2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

7. MY GYM This is the Garlasco Sports Center. It is in the middle of the town and we go there once a week to play sports. As soon as we get off the school-bus we go into the gym. The gym is really big, there are stands and behind them there are the lockers and toilets and two rooms where they keep the sports equipment. In the central area they have put up two basketball nets. The floor is green and it is made of white, red, yellow and blue coloured stripes. The windows are really dark to stop too much sunlight from coming in. We have a lot of fun when we play! Usually we start running a few laps with a little run and then we walk for a while until our breathing gets back to normal regulate breathing. Then we play Hit-Ball or some other games. If you lay down on the floor and you look up at the ceiling it’s like being in space, it feels real, it really does. If you talk or scream you can hear the echo and that’s real fun too. We always have a good time in the gym because we have a lot of space to run and jump.
