Business Model Canvas is strategic management and starting template for expanding new or existing business models. In 2005, Alexander Osterwalder has initially proposed the nine "building blocks" of the Business Model Canvas based on his earlier work on business model ontology. Around 2008, new canvases for specific niches have emerged. Using the template, any company can quickly describe their business model. The template consists of nine boxes, which are Key Partners, Key Activities, Value Propositions, Customer Relationships, Customer Segments, Key Resources, Distribution Channels, Cost Structures, and Revenue Streams.
For this assignment, I choose a food and beverage company named Secret Recipe Cakes & Café Sdn Bhd. Founded in 1997 by Tan Sri Dato' Steven Sim, Secret Recipe has successfully established its brand name in Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Brunei, Cambodia, Myanmar, Maldives, and Bangladesh. The company also plans to enter the India and New Zealand markets in the future. This cafe serves cakes and fusion food with a Halal certificate given by Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia (JAKIM). The cafe usually located in shopping malls and prime urban locations in major cities in the region. Secret Recipe has grown to over 440 cafes throughout Asia since its establishment. The company also has opened branches in Australia once but because of the high costs of starting up a franchise, the operation was stopped.
I choose this company because I have interested in researching the food and beverage sector compared to other sectors. Besides, it is a leading and largest café chain in Malaysia that has a good reputation and famous among Malaysian because of their delicious cakes. I can say that almost all Malaysian will celebrate anything with the Secret Recipe cakes. Other than that, as a Muslim, I think it is good to know that they committed to follow the standards of preparation of all food and processing plants in the restaurant under the Halal-certification regulatory guidelines including HACCP and VHM guidelines.

4. INTRODUCTION
Investment is an asset or item that is purchased with the hope that it will generate
income or will appreciate in the future. In an economic sense, an investment is the purchase of
goods that are not consumed today but are used in the future to create wealth. In, finance, an
investment is a monetary asset purchased with the idea that the asset will provide income in
the future or will be sold at a higher price for a profit.
While an investment portfolio is a pool of different investment by which an investor
bets to make a profit or income while aiming to preserve the invested amount. It is also
referred to as “a basket of securities” that is essential to the study of Investment and Portfolio
Management under the course of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Major in
Financial Management.
The intention of investment for this project is to know clearly the flow of cash from
activities relating to business transactions. It shows honest and outcomes that are beneficial to
the party needing it. Another is to be able to compute the profits or losses gained from
business transactions and decisions. Lastly, it is also used to compute and analyse the
development of the business and the factors affecting it.
5. BACKGROUND OF THE
PROJECT
After we spend time and resources to conduct a feasibility studies and market survey,
partnership decided to put up four investment namely the Lending, E-load, Sari-sari, and Gasoline. We
have to come up with the lending investment by doing thorough market research, ensure that all the key
areas are covered on what the original was planned of the partnership. We also focus on the opportunity
it gives at the end of the partnership as well as the risk involves of the said investment. Second
investment that we have is the Sari- sari, it’s the best investment that have because we know that it has a
big profit of the end of the day. E-load is the third investment of the partnership which is also has a great
return over some of our investments. It is the first investment that we decided to have for there a lot of
people who needs a load in a day. Another one is the Gasoline it is the last investment that we have
decided for it takes time to sell in a month.
Therefore the return is not that big. So before we begin with this investment we scouts some of
supply that near in our place to display this kind of products, we ask two persons with who are expert of
the latter, our closes friends suggest that it’s better to Talakag ,Cabanglasan, but it is far here in
Malaybalay considering the transportation expense is costly. One of our companions had a survey in the
said place then we figure out that it is better than in the Talakag and Cabanglasan area then it is in
Casisang area. These investments might be risky but at least we appreciate its nature, we really have to
exert some effort for these and recognize that we somehow engaged with this type of investment.
6. SCOPE OF INVESTMENT
SARI-SARI
For this type of investment the focus is more on the neighbourhood where the investment is
located at Cabanglasan. Because it takes them lesser effort to buy their everyday needs to the faraway
places.
ELOAD
Our target markets for this investment are the students who has ofcourse a sim specifically
globe or TM. It is more needed in boarding houses especially to all of classmates.
LENDING
In this kind of investment our target market is the students of Bukidnon State University
especially if they need cash instantly if they have an important thing to buy or they have short budget
for the expenses for the week. We also lend money to those people who needs cash ranging from P100-
P500 pesos with the interest rate off 5% per week.
GASOLINE
This kind of investment our target market are the habal-habal drivers or the people around the
area who owns a motorcycle.
7. IMPLEMENTATION OF THE
PROJECT
• SARI-SARI STORE
The sari-sari store started on December 5 2018 at Iba, Cabanglasan Bukidnon. We
choose this location were we can start our investment with sari-sari because one of my group
mates has a store there were the products can be placed. Specifically, the costumers there were
the neighbours’ of our group mate. It was also a great place where we could start our sari-sari
because their store there is already known to the public. Since one of our group mates has a
sari-sari store in their place, it is more efficient to the group and it also takes a lesser effort to
distribute and sell to the product to the prospect costumers. A small sari-sari store which
comprises of basic commodities of the people available at an affordable price. Product like
canned goods noodles, toothpaste, shampoo, soap, detergent etc. Target customers were
basically families where the availability of goods and product are accessible and convenient
.Also the most popular target costumer will be the children where candies, chocolates, and
sweets mostly like. Located among the areas where there are many houses and resident living
in the place. To provide services that is accessible and convenient to everyone.
8. LENDING
This is also one that we invest starting on December 8 2018 just within the locality of Malaybalay City,
Brgy. Casisang specifically. Our prospect customers are our classmates, neighbour’s, friends and board
mates. We choose this investment it’s because just in case that some students lack money they can borrow to
us with 5 % interest. This investments is an emergency investment, because we all know that some students
don’t have enough allowance to cover up all expenses for the week especially when projects occur.
E-LOAD
The E-Load started on December 20 2018 at Bukidnon state University. We choose E-load as one of our
investment because people now a days has a mobile phones and it serves as a means of communications and
they need load for that, so we started at BukSU where load is very much needed, specifically students, and
board mates. We also bring E-Load at Baranggay 9 malaybalay where we also brought the E-Load, since one
of our group mates had also friends there were she can offer them to buy load to her.
GASOLINE
We started investing gasoline in the month of December for us it takes advantages it is because a lot of our
neighbors are have motorcycle when they can buy for us. We decided to put up gasoline in Talakag
Bukidnon where one of our group mates volunteer to handle this. First we offer it in a lower price for us to
get some customers and to well opened for everyone. As of now we had a stable costumer and it well known
in our barangay.

