CILIP Conference - x metadata evolution the final mile - Richard WallisCILIP
Bibliographic metadata forms have evolved over centuries, the last 50 years in machine readable formats. The library community appears to be evolving from records, towards describing real-world entities using an agreed form of linked data. Is that step a step far enough to satisfy the ever-present need to aid discovery? Discovery in the environment of the approaching twenty first century’s 3rd decade. Or do we need to include a move into the landscape of globally understood structured data and knowledge graphs? The millennial environment of answer engines, mobile/local search and voice assistants.

Large corporations have to master vast amounts of heterogeneous data in order to stay competitive. While existing approaches have attempted to consolidate and manage the data by forcing it into a single shared data model, data lakes recently emerged that instead provide a central storage point for holding all data sets in their original form.
In this talk, we present eccenca CorporateMemory, which extends the data lake paradigm with a semantic integration layer for managing diverse, but semantically enriched data. eccenca CorporateMemory builds an extensible knowledge graph that employs RDF vocabularies for transforming and linking multiple datasets in order to generate an integrated semantic understanding of the data.

looking at KBART: seven years later (since the publication
of the first set of recommendations up to today). The panel
will discuss the changes on the e-resources metadata
landscape, the benefits of KBART and the challenges of
its implementation. Today poor metadata in the electronic
resources supply chain is still a problem. The panel will
use practical examples to explain how metadata creation,
consumption and usage are marked by the constant
requirement of finding the balance between available

Well-being and impact have become very familiar terms in recent times. Since 2015 many public bodies in Wales have a duty under the Well-being of Future Generations (Wales) Act to carry out sustainable development. This is about improving the way that we can achieve our economic, social, environmental and cultural well-being. Dr Owain Rhys Roberts presents how this has been considered and applied at The National Library of Wales and gives participants the opportunity to reflect and consider how this can be applied to their own context.
Many of the stories and case studies shared at this conference highlight just how important the art of collaboration is to ensuring successful projects and initiatives. In this workshop, Mystery Beck explores the art of collaboration, addressing the key questions we need to consider in order to collaborate effectively.

As Europe's leading economic powerhouse and the fourth-largest hashtag#economy globally, Germany stands at the forefront of innovation and industrial might. Renowned for its precision engineering and high-tech sectors, Germany's economic structure is heavily supported by a robust service industry, accounting for approximately 68% of its GDP. This economic clout and strategic geopolitical stance position Germany as a focal point in the global cyber threat landscape.
In the face of escalating global tensions, particularly those emanating from geopolitical disputes with nations like hashtag#Russia and hashtag#China, hashtag#Germany has witnessed a significant uptick in targeted cyber operations. Our analysis indicates a marked increase in hashtag#cyberattack sophistication aimed at critical infrastructure and key industrial sectors. These attacks range from ransomware campaigns to hashtag#AdvancedPersistentThreats (hashtag#APTs), threatening national security and business integrity.
🔑 Key findings include:
🔍 Increased frequency and complexity of cyber threats.
🔍 Escalation of state-sponsored and criminally motivated cyber operations.
🔍 Active dark web exchanges of malicious tools and tactics.
Our comprehensive report delves into these challenges, using a blend of open-source and proprietary data collection techniques. By monitoring activity on critical networks and analyzing attack patterns, our team provides a detailed overview of the threats facing German entities.
This report aims to equip stakeholders across public and private sectors with the knowledge to enhance their defensive strategies, reduce exposure to cyber risks, and reinforce Germany's resilience against cyber threats.
