A national team is using daily temperature and rainfall data from 1951-2100 from several global climate models to generate projections under two emission scenarios. Products developed so far include maps of historical climate averages and trends, as well as projected changes in averages for different time periods and climate extremes indices important to sectors like agriculture. Lesotho hopes these scenarios will help prepare for increased temperature, altered precipitation patterns, and more frequent extreme weather events under climate change. Developing the scenarios with local experts is building national capacity, though higher resolution data may better capture Lesotho's complex terrain.