23. FINDING, ANALYSIS, AND
CONCLUSION
Findings
As we went this through investment requirement, we found out that not all
investment are sure to gain profit, because some incur losses, too. Our findings show that even
though an investment has a big capital, it is not a guarantee that the return will be a big or as
much. It only shows that wise decisions and analytical strategies are important when doing an
investment in order to reduce risk and increase profit
In our case, our findings show that our investment gained more or less 40% during the
allotted time for us to do business. We also found out that investing in a business is not an
easy decision to make. We had to make. We had to make sacrifices on order to continue our
business like; dividing our time from our academics and sleeping late just to focus on our
investment. But in the end, it is all worth because we were able to gain profit and increase our
capital. Our investment was a success and we are happy to see that our sacrifices and hard
work are all worth it in the end.

25. Analysis
During our investment requirement, we analyzed that it is essential invest not only in one investment,
but in several to increase the chances of a profit and minimize the risk. A diverse investments more
profitable than a single investment and has a greater chance of success. We came up with this analysis in
accordance to our experiences and decisions that affected our business.
Conclusion
In our investment, we conclude that it is more profitable to invest in a diverse investment than in a
single investment only. It is also safer because in a diverse, there is a bigger chance of return in profit
compared to a single investment that might result in a loss. We based this conclusion on the actual
experiences that we gained during our time business and in the, that we made for our success.
26. RECOMMENDATION
As student who undergone and experienced what it is like in the business world first hand and
based on our investment as well, we recommend that to acquire a diverse kind of investment, not just for
the safety of the capital but also to be able to maximize it and the preferred expected rate of return,
planning ahead of time is significant and necessary for the assurance of future needs. Hard work and
patience must be possessed to achieve the expected vision, mission and goals.
We also recommend to each every individual who is interested to invest in a business that time
management is a must and sacrifices will be made. Risk cannot be avoided in an investment that is why
interested people must be ready to take this risk because it will test the analytical skills and decision-
making capabilities of a person. One must also be knowledgeable and wise enough on making such
decisions in order to minimize the possible risk and challenges that might be encountered along the way.
We recommend investing in a business because aside from all the possible risk it still brings a greater
chance of possibility of a profit that can benefit an investor.
