. Extracted parameters are in this work used to accomplish two tasks. Firstly, AR features belonging to each ECG signal are classified in groups corresponding to three different heart conditions – normal, arrhythmia and ventricular arrhythmia. Obtained classification results indicate accurate, zero-error classification of patients according to their heart condition using the proposed method. Sets of extracted AR coefficients are then extended by adding an additional parameter – power of AR modelling error and a suitability of developed technique for individual patient identification is investigated. Individual feature sets for each group of detected QRS sections are classified in p clusters where p represents the number of patients in each group. Developed system has been tested using ECG signals available in MIT/BIH and Politecnico of Milano VCG/ECG database. Achieved recognition rates indicate that patient identification using ECG signals could be considered as a possible approach in some applications using the system developed in this work. Pre-processing stages, applied parameter extraction techniques and some intermediate and final classification results are described and presented in this paper.

This paper presents a novel method for QRS detection. To accomplish this task ECG signal was first filtered by using a third order Savitzky Golay filter. The filtered ECG signal was then preprocessed by a Wavelet based denoising in a real-time fashion to minimize the undefined noise level. R-peak was then detected from denoised signal after wavelet denoising. Windowing mechanism was also applied for finding any missing R-peaks. All the 48 records have been used to test the proposed method. During this testing, 99.97% sensitivity and 99.99% positive predictivity is obtained for QRS complex detection.
Utilizing ECG Waveform Features as New Biometric Authentication Method IJECEIAES
In this study, we are proposing a practical way for human identification based on a new biometric method. The new method is built on the use of the electrocardiogram (ECG) signal waveform features, which are produced from the process of acquiring electrical activities of the heart by using electrodes placed on the body. This process is launched over a period of time by using a recording device to read and store the ECG signal. On the contrary of other biometrics method like voice, fingerprint and iris scan, ECG signal cannot be copied or manipulated. The first operation for our system is to record a portion of 30 seconds out of whole ECG signal of a certain user in order to register it as user template in the system. Then the system will take 7 to 9 seconds in authenticating the template using template matching techniques. 44 subjects‟ raw ECG data were downloaded from Physionet website repository. We used a template matching technique for the authentication process and Linear SVM algorithm for the classification task. The accuracy rate was 97.2% for the authentication process and 98.6% for the classification task; with false acceptance rate 1.21%.

Abstract The electrocardiogram (ECG) is a well known method that can be used to measure Heart Rate Variability (HRV). This paper describes a procedure for processing electrocardiogram signals (ECG) to detect Heart Rate Variability (HRV). In recent years, there have been wide-ranging studies on Heart rate variability in ECG signals and analysis of Respiratory Sinus Arrhythmia (RSA). Normally the Heart rate variability is studied based on cycle length variability, heart period variability, RR variability and RR interval tachogram. The HRV provides information about the sympathetic-parasympathetic autonomic stability and consequently about the risk of unpredicted cardiac death. The heart beats in ECG signal are detected by detecting R-Peaks in ECG signals and used to determine useful information about the various cardiac abnormalities. The temporal locations of the R-wave are identified as the locations of the QRS complexes. In the presence of poor signal-to-noise ratios or pathological signals and wrong placement of ECG electrodes, the QRS complex may be missed or falsely detected and may lead to poor results in calculating heart beat in turn inter-beat intervals. We have studied the effects of number of common elements of QRS detection methods using MIT/BIH arrhythmia database and devised a simple and effective method. In this method, first the ECG signal is preprocessed using band-pass filter; later the Hilbert Transform is applied on filtered ECG signal to enhance the presence of QRS complexes, to detect R-Peaks by setting a threshold and finally the RR-intervals are calculated to determine Heart Rate. We have implemented our method using MATLAB on ECG signal which is obtained from MIT/BIH arrhythmia database. Our MATLAB implementation results in the detection of QRS complexes in ECG signal, locate the R-Peaks, computes Heart Rate (HR) by calculating RR-internal and plotting of HR signal to show the information about HRV. The traditional methods of diagnosis and classification present some inconveniences; seen that the precision of credit note one diagnosis exact depends on the cardiologist experience and the rate concentration. CLASSIFICATION OF ECG ARRHYTHMIAS USING /DISCRETE WAVELET TRANSFORM AND NEURA...IJCSEA Journal
Automatic recognition of cardiac arrhythmias is important for diagnosis of cardiac abnormalies. Several algorithms have been proposed to classify ECG arrhythmias; however, they cannot perform very well. Therefore, in this paper, an expert system for ElectroCardioGram (ECG) arrhythmia classification is proposed. Discrete wavelet transform is used for processing ECG recordings, and extracting some features, and the Multi-Layer Perceptron (MLP) neural network performs the classification task. Two types of arrhythmias can be detected by the proposed system. Some recordings of the MIT-BIH arrhythmias database have been used for training and testing our neural network based classifier. The simulation results show that the classification accuracy of our algorithm is 96.5% using 10 files including normal and two arrhythmias.
Electrocardiograph signal recognition using wavelet transform based on optim...IJECEIAES
Due to the growing number of cardiac patients, an automatic detection that detects various heart abnormalities has been developed to relieve and share physicians’ workload. Many of the depolarization of ventricles complex waves (QRS) detection algorithms with multiple properties have recently been presented; nevertheless, real-time implementations in low-cost systems remain a challenge due to limited hardware resources. The proposed algorithm finds a solution for the delay in processing by minimizing the input vector’s dimension and, as a result, the classifier’s complexity. In this paper, the wavelet transform is employed for feature extraction. The optimized neural network is used for classification with 8-classes for the electrocardiogram (ECG) signal this data is taken from two ECG signals (ST-T and MIT-BIH database). The wavelet transform coefficients are used for the artificial neural network’s training process and optimized by using the invasive weed optimization (IWO) algorithm. The suggested system has a sensitivity of over 70%, a specificity of over 94%, a positive predictive of over 65%, a negative predictive of more than 93%, and a classification accuracy of more than 80%. The performance of the classifier improves when the number of neurons in the hidden layer is increased.

