This document provides an overview of a "Walking for Fitness" class. The objective is to help students maintain fitness through walking. The class will provide both online and in-person instruction to give flexibility. Students will perform initial fitness measurements and track their progress over the semester. Their challenge will be to walk 100 miles total. They will learn techniques like varying pace and breathing levels. A major component is weekly journaling of walk details and mileage progress, which is submitted online. Assigned walks and locations are suggested each week. Quizzes on safety and fitness are given initially in class, which also includes discussions, videos and walking technique practice.
