God doesn’t accept any worship, many have substituted self made religion for true worship whether it is asceticism or play. We may be bored in our assemblies because we are too focused on ourselves and not on God.
How do we live wisely and in tune with the One who knows the future? From a talk by Russ Fochler at Blazing Fire Church on October 13, 2012. See www.blazingfire.org for the podcast.
Metamorphosis is a discipleship book for new Christians. It covers thirteen crucial topics that every new believer in Jesus Christ should know and experience. These include being born again, baptism, prayer, the Bible, the church, service, confessing sins to God, inner spiritual life, and Christ’s transforming power. The short chapters, many verses, and discussion questions are all designed to be read by a new believer along with a mentor or in small group settings.
The Metamorphosis project was a huge collaborative work. The initial content for each chapter was developed by a group of over 20 interns and over the course of 5 years, the content was edited by a number of copy editors and theology scholars. Each of its 105 pages has a unique textural design and vivid artwork is scattered throughout book, featuring 5 different artists. It is all unified into one style, literary voice, and artistic vision.
The Feast of the Ascension brings to mind all the historic art that shows Jesus ascending upward on a cloud, with the disciples looking towards heaven. It makes for great art and reflects the cosmology of those times, but if we stop there, we totally miss the whole concept of what the Ascension means to you and me today. So what is that? Check it all out…
Today we celebrate the Feast of All Saints and for some reason we get it stuck in our heads that saints are a completely different kind of human being - when instead, they are very ordinary people like you and I. So, while we may all take a moment to remember our favorite saints – what about all those who may have gone before us and are unrecognized as a saint? So, take a few minutes and see how people like Jessica Robles, Jimmy Willmert, Joe Shuba, and my friend Steve DiGregorio have helped open many eyes to what this Feast Day means. See what I mean…
This Sunday we brought to a close Ordinary Time of our Liturgical season and through the year we have walked through the Gospel of Mark, using the Sunday gospels learning how to see as God sees. But the question remains whether we have allowed the words to help us see any better? In his latest book release, Fr. Greg Boyle, SJ reminds us that we need to see as a Mystic sees. Jesuit theologian Karl Rahner said, “The Christian of the future will either be a mystic – or (s)he will cease to be anything at all.” We are all called to be mystics? What does that even mean or look like today? Check it out…

Women had to suffer so much because of the so-called Original Sin, she was also the reason for which God has sent his sole son to be crucified on the Cross.

Someone very wise has said, “You don;t know what you believe until you have to.” Few things tell us more about ourselves or about what we believe about God than tough times.
Everyone has or will face tough times. This message of timeless biblical truths will refresh our minds and hearts no matter where we are in life, especially if we are in a storm so dark and confusing that we feel somewhat helpless to rescue ourselves. If that is you, relax. Our Heavenly Father is already working to make that situation turn out for your good in some mysterious but wonderful way. This is what this message is all about.
Beth starts off the message with a real illustration of how good God is from her life last week!

Homily: The Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity Sunday 2024.docxJames Knipper
Countless volumes have been written trying to explain the mystery of three persons in one true God, leaving us to resort to metaphors such as the three-leaf clover to try to comprehend the Divinity. Many of us grew up with the quintessential pyramidal Trinity structure of God at the top and Son and Spirit in opposite corners. But what if we looked at this ‘mystery’ from a different perspective? What if we shifted our language of God as a being towards the concept of God as love? What if we focused more on the relationship within the Trinity versus the persons of the Trinity? What if stopped looking at God as a noun…and instead considered God as a verb? Check it out…