ECG signals are used as the parameter for detection of Cardiac diseases and most of the data comes from PhysioDataNet and MIT-BIH database .The pre-processing of ECG signal is performed with help of Wavelet toolbox and also used for feature extraction of ECG signal. The complete project is implemented on MATLAB platform. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated on MIT–BIH Database. This paper presents the application of Probabilistic Neural Networks (PNN) for the classification and detection of Electrocardiogram (ECG).
Less computational approach to detect QRS complexes in ECG rhythmsCSITiaesprime
Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals are normally affected by artifacts that require manual assessment or use of other reference signals. Currently, Cardiographs are used to achieve basic necessary heart rate monitoring in real conditions. This work aims to study and identify main ECG features, QRS complexes, as one of the steps of a comprehensive ECG signal analysis. The proposed algorithm suggested an automatic recognition of QRS complexes in ECG rhythm. This method is designed based on several filter structure composes low pass, difference and summation filters. The filtered signal is fed to an adaptive threshold function to detect QRS complexes. The algorithm was validated and results were checked with experimental data based on sensitivity test.
Classifying electrocardiograph waveforms using trained deep learning neural n...IAESIJAI
Due to the rise in cardiac patients, an automated system that can identify different heart disorders has been created to lighten and distribute the duty of physicians. This research uses three different electrocardiograph (ECG) signals as indicators of a person's cardiac problems: Normal sinus rhythm (NSR), arrhythmia (ARR), and congestive heart failure (CHF). The continuous wavelet transform (CWT) provides the mechanism for classifying the 190 individual cases of ECG data into a 2-dimensional time-frequency representation. In this paper, the modified GoogLeNet is used for ECG data classification. Using a transfer learning approach and adjustments to parts of the output layers, ECG classification was conducted and the effectiveness of convolutional neural network (CNN) designs was tested. By comparing the results that the optimized neural network and GoogLeNet both had classification accuracy about of 80% and 100%, respectively. The GoogLeNet provide the best result in term of accuracy and training time.

