Coal India Limited (CIL) is the largest coal producer in the world. It was established in 1975 by the Indian government taking over private coal mines. CIL has grown from producing 79 MT in 1975 to operating 81 mining areas across 8 states in India. It has 7 subsidiaries and 1 mine planning company and also owns a mining company in Mozambique. CIL manages over 200 establishments and training institutes across India. The current Chairman of CIL is Sutirtha Bhattacharya and it has 7 other directors overseeing different functions.