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

3. INTRODUCTION:
Word meaning: Commitment;
: a promise to do or give something
: a promise to be loyal to someone or something
: the attitude of someone who works very hard
to do or support something.
4. INTRODUCTION:
• Synonyms: dedication, devotedness, faithfulness,
loyalty, steadfastness. Pangako, obligasyon, tungkulin.
• Word Committed: All of these commitments could it
vain,
if you had been not committed;... Pangakong napako...
5. OUR PASSAGE: THE COST OF DISCIPLESHIP
(LEARNER, FOLLOWER).
• Commmitted - Obedience to your commitment...
Ang kahalagahan ng pagtupad sa Pangako o
Obligasyon:
Vs.
6. I. CHRIST MUST BE LOVED ABOVE ALL:
• The Bible teaches us to love each other. We must not even hate
our enemies. In fact, we must love them;
Luke 6:27 ..not the hate like a natural angry...
Here ‘hate’ means to love less. Our love for Jesus must be first
and greater than our love for each other. Matthew 10:37
• Our love for Jesus must be so strong that, in contrast, our love
for our family is like hate. Priority, Seek first the Lord.
Matt 22: 37
7. I. CHRIST MUST BE LOVED ABOVE ALL:
• 1 John 4: 19 We love him, because he first loved us.
• Illustration:
• Commitment to your Loved One (sweetheart)...
1 John 2: 5; Paul's commitment to Christ
Phil 1: 21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is
gain.
8. II. CHRISTIAN WILL SUFFER HARDNESS FOR CHRIST
SAKE:
• Vs - 27 Sinomang hindi nagdadala ng kaniyang
sariling krus, at sumusunod sa akin, ay hindi
maaaring maging alagad ko.
9. 1. THE MEANING OF THE CROSS.
• The cross includes loss and damage
It speaks shame and reproach (pagkutya)
It imports pain, torture and death.
This is how our Lord bear the cross for us...
Phil 2: 8
Isa 53: 5 -6; Rm 5:8 Ipinagtagubilin ng Dios ang
kaniyang pagibig sa atin.
10. 2. THE MANNER OF BEARING (PARAAN) THE CROSS.
• a) A Christian endeavors to bear the cross patiently. That
while the cross oppresses his outward man, he may
possess his soul in patience due sense of the pressure,
with a quiet submission to the hand of God, whoever be
the instrument, without murmuring. He endeavours to
bear it cheerfully.
11. ILLUSTRATIONS:
• Simon of Cyrene was compelled to bear that cross.
Christ would have us come after Him, bear it as He
did. It should not be a forced, but a voluntary act.
• b) A Christian endeavors to bear the cross fruitfully.
Heb12: 11
• c) A Christian endeavors to bear the cross costly.
12. ILLUSTRATIONS:
• This puts the followers of Christ upon seeking the fruits
of peace and holiness, to get spiritual gain and
advantage by outward loss; to grow richer unto God.
Phil 3: 7 -8. Illus: Missing Chicken...
• Lk 12: 21 Gayon nga ang nagpapakayaman sa ganang
kaniyang sarili, at hindi mayaman sa Dios.
1 Tim 6: 6 But Godliness with contentment is great gain.
13. 3. THE MANDATE OF BEARING THE CROSS.
• Lk 9: 23 Kung sinomang tao ang Ibig sumunod as
akin...
• a) Act 17:11 Ngayon lalong naging mararangal ang
mga ito kay sa mga taga Tesalonica, sapagka't
tinanggap nila ang salita ng buong pagsisikap, at
sinisiyasat sa araw-araw ang mga kasulatan, kung
tunay nga ang mga bagay na ito.
14. 3. THE MANDATE OF BEARING THE CROSS.
• b) Heb 3: 13 Nguni't kayo'y mangagpangaralan sa isa't isa
araw-araw, samantalang sinasabi, Ngayon; baka
15. CHALLENGE:
• The crowds were following Jesus. They thought that he
was going to become a powerful leader. But Jesus told
them that he was going to suffer. His *followers must be
ready to suffer for their *faith, and even to die for it. But
Jesus also meant that a *disciple must give up his own
plans, comforts and ambitions. Carrying a cross is very
hard and painful.
Sometimes today, it is difficult to be a Christian.
16. CONCLUSION: LK 14: 28 - 32
• These two parables use familiar situations. They make
people think about the cost and danger of being a
disciple. Verses 28 and 31 talk of ‘sitting down’ first. This
suggests that people must take care when they decide
whether to follow Jesus. One must consider what it will
cost to ‘build’ one’s *faith and ‘fight’ its enemies. ‘Build’
means the work of a whole life, not a sudden, brief
effort. ‘Fight’ means opposing evil in every way.
17. REMEMBER COMMITMENT IS OBEDIENCE
• Obedience is Follower, Follower is Disciple is
Christian...
• Jesus does not want as *disciples those people who
cannot continue with him. Instead, they should
know what it means to be his *disciples. And they
make the decision to give up everything for him. By
this means, they give to Jesus the control of their
lives.
18. • However, Jesus does not expect his *disciples to do these things
by means of their own strength. Every Christian would certainly
fail if he depended on himself. People can only be strong enough
to stand as *disciples of Christ if they depend completely on
God. Because He supports his people, even the weakest
Christian becomes strong enough to follow Christ. Acts 1: 8...
• Verse 33 To ‘give up everything’ means to be completely loyal as
one follows Jesus. Whatever it costs. A *disciple must give his
whole effort to the work of the *kingdom of God.
This is the Cost of Being Committed to our Lord and Savior Jesus
Christ.
REMEMBER COMMITMENT IS OBEDIENCE