Health Care Monitoring for the CVD Detection using Soft Computing Techniquesijfcstjournal
Now-a-days, many diseases are reducing the life time of the human. One of the major diseases is cardiovascular disease (CVD). It has become very common perhaps because of increasingly busy lifestyles. The rapid development of mobile communication technologies offers innumerable opportunities for the development of software and hardware applications for remote monitoring of cardiac disease. Compressed ECG is used for fast and efficient. Before performing the diagnosis, the compressed ECG must be decompressed for conventional ECG diagnosis algorithm. This decompression introduces unnecessary delay. In this paper, we introduce advanced data mining technique to detect cardiac abnormalities from the
compressed ECG using real time classification of CVD.When the patient affect cardiac disease, at the time hospital server can automatically inform to patient via email/SMS based on the real time CVD classification. Our proposed system initially uses the data mining technique, such as Genetic algorithm for attribute selection and Expectation Maximization based clustering. In this technique are used to identify the
disease from compressed ECG with the help of telecardiology diagnosis system

AUTOMATIC AND NON-INVASIVE CONTINUOUS GLUCOSE MONITORING IN PAEDIATRIC PATIENTShiij
Glycated haemoglobin does not allow you to highlight the effects that food choices, physical activity and
medications have on your glycaemic control day by day. The best way to monitor and keep track of the
immediate effects that these have on your blood sugar levels is self-monitoring, therefore the use of a
glucometer. Thanks to this tool you have the possibility to promptly receive information that helps you to
intervene in the most appropriate way, bringing or keeping your blood sugar levels as close as possible to
the reference values indicated by your doctor. Currently, blood glucose meters are used to measure and
control blood glucose. Diabetes is a fairly complex disease and it is important for those who suffer from it
to check their blood sugar (blood sugar) periodically throughout the day to prevent dangerous
complications. Many children newly diagnosed with diabetes and their families may face unique challenges
when dealing with the everyday management of diabetes, including treatments, adapting to dietary
changes, and the routine monitoring of blood glucose. Many questions may also arise when selecting a
blood glucose meter for paediatric patients. With current blood glucose meters, even with multiple daily
self-tests, high and low blood glucose levels may not be detected. Key factors that may be considered when
selecting a meter include accuracy of the meter; size of the meter; small sample size required for testing;
ease of use and easy-to-follow testing procedure; ability for alternate testing sites; quick testing time and
availability of results; ease of portability to allow testing at school and during leisure time; easyto- read
numbers on display; memory options; cost of meter and supplies. In this study we will show a new
automatic portable, non-invasive device and painless for the daily continuous monitoring (24 hours a day)
of blood glucose in paediatric patients.

The Proposed Guidelines for Cloud Computing Migration for South African Rural...hiij
It is now overdue for the hospitals in South African rural areas to implement cloud computing technologies in order to access patient data quickly in an emergency. Sometimes medical practitioners take time to attend patients due to the unavailability of kept records, leading to either a loss of time or the reassembling of processes to recapture lost patient files. However, there are few studies that highlight challenges faced by rural hospitals but they do not recommend strategies on how they can migrate to cloud computing. The purpose of this paper was to review recent papers about the critical factors that influence South African hospitals in adopting cloud computing. The contribution of the study is to lay out the importance of cloud computing in the health sectors and to suggest guidelines that South African rural hospitals can follow in order to successfully relocate into cloud computing. The existing literature revealed that Hospitals may enhance their record-keeping procedures and conduct business more effectively with the help of the cloud computing. In conclusion, if hospitals in South African rural areas is to fully benefit from cloud-based records management systems, challenges relating to data storage, privacy, security, and the digital divide must be overcome.
SUPPORTING LARGE-SCALE NUTRITION ANALYSIS BASED ON DIETARY SURVEY DATAhiij
While online survey systems facilitate the collection on copious records on diet, exercise and other healthrelated data, scientists and other public health experts typically must download data from those systems
into external tools for conducting statistical analyses. A more convenient approach would enable
researchers to perform analyses online, without the need to coordinate additional analysis tools. This
paper presents a system illustrating such an approach, using as a testbed the WAVE project, which is a 5-
year childhood obesity prevention initiative being conducted at Oregon State University by health scientists
utilizing a web application called WavePipe. This web application has enabled health scientists to create
studies, enrol subjects, collect physical activity data, and collect nutritional data through online surveys.
This paper presents a new sub-system that enables health scientists to analyse and visualize nutritional
profiles based on large quantities of 24-hour dietary recall records for sub-groups of study subjects over
any desired period of time. In addition, the sub-system enables scientists to enter new food information
from food composition databases to build a comprehensive food profile. Interview feedback from novice
health science researchers using the new functionality indicated that it provided a usable interface and
generated high receptiveness to using the system in practice.

