Early Start Programme
           
Aims
 
1. To implement an
   educational
   programme that will
   enhance the overall
   development of young
   children and prevent
   school failure.
2. To counteract the
   effects of social
   disadvantage.
Curriculum
                   
Prioritises the four core areas of:

       language
       cognition
       social development
       personal development

Play and positive adult-child interaction are the
cornerstones of the Early Start activities.
Desired Outcomes
                
1. The children involved will develop confidence in their
   ability to learn
2. The children involved will develop learning styles, which
   are led by motivated, organised and appropriately
   independent behaviour
3. The children involved will develop their language,
   cognition and social/personal skills to the extent that they
   will be able to easily adapt to school life in the future
4. The 'learning through play' approach used will be
   positive and enjoyable for the children involved
5. The parents of participating children will become actively
   involved in their children's education.

 and celebrations in their public or school library. The Guide contains program
          models and resources for many types and sizes of programs.
