Christopher Columbus was born in 1451 in Genoa, Italy and studied maps and navigation. He convinced the Catholic Monarchs to fund his voyage by proposing that he could find a western route to Asia faster than traveling east. In 1492, Columbus landed on an island in the Americas believing he had reached Asia, becoming the first European to discover the New World, though he did not realize this before his death in 1506.

2. Christopher Columbus was born in 1451
in Genoa (Italy). He was a sailor and
studied stars and maps of the oceans
and seas. He thought that the Earth was
a sphere.

3. Columbus spoke with the Catholic Monarchs. He
said to them that he knew a new route to get to the
Indies faster. He asked them to pay for the trip.
Eventually, he convinced them.

4. The Catholic Monarchs paid for the trip and they gave
him three caravels: “Pinta , Niña and Santa María”.

5. Finally they landed in an island in1492, but they weren´t
in The Indies, they were in America. Columbus had
discovered a new continent.The trip started in Palos´s
port. It was a long trip and Columbus thought that they
would never arrive.

6. He died in Valladolid in May 1506 without
knowing that he had discovered America, a
new continent.