GENDER DISPARITYOF TUBERCULOSISBURDENIN LOW-AND MIDDLE-INCOME COUNTRIES: A SY...hiij
The tuberculosis burden is higher in the population from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) and
differently affects gender. This review explored risk factors that determine gender disparity in tuberculosis
in LMICs. The research design was a systematic review. Three databases; Google Scholar, PubMed, and
HINARI provided 69 eligible papers. The synthesized data were coded, grouped and written in a descriptive
narrative style. HIV-TB co-infected women had a higher risk of mortality than TB-HIV-infected men. The
risk of Vitamin-D deficiency-induced tuberculosis was higher in women than in men. Lymph node TB,
breast TB, and cutaneous and abdominal TB occurred commonly in women whereas pleuritis, miliary TB,
meningeal TB, pleural TB and bone and joint TB were common in men. Employed men had higher contact
with tuberculosis patients and an increased chance of getting the disease. Migrant women were more likely
to develop tuberculosis than migrant men. The TB programmers and policymakers should balance the
different gaps of gender in TB-related activities and consider more appropriate approaches to be genderbased and have equal access to every TB-associated healthcare.

Search and Society: Reimagining Information Access for Radical FuturesBhaskar Mitra
The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.

As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

1. INTRODUCTION
Electrocardiogram (ECG) is used for diagnosing and monitoring the patient body. This analysis
system can bring the possibility to record the heart condition at early stage, which the problem is
being hard interpretation for non-trained people. Therefore the importance in developing the
system that make this interpretation easier for non-trained people and the system could detect the
disease with high levels of accuracy because many people who died cause of heart disease
showed no outward symptoms. This research is used by the other health care professionals
including physicians, nurses, therapists and technicians to bring together knowledge from many
technical sources to develop new procedures, or to solve clinical problems. The compression
algorithm is used to transmit the ECG signal to hospital server efficiently. The compression
minimizes the data amount during the compression. The Cardiac abnormalities can
be
identified fast and efficiently using ECG signals. In this paper, it is proposed to
perform real-time classification of Cardiac Vascular Disease (CVD).Here the features selection
for the ECG is done using feature extraction technique. The methods presented here are divided
into three pieces of work. Firstly, procedures to identify and annotate of ECG signal for Normal,
Bradycardia Arrhythmia, Tachycardia Arrhythmia and Ischemia characteristic. Secondly, a
strategy is presented for extracting the features vector for each sample of selected heart disease

There are many techniques introduced by the researches to overcome the heart problems in daytoday-life. The holter monitor system which records ECG signal continuously in ambulatory
condition for a sizable time and system transmit the recorded data to hospital when the recorded
period is completed. The feature extraction is done for classification of the heart disease like
Normal, Bradycardia Arrhythmia, Tachycardia Arrhythmia and Ischemia characteristics. The
compression technique is done for transmitting the signal from the health care services to hospital
server.
The ECG analysis technique required the feature extraction and classifier stage. Before feature
extraction the noise is removed from the ECG signal. For noise reduction many reduction
techniques are proposed by different researchers. An approach to Cardiac Arrhythmia Analysis
using Hidden Markov Models[18]. This technique classified by detecting and analyzing QRS
complex and determining the R-R intervals to determine the ventricular arrhythmias. The Hidden
Markov modeling addresses the problem of detecting low amplitude P waves in typical
ambulatory ECG recordings.
DWT-based feature extraction technique yields superior performance. ECG analysis using
wavelet transform method[21] can distinguish the between the QRS wave and P, T wave. This
technique also can distinguish noise, baseline drift and artifacts. So it can characterize the signal
information analysis very well and suitable to process time-varying biomedical signals.
The two morphological feature extraction methods[28] which are higher-order statistics and
hermite basis
functions. They used the support vector machines to compare the feature
extraction methods and classification method to evaluate the generalization performance. But the
use of higher order models need more computation cost and caused over fitting problem in
generalization performance. In term of accuracy, they found that their hierarchical
classification method showed better classification performance than the conventional
multiclass classification method with despite the loss in accuracy and sensitivities certain classes.
The hierarchical classification improved the mean values of sensitivity mean. It agreed that their
classification method can distinguish the multiclass heartbeats with the unbalanced data
distribution.
A new approach to feature extraction which is Karhunen Lo’eve Transform (KLT) which is an
attractive and powerful approach [27] to the feature-extraction and shape representation process.
It has the solution if the probability densities of population of pattern vectors of a problem
domain are unknown. The problem about this method is it is too sensitive to noisy pattern of ECG
signal.
In ECG training and classification analysis stages, some researchers have tried to maximize the
detection level of accuracy in many different ways such as digital signal analysis, Fuzzy Logic

