Characters Transition into an Adult
As people will say growing up sucks, you finally realize you aren't a kid anymore. In the coming of
age film, you see the main character emotionally transition into a adult. What makes the coming of
age film special is the relationship the protagonist has with his or her group of friends. The coming
of age film differs in friendships, depending on the gender of the main character. The friendships
help shape how the protagonist is going to be by the end of the film, usually in a positive light.
When the films characters are predominantly woman the film is usually emotional and sarcastic. The
female friendships are not usually compromised and the girls are often loyal to a fault. In the film
Now & Then (Lesli Linka Glatter 1995) Demi Moore & Gaby Hoffmann (young) play Samantha, a
woman who is going home to fulfill a promise she made to her four three childhood friends Chrissy
(Ashleigh Aston (young, Rita Wilson adult), Roberta (Christina Ricci young, Rosie O'Donnell
adult), and Teeny (Thora Birch young, Melanie Griffith adult) to always be there when they were
needed. Throughout the beginning of the film, Samantha is stressing about returning and meeting up
with friends she hasn't seen in years. Sam even as a grown adult kept a childhood promise she could
have easily have backed out on.
Now & Then starts our in present time and goes back to when Sam feels like everything changed for
her. Death brings these girls together as they search to figure out what happened to Dear

What Is Voyeurism In Rear Window
I chose to critique a movie called Rear Window, a realist film by Alfred Hitchcock produced in
1954. Starring James Stewart, Grace Kelly and, Wendell Corey. The genre is thriller and the sub
genre suspense infused with mystery. Therefore, Rear Window one of Alfred Hitchcock's highly
inspired audience participation films. When a person watches it, he feels, tantalized, shocked, and
exhilarated. Further in this essay, I will summarize the plots, discuss the styles used, and deconstruct
parts of the film.
The protagonist film is Jeff who is photographer that broke one of his legs and is sitting in a wheel
chair by his apartment window. Having nothing to achieve, Jeff gets very board he peeks at his
neighbor's room from his rear window. With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hitchcock, the director points it out to the audience as he concentrates on Jeff focusing on what's
happening inside his neighborhood. Allowing the audience to stay focused, as we become voyeurs
watching the various dramas unfolding. Moreover, Alfred Hitchcock has unlimited technical
brilliance with a boundless ability to portray a story in a very distinctive manner. Using the
techniques of dramatic variation of size to achieve other desired emotions from the audience, by
cutting from long shots to extreme close ups. The story line in the film revolves around voyeurism,
guilt, friendship, and sexuality. Moreover, the editing techniques in the film raise attention to the
events that unfold in front of us. The shots in the movie are edited in a relatively subjective style.
According to Hitchcock "Editing shouldn't be in terms of "cutting" but rather in terms of "assembly"
or "Mosaic'' (Hitchcok, 1963, p.4). Therefor, Montage is the process or technique of selecting and
piecing together separate sections of film to form a continuous sequence. When two shots juxtapose
in such a way it gives the third shot another meaning. This is one classic examples of Alfred
Hitchcock's way of thinking. The voyeurism practiced in the film makes the audience conscious of
why the protagonist is behaving in a certain

Who Is Giles Corey Mature In The Crucible
"More weight!" This quote was said by Giles Corey a character in The Crucible while being pressed
to death. Giles Corey is an 83 year old man who lived and worked on a farm, and his wife was
accused of witchcraft. Giles Corey and I have similar personality traits, we are both, loyal, sarcastic,
and stubborn. Giles Corey and I are both very loyal people. Giles Corey shows that he is loyal
because he wouldn't give his opinion on whether he thinks his wife is committed to witchcraft or
not. Since Giles didn't say aye or nay, he was pressed to death. I am like Giles Corey in a way
because I am also a loyal person. If we are having a serious conversation that you've never told
anyone, or if you tell me a secret I will not tell anyone unless you give me your permission to tell
them, if I'm also with a group of people and a topic that we talked about comes up I won't say your
name. Something else that I'm loyal to is relationships. I don't have very much experience with
relationships, but I do know that it's really wrong to flirt or hang out with a guy alone when you are

Giles Corey was sarcastic because when he was talking to Reverend Parris when his daughter and
niece ran away they stole 33 pounds which was all the money that Reverend Parris and he said he
was moneyless now, after Rev. Parris said that Giles made a snobby remark saying "66 pounds a
year really makes you moneyless." Along with Giles I am also pretty sarcastic, I try to make my
sarcasm more entertaining than rude, but if I am rude and I catch it right away I'll apologize because
it might've been offensive to the person. I'm usually sarcastic to my family or really close friends
because some other people won't get my sense of humor. I have three types of sarcasm, mean
sarcasm but I don't try to be, funny sarcasm, and annoying sarcasm to the point I do it too much and

Peta Advertisements Essay
PETA advertisements don't always just feature one person, but also involve couples that want to
pose for the organization. Football player Tony Gonzalez and his wife October, Guns N' Roses
guitar player Duff Mckagan and wife Susan Holmes Mckagan, and Surviver stars Jenna Morasca
and Ethan Zohn are just a few of the couples that have stripped down to pose for PETA ads. All of
the couples mentioned are married to a parter that is the same race as them and none of the PETA
ads featuring couples are interracial. Interestingly enough, PETA actually did a spoof on arguably
one of the most famous interracial couple of all time, John Lennon and Yoko Ono. It portrayed
Corey and Susie Feldman, both white, stripped down for a play on Lennon and Ono's famous "Give
Peace a Chance" bed–in picture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Behind them there are two signs. The one on the left reads "Give Peas A Chance" and the one on the
right reads "Go Veg. PETA" (Cierlitsky). This ad is a very clever play one words, but it portrays a
couple of problematic things. Just because the picture was played off of an interracial couple doesn't
mean that PETA had to use an interracial couple, but it would have been a perfect time to make a
statement (as PETA usually does) that there is nothing abnormal about interracial marriage. Having
it be a heterosexual, white couple further perpetuates the heteronormative and white dominated
advertising strategies that over run the media. This may be a different story if PETA portrayed an
interracial couple in one of their ads, but this not the case. As Kumiko Nemoto points out in
"Interracial Romance," there has been a serge in interracial relationships in the United States,
particularity because of the growing immigrant population. Just a couple decades ago, it was illegal
to marry someone of a different race. The United States has come a long way since then, however
media tells a different

