Welcome to Calvary
Then he said to his servants, “The
wedding is ready, but those who
were invited were not worthy.
Therefore go into the highways,
and as many as you find, invite to
the wedding.”

Matthew 22:8-9
Eighteenth Sunday After Pentecost
Season of Thanks
During the season of Pentecost, Calvary will be giving thanks for its past;
its present; its future. We will be thanking groups and individuals and
most of all God for the blessings bestowed on Calvary Evangelical
Lutheran Church. We are calling this a Season of Thanks!
During this Season of Thanks each of us, daily, need to remember things
and people for which and whom we are thankful. Even on those days
when everything seems to be falling apart… we can be thankful that
God is there to catch us and protect us …. just like God always does!

FREE COMMUNITY MEAL
Calvary Lutheran Church
74 West Main Street
Chillicothe, OH 45601
A BIG thank you to everyone that helped with the last
community meal on September 22, 2014 and all those who
donated blue jeans and clothing. Many folks from around the
community attended and appreciated the clothing. There is
always a need for blue jeans so if you ever have any extras
please keep us in mind.
If you would like to volunteer to assist with our community meal or have a food item to
donate, you can contact Brenda Dardinger at 701-0404 or Karol Specht at 703-0087.
PASTOR’S OPEN HOUSE
On Sunday, October 19 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Pastor Janet
will be hosting an Open House at her home at 255
Independence Drive, Chillicothe. There will be hors
d’oeuvres, refreshments, and tours (if you like). Please
plan to drop in and visit.
Her home is located in Governor’s Square, off Western
Avenue next to Traditions. Because she has only two
parking spaces, please use them for those who need to
park close, or to drop off those who need or want it and
then park your car in the lot next to the mansion. It’s only
a short walk from there. Members and friends are all
invited to attend.

Video – Sound - Projector
If anyone is interested in helping with the sound board,
videoing the sermons or creating/running the projector
announcements please contact Steve Dardinger. There is
currently a very limited number of people who know how to
do these things and when they are not here it won’t get
done. We need some help!
Reminder – Don’t Forget
Your Name Tag
Not everyone remembers your name. We encourage
everyone to wear their name tags. It helps not only
our visitors, but all of us to put a name to a face.
There are cords to use as lanyards on top of the
mailboxes. Help yourself.
November 2nd, 2014 is All Saint’s Sunday. On this day we
remember our loved ones who have joined the Saints of
Light in the previous year. If you have a name you wish to
be listed, please submit the name in writing to the
Church Office (two mailboxes, in the office window or the
conference room), by email at:
calvarysec@horizonview.net, or call the office at 740-773-
1044. If no one is available, please leave a message.
Please submit your name no later than October 28th so it
can be added to the list. PLEASE INDICATE “ALL SAINT’S”
so the name is not confused with the normal prayer list.
Church Council Elections
Elections for council will be October 19. The terms of
Craig Solle, Jean Michelson, Janis Lane and Charlotte
Spahr are ending. Would you be interested in running
for council? Council meets the 3rd Tuesday of every
month at 7pm. If you think you would be interested
or want more information please contact Craig Solle,
Jim Segelhorst or Jean Michelson. They will be able to
answer any questions you might have. Please give
prayerful consideration to Sharing your God given
talents with Calvary.
Stewardship
Update as of September 22, 2014
About one half of the expected Estimated Giving Cards have been
returned to the church. If you have not returned yours, you still
have time to place it in the Sunday Offering or mail it to the
church. Those who have not returned their cards will be contacted
by a member of the church participating in the canvass. You can
be expected to be called during the month of October. If you need
an Estimated Giving Card, contact the Church office or a member
of the Stewardship Committee (Contact Ken Tomko at 740-775-
6778) and we will be glad to get one for you.
Thank you for your support of the Stewardship Program.
Ken Tomko (Stewardship Committee Member)

A HUGE Thank You to
everyone who helped with
and attended Oktoberfest.
Those who helped set up,
clean up, brought desserts,
prepared food, shared memorabilia, and who were
part of the entertainment, thank you! Janis did a
fantastic job as usual as Master of Ceremonies and
kept the entertainment and festivities rolling. It
was a wonderful evening of entertainment and
fellowship. Thanks to all!

SOCK IT AWAY FOR CALVARY!
Are you a saver? Do you put things away just in case you need
them? Ten years ago we ‘Socked It Away for Calvary.’ Decorated
socks were handed out. If you still have yours… and I know
some of you do!... please bring them to the church picnic on
September 7th … or to church that morning!. If you don’t have
one or can’t find the one you had…no worries…we will have
others for you. Beginning on September 7th we will once again
‘Sock it Away for Calvary.’ You are challenged to put your spare
change in the sock every day. The socks will be collected in
November when we dump all the change (paper money is
welcomed too) into a pot … making a ‘joyful noise’ to the Lord!!
This money will be used for debt reduction…just like it was 10
years ago!

Good news: not only will we have monthly events for
Calvary Kids; we will also have Sunday School for children
return on October 5 at 9:30 a.m. in a new format with
new teachers. On the first Sunday of each month, we
will have an intergenerational Sunday School event in the
sanctuary. All ages are welcome to attend; it will be led
by various leaders each month. On the other three (or
four) Sunday mornings, children fifth grade and younger
will gather in one class to be taught by two of our recent
confirmands, Nick Erslan and Breanna Murphy. Don’t
miss out on the fun and learning!
YOUTH ROOM PROJECT
As part of the preparation for our
conversion of the old sanctuary (the
chapel) into a Youth Center, we will be
removing the old pews. Members may
purchase these; the price is yet to be
determined. You may reserve your pew
by writing your name on the masking tape
placed on each pew; first-come, first-served.
CHILDREN’S
CHOIR
We’re gearing up for Advent and Christmas!
On Sunday, October 19 we begin practice in
the main sanctuary from 9:30 – 9:45 a.m.
each Sunday, followed by Sunday School.
We will be preparing for the coming of
Emmanuel as well as learning lots of other
fun songs as well. Come join the fun!

  • 21. SOCK IT AWAY FOR CALVARY! Are you a saver? Do you put things away just in case you need them? Ten years ago we ‘Socked It Away for Calvary.’ Decorated socks were handed out. If you still have yours… and I know some of you do!... please bring them to the church picnic on September 7th … or to church that morning!. If you don’t have one or can’t find the one you had…no worries…we will have others for you. Beginning on September 7th we will once again ‘Sock it Away for Calvary.’ You are challenged to put your spare change in the sock every day. The socks will be collected in November when we dump all the change (paper money is welcomed too) into a pot … making a ‘joyful noise’ to the Lord!! This money will be used for debt reduction…just like it was 10 years ago!