methods, Artificial Neural Network, Genetic Algorithm, Support Vector Machine, SelfOrganizing Map, Bayesian and other method with each approach exhibiting its own advantage
and disadvantages.
The Neuro-Fuzzy approach[24] to the recognition and classification of the heart rhythms on the
basis of ECG waveforms. It uses the new approach of heart beat recognition. The resolution for
the problem of less sensitivity to the morphological variation of the ECG is brought here. It
combining two techniques which are characterization of the QRS complex of ECG by Hermite
polynomials and using the coefficients of Hermite kernel expansion as the features of the process
and the application of the modified neuro-fuzzy TSK network for ECG pattern recognition and
classification.

This paper provides the detection of cardiovascular disease in ECG signal with the help of health
care centers in rural areas. In figure 1 the signal is recorded from the patient’s body and it is
monitored by the physicians. The signal is then classified by the physicians by applying NeuroFuzzy classifier technique. This shows the result as whether the patient’s is in the normal, mild or
severe condition. If the patient’s condition is critical, then the signal is transmitted to the hospital
server by compressing the ECG signals using Huffman coding. For the severe cases physician
will provide a tablet that could maintain the heart beat as normal for 6 hours which would help
him to reach the Cardiac hospital. Then the patient can undergo for medical treatment by the
cardiologist. If the patient’s condition is mild then they are advised to contact the cardiologist.
3.1. DWT TECHNIQUE FOR FEATURE EXTRACTION
Feature extraction was conducted by applying wavelet techniques to patient data, thus providing
ECG characteristic point detection capabilities.
The input selection of feature extraction methods applied in this thesis has to select well to make
sure which components of a input gives the best representation of the given pattern of ECG
signals. The detail wavelet coefficients contains some amount of significant informations of the
signal, the detail wavelet coefficients of ECG signal of each subject were computed. The
procedures of DWT implementation is describe as follow in Figure 2:

2.2. FEATURES EXTRACTION PROCEDURES
Selection of appropriate wavelet and the number of decomposition level is very important in
DWT. The levels are chosen based on the parts of the signal that correlated with the frequencies
required for classification . The general wavelet decomposition of DWT procedure involves three
steps. The result of decomposed signal will shows the important details and approximation
coefficients, which represents the original signal. The basic procedure follows the steps described
below

The DWT wavelet types have been chosen in the features extraction and the ECG signals were
decomposed into time-frequency representations using single-level one-dimensional wavelet
decomposition. The wavelet names of Daubechies wavelet filters db4 have been choosing and the
number of decomposition levels was chosen to be 5. Result of decomposition, the ECG signals
were decomposed into the details coefficients D1-D5 and one final approximation coefficient,
A5.
The results of applying the Daubechies wavelet of order 4(db4) which is more suitable to detect
changes of ECG signal is evaluated.
2.3. COEFFICIENTS EXTRACTION
The computed details and approximation wavelet coefficients of the ECG signal were used as the
features vector representing the signals.
In this study, from the original intervals of ECG signal, five standard measures parameters are
used. A signal of 75 discrete data was selected as considered ECG signals data. For each ECG
signals, the detail wavelet coefficients of fourth level (75 coefficients) were computed. To reduce
the dimensionality of feature vectors, the set of the wavelet coefficients were used. The following
features are used to represent the time and frequency distribution of the ECG signals:
1. Energy of the wavelet of each ECG signals sample.
2. Maximum of the wavelet coefficients of each ECG signals sample.
3. Minimum of the wavelet coefficients of each ECG signals sample.
4. Mean of the wavelet coefficients of each ECG signals sample.
5. Standard deviation of the wavelet coefficients of the each ECG signal sample.
2.4. CLASSIFICATION USING NEURO FUZZY
Decision making of classification was performed in two stages: selection of coefficients
computing by DWT and the ANFIS classifiers. Four types of ECG beats (Normal, Tachycardia
Arrhythmia, Bradycardia Arrhythmia, and Ischemia) obtained from the PhysioBank databases
will be classified by ANFIS classifiers.
2.5. ANFIS IMPLEMENTATION IN CLASSIFYING HEART DISEASE
The classification was performed using the ANFIS in Fuzzy Logic Toolbox. ANFIS were trained
with the back propagation gradient decent method in combination with the least squares method.
The block of featured processed in ANFIS were shown in Figure 3.

