Checklist for Shoulder Dystocia
1.OB announce dystocia - to the room
2.Primary RN - start timing
3.Call for help – another RN, OB, Ped
4.Maneuvers
o McRoberts
o Suprapubic pressure
5 Announce time - 1 min intervals
6. Additional maneuvers
o Rotational (Woods, Rubin)
o Posterior arm
When initiating the above maneuvers, ask the patient to stop
pushing and RN to stop suprapubic. This will allow easier
insertion of the OB’s hand into the vagina.
• Further maneuvers to consider
o Gaskin position (hands and knees)
o Episiotomy
• If considering Zavenelli maneuver (replacement
of the head)
o Call anesthesiologist
o Alert techs to open OR
o Ensure uterine relaxation
