CLASS POLYCHEATE (1ST CLASS) • Polycheate (Poly;many cheate;hairs) • It is the largest class of annelids • Habitat: Exclusively marine e.g.,Nereis(sand worms) • Cephalization:Distinct head with prostomium and peristomiun and bear tentacles • Locomontary organ: Numerous bristle like setae on paired and unjointed lateral parapodia • Symmetry: bilateral symmetry
- 5. CONT: • Clitellum: absent • Segmentation:fixed number of segments but are undivided • Reproduction: Unisexual • Fertilization: external • Complete digestive system • Closed circulatory system • Well developed nervous system
- 7. CLASS OLIGOCHAETE(2ND CLASS) • Oligochaetes (Oligo:few cheates:hairs) • Habitat: Primarily freshwater(tubifex) or terrestrial(earthworm) • Cephalization:Head with eyes palps and tentacles absent • Only pseudocoelomate present • Locomontary organ: They have few setae and no parapodia