2.6. SKELETON OF ECG DATA
The ECG signals are divided into two parts
• crucial part
• plain part
The QRS complex waves and P and T waves are the important part of the cardiology system to
identify the arrhythmia disease. The ECG signals are divided into smaller blocks and each block
is encoded as an independent entity. The block length is decided according to the sampling rate as

programmable constant between 101 and 200, funit is unit block size, and ttrunc is the
rounding-truncation function with 2n In this work, the unit block size is selected in 0.05 s,
which is the half duration of the QRS complex duration. It is a suitable period to detect the
change the ECG signal precisely. After block division, the QLV of the block is calculated. For
normal ECG signals, the QRS complex part can be regarded as a typical representative signal

2.7. LOSSLESS COMPRESSION: HUFFMAN CODING
The compression was performed when the patient was in the severe state and the patient needs
some medical treatment. In that case the patient ECG data is transferred to the doctor on the other
end by compressing the signal.
Algorithm for Huffman coding
1. Compute the probability of each data.
2. Sort the set of data in ASCENDING order.
3. Create a new node where the left child is the lowest in the sorted list and the right is the second
lowest in the sorted list.
4. Chop-off those two elements in the sorted list as they are now part of one node and add the
probabilities. The result is the probability for the new node.
5. Perform insertion sort on the list with the new node.
6. REPREAT STEPS 3,4,5 UNTIL you only have 1 node left.
4. ECG SIGNALS DATASET
The number of data samples that represent each feature for Class 1,Class 2, Class 3 and Class 4
are 20 subjects, 15 subjects, 20 subjects and 15 subjects respectively. The rule based was created
according the
expert knowledge using MATLAB rule base editor. Based on the three
membership function (small, medium, large) that being used in this project, the number of rule
based created by equation:
=c where; a is linguistic variables, b is number of input nodes, c is number of rules output.
It is used to generate the rules. There are 5 input nodes for ANFIS structure with 3 inputs of
membership functions that processed by 243 rules to identify the desired output of heart disease.
5. RESULT AND PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
The result and performance of feature extraction and classification was trained with the back
propagation gradient descent method in combination with the least squares method has been
made. The algorithm is composed of a two passes, such that forward pass and a backward pass.
•
•
The least squares method (forward pass) - to optimize the consequent parameters.
The gradient descent method (backward pass) - to adjust optimally the premise
parameters.

The MIT-BIH Arrhythmia Database is used to evaluate the performance [13]. The sampling rate
and the resolution are 360 samples/s and 12 bits, respectively. In addition, the Gaussian white
noise source is injected from −10 to 20 dB SNR for the noise stress test. The test vector is
produced by injection of the noise source [14] with MIT-BIH record 100 [13]. The performances
of compression coding are evaluated by the CR and the compression error rate of the percentage
root mean square difference (PRD). And the R-peak detection performance is evaluated by the
sensitivity (Se) and the positive productivity (+P).

6. CONCLUSION
This paper indicate that by using DWT and ANFIS, the classification of Normal, Bardycardia
Arrhythmia, Tachycardia Arrhythmia and Ischemia signals can be classified; therefore the
primary objective of this study is achieved. The simulation results show the class of heart disease
is well predicted using DWT and ANFIS system and the system working well since it achieve the
97.68% of classification accuracy rate. This result indicates that it has some potential and had
been found to be successful in heart disease detection. The proposed QLV delineate the ECG
signal, and it supports both the flows to achieve better performance with low computation
complexity. By applying the QLV, the overall CR improves while maintaining the small
compression error rate, and high-accuracy performance can achieve at the segmentation and the
R-peak detection stage. The performance is evaluated by using the MIT/BIH Arrhythmia
Database, and the noise robust test is also performed for the reliability of the algorithm.
