The lighting used in this magazine
article is high key lighting, as it is
staged and clinical, this shows how
it is a plain background as it is
quite a grungy rock magazine. It is
also high key lighting so the reader
can identify the rappers on the
front. It also creates an edgy feel to
the magazine.
The symbolism of the main image
is to show that rap as a genre, it
shows how all rap artists are
visible. The shot composition used
is that they are all positioned in a
pyramid style, showing that they
all have the same status. This is to
make them all seem dominant as
the people at the back are stood
up and the people at front are
crouching down. This can show the
target audience that rappers
collaborating together can make a
change.
They are all looking at the camera
no matter where they are
positioned. This can show how
they are trying to make reader feel
intimidated by how powerful they
are.
They are all placed in the center of
the frame, this can show how they
are all equally important in the
article of the magazine.
It is a use of a long low angle shot,
this makes the people in the image
seem more superior and dominant
to the reader.
The colour palette which creates a
house style used on the front of
the magazine are red, black and
white. This shows how red is a
colour of danger and black is a
colour of warning , this will excite
the reader and make them want to
read the magazine. The white is
used to contrast against these
colours to make them stand out
and look more bold.
Contents page
The first thing the readers eyes go
to is the main image, showing 50
Cent and Soulja Boy which are two
of the rappers on the front of the
magazine, They are the largest
item on the page which makes
them dominant. This also links to
the fact that their content page
number is the largest number
compared to the others.
From looking at this image, I have
decided that I will use a shot like
this in my magazine article when
doing additional research, I like the
way the artists are positioned and
the reader can see what they are
wearing.
Both of their eye lines are looking
at the camera with a medium low
angle shot used, this is to show
how the rap artists are the main
focus on this page, this can also
make the reader feel intimidated
by them.

Double Page Spread
The artist is looking directly at
the camera, this can show
how he feels as if he is going
to tell the reader everything
they want to know in this
interview. It makes the reader
feel as if it is exclusive to
them. His body language
looks quite relaxed which
makes the reader feel at ease
when reading the interview.
The lighting in this article, is low
key as it is quite hard to see but
the reader can still see the artists
face. The background lighting is
high key to make the words ‘NYC’
stand out, this can orientate the
reader to where this interview
took place. It has quite a grungy
atmosphere to the magazine.

How it can influence my
magazine
This magazine has influenced me
to make my magazine front cover
have a colour pallet with around 3
different colours included, and one
of these colours will be black.
I have decided that my contents
page will have a big image of the
artist(s) which will be interviewed
in my magazine article, as this can
help the reader see them in a
different pose and lighting and this
can make the reader feel relaxed
and at ease. I also like the fact that
the contents page isn’t called a
contents page, this makes the
magazine company unique and
different.
