Renewed in Grace
In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…
The Book of Joshua is the sixth book in the Hebrew Bible and the Old Testament, and is the first book of the Deuteronomistic history, the story of Israel from the conquest of Canaan to the Babylonian exile.

“But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to offer so
willingly as this? For all things come from You, and of Your own we have given
You.” (1 Chronicles 29:14)
“All that you have and are belongs to God. Then will you not say from the
heart: ‘All things come of Thee, and of Thine own have we given Thee’? ‘Honor
the Lord with thy substance, and with the first fruits of all thine increase.’ Paul
thus exhorts his Corinthian brethren to Christian beneficence: ‘As ye abound in
everything, in faith, and utterance, and knowledge, and in all diligence, and in
your love to us, see that ye abound in this grace also.’ In his epistle to Timothy
he says: ‘Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high-minded,
nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all
things to enjoy; that they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to
distribute, willing to communicate; laying up in store for themselves a good
foundation
against the time to come, that they may lay hold on eternal life.’
Liberality is not so natural to us that we gain this virtue by accident. It
must be cultivated…This is too sacred a duty to be left to chance or to be
controlled by impulse or feeling. We should regularly reserve something for
God's cause, that He may not be robbed of the portion which He claims…If we
live so that we can have the blessing of God we shall have His prospering hand
with
us in our temporal affairs…” (Testimonies for the Church, pp. 271-272)
