Christ died on the cross as the perfect, sinless substitute to save Juan de la Cruz, who represents all sinners. As the just dying for the unjust, Christ took the place of sinners and died for their sins so that through faith they can have eternal life. The Bible passages cited throughout the document establish that Christ was without sin but died to save those who were dead in their sins and deserving of judgment, so that all who believe in him would be made righteous and brought near to God.
