A straightforward answer to this is that love is an emotion whose usefulness is undeniable and its importance cannot be denied. We can also say that love is a ray of light that contains innumerable colors. But when it is passed through the glass manifesto of emotions, innumerable beautiful colors burst forth and innumerable emotions grow in these colors.
A poet has also defined love as:
A word of love is a lowly myth
If the heart is in love, then it is time
The poem ‘Childhood’ deals with the poet’s curiosity to know when an individual ceases to be a child. He wonders whether it is the age or the stage when the young, unsullied mind learns to see through the adults’ hypocrisy and identifies his own distinctiveness. Childhood disappears to hide itself in an infant’s innocent expression.
SUMMARY
The process of growing from a child to an adolescent and then to an adult is an impalpable one. However one fine day one realizes that one has left behind the childhood and one has stepped into the world of adolescence and adulthood. There is no line of demarcation between the various stages. The poet wonders whether it is a span of years or the process of losing innocence and outgrowing gullibility, seeing through others’ hypocrisy and craftiness or acquiring an individuality that spells the cessation of childhood. Somewhat satisfied with his analysis, the poet takes up the next question as to where his childhood has disappeared. He concludes that childhood resides in an infant’s face i.e. childhood is the abode of innocence. The moment one loses innocence, one ceases to be a child.
THEME
The poem deals with the theme of the loss of childhood because of psycho-physical growth, development of thought and the influence of worldly ways. Disillusioned with the hypocritical ways of the adult world, the poet bemoans the loss of his childhood because it also resulted in the loss of innocence. However, one positive outcome of this loss is that the poet has discovered his ability to think of new thoughts independently and the individuality and uniqueness of his being.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.

b) Was that the day!
This line begins with a question word but ends with
an exclamation. Hence, it is no more a mere question.
Rhetorical in nature, this line brings out the poet's
sense of realisation.
20. CHILDHOOD 20
3.What did the poet realize about adults?
The poet used to believe that his elders were sincere about
relationship and love. But later he realized that their love
was not real. He saw that the adults were only talking
about love but never loved anyone.
4.What happened to the poet when he was aware of his
ego?
At the end of his childhood, the poet realized that he too
was a separate individual. He began to take his own
decisions. He seldom listened to his elders because he began
to place himself at the center of everything.
21. CHILDHOOD 21
5.What misunderstandings did the poet have about adults
till he became one?
The poet, until he was himself an adult, had thought that
the grown up people had real love for others. He believed
that their love was true and they were ready to die for their
loved ones.
6.How did adults ‘seem’ to the poet when he was a child?
When the poet was a child adults seemed to him as
messengers and poets of love. He heard them singing love
songs and talking endlessly about love and romance.
22. CHILDHOOD 22
7.Bring out the hypocrisy that the adults inhibit with
regards to love.
Adults talk too much about love and almost every aspect of
the adult life is closely connected with love; movies, plays,
novels and songs. But the poet believes that the adults are
hypocritical about love because in practice they do not
have true love for others.
8.How do social interactions kill a child in a child?
A human being is supposed to live as innocent as a child
throughout his life but it is very hard in a society that
believes “complexity is maturity and science is the final
word.” When the child grows up, he hears, sees,
understands and accept new codes of behavior and new
concepts of growth.
23. CHILDHOOD 23
9.Where does the poet find his lost childhood? How can he
get it back?
The poet, a specimen of the counterfeit personality, finds
his lost childhood on the face of a child. he can get it back
only when he commits to be child again, forgetting the
complex adult concepts and pseudo maturity perceptions.
