The passage describes the Taj Mahal in India. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan as the final resting place for his wife Mumtaz Mahal, who died in 1631. Shah Jahan later was also buried there. The monument is set within large gardens on the south bank of the Yamuna River in Agra. It took over 20,000 workers 22 years to complete the Taj Mahal's construction at a cost of 40 million rupees.

3. Read the passage carefully and answer the questions
following it
The Taj Mahal, which is one of the wonders of the world, is
a monument. Emperor Shah Jahan and his wife Mamataj
Mahal married in 1612 and she was his inseparable
companion until her death i child birth in 1631. His grief led
him to design and construct this magnificent building for her
final resting place. Later, Shah Jahan also was buried there.
The monument is set within a large complex of gardens and
other buildings on the south bank of the river Jamuna,
outside the city of Agra. The whole complex is a rectangle
measuring, 1,900 feet by 1,000 feet. In the center of the
rectangle, there is a garden area of 1000 feet aside leaving
a rectangle area at each end. At the south, there is the
gateway and other duildings. At the north end, there is the
monument.

4. The Taj Mahal stands on a square marble base 312 feet per
side and 23 feet high. The tomb also is a square of 186 feet
per side with a weighty arch in each face, rising to a height
of 108 feet. At the top of the entire building, there is a large
onion- shaped dome. The top of the dome stands 243 feet
above ground level. At each corner of the base there stands
a three- storey minaret about 138 feet tall. The whole
monument is covered with pure white marble. The
construction of the Taj Mahal took 22 years, from 1632 to
1654. More than 20,000 workers worked daily to complete
the work. The cost of the construction was about 40 million
rupees.
