WALKING FOR FITNESS
The Objective of this class is to help you learn a variety of tips, facts, tools and
techniques that will help you to safely maintain a habit of fitness by with the
simple act of walking
This class has been designed to provide for maximum flexibility in your schedule for walking and
fitness activities. You will receive a combination of online and face to face instruction.
At the beginning of the semester you will perform a variety of basic fitness measurements including height,
measures throughout the semester to track your progress.
Your challenge will be to walk 100 miles over the course of the semester. You will learn to vary your pace and
breathing to change the working level of your walks.
Weekly Journaling is a major component of Walking for Fitness. You will journal each week and submit your
work in Blackboard. Your Journal will include the location of your “neighborhood” walk, duration, working
level or pace and any observations you wish to include. Using your journal you will summarize the total
number of miles you have walked toward your 100 mile goal. Your journals will be due the night before class
by 11:59 PM and cover the prior week of walking. Your Journal is private and will not be shared with other
class members.
Assigned walks will be included in the weekly assignment posted on Blackboard along with suggested locations to help
you vary your workout. Three quizzes will be included in the first few weeks of class covering material on safety rules
and fitness measures.
During class time we will discuss material presented on line, view videos, and practice walking technique. You are
required to attend class at room 100 at Aspen Center each week unless you receive notice of other arrangements.
Walk the walk and do your journal, you will do well in this class.