Summary: The Influence Of Sexual Assault On College Campuses
College women are 3 times more likely to be sexually assaulted than omen in the general
population. One in four college women will be sexually assaulted while in college. In a national
survey of adults, 37.4% of female rape victims were first raped between the ages 18–24. In a study
of undergraduate women 19% experienced attempted or completed sexual assault since entering
college (CDC, 2012). The myths and rape culture surrounding it makes the suffering and
experiences of victims seem invalid and insignificant. Young women come to college for awesome
experiences, to learn prosper and have fun not be taken advantage of. Humans need to feel secure
and safe in new environments like university. Negligence, rape culture and lack of preparation by
campus authority/administration when dealing with sexual assault(SA) further perpetuates sexual
violence on college campuses.

investigated. The speaker notes that 41% of schools interviewed had not conducted a single
investigation in the last five years. This video shows that there is a lack of cooperation and collusion
between local law enforcement and universities when SA is the issue. This disparity coincides with
the idea that law enforcement and universities act indifferently when SA is reported. This
indifference downplays the experience of victims and further perpetuates violence against them and
future victims. Campus authority and administration have a responsibility to students and parents to

Speach Stand by Me Analysis
The movie Stand By Me is a great portrayal of a group of four young friends who set out to find a
dead body. These boys have many trials and tribulations and manage to maintain their friendship
throughout the movie. Gordie, Chris, Teddy and Vern are an unstoppable cast; showing their trust,
friendship, and insecurities to one another. The main role of Gordie LaChance is played by Wil
Wheaton. He is having trouble in his life at this time because he just lost his brother and his parents
are having a very difficult time dealing with it. Chris Chambers was played by River Phoenix. Chris
is considered a loser because of his family and everybody thinks he will do nothing in life. Through

When the old man calls his father looney Teddy flips out. He starts kicking and punching even
though he's on the other side of the fence. This remains a problem with the group because they have
to spend time comforting him before they get back on the road again. On more than one occasion
Teddy got in small fights with almost all of the different group members. Teddy hinders group
development by forcing the group to devote time and effort to control his behavior.
Chris remains one of the leaders, but even at times presents a problem to the group. He has a very
tough attitude and almost gets his eye burned out in the beginning trying to stand up against bigger,
tougher kids. At the end of the movie he almost gets attacked with a knife for mouthing off to the
same group of kids, but Gordie bailed him out. By standing up against difficult group members
Gordie really showed his leadership skills. Gordie seems to have a lot of personal issues with
finding this dead body because of how often he thinks about his older brother who had passed away.
Gordie really takes this trip/adventure personally mainly because of how close he feels to this dead
body. Only a few months before this trip, Gordy's older brother Denny had been killed in a car
accident, and Gordy has been ignored at home since, which we see in flashbacks. Gordy aspires to
be a writer, but the only support he had came from his brother. Now Gordie feels a very close

Theme Of Honesty In The Crucible
If honesty is the fastest way to prevent a mistake from turning into a failure, then why don't people
just tell the truth? In 1938, the House Un–American Committee was created by Senator Joseph
McCarthy who accused government employees of being Communists. McCarthyism had targeted
not only the members of the United States Government but also the entertainers and writers. Author
Miller was one of those writers. He wrote "The Crucible" to show the similarities between the Salem
Witch Trials and the McCarthy Trails, who both accused people of being what they weren't.People
accused in the McCarthy Trails went through the same tests as people in the Salem Witch Trials. In
the play "The Crucible", the characters Mary Warren, John Proctor and Giles Corey all face a test of
honesty, in which they either passed or failed.Mary Warren is unsuccessful in telling the truth, John
Proctor cheated on his wife, and Giles Corey gets him and his wife sentenced to death.
Mary Warren is the first to fail the test. She lets Abigail easily use her in this play which makes
Mary look like a pawn in some kind of game. In court, Mary Warren was unsuccessful in exposing
the hoax because of her fear of Abigail. While in distress Mary cries out," No, I love God; I go your
way no more. I love god. I bless God. Abby, Abby, I'll never hurt you more!"(III.1461–1465) . In
Addition to lying, she turned on John John Proctor, the man she was supposed to be helping expose
the hoax. She agreed to testify

Intoredance And Intolerance In The Crucible By Arthur Miller
The definition of the word martyr as defined by Merriam–Webster is "a person who voluntarily
suffers death as the penalty of witnessing to and refusing to renounce a religion." When many
people think of a martyr their first instinct in their mind is not to think of witchcraft and the town of
Salem. The play written by Arthur Miller titled "The Crucible" is based on real events that correlate
with this definition. "The Crucible" depicts the 1692 Salem Witch Trials that transformed the town
of Salem into hysteria. The start of the trials began way before Abigail Williams accused one of the
townspeople of witchcraft, but when many girls were caught dancing and singing in the woods. The
trials continued for less than a year but over 200 people were accused. With the breakout of hysteria
and intolerance the town everyone seemed to turn on eachother. Giles Corey embodied the theme of
the play "The Crucible" by being intolerant and going against the others, eventually costing him his
life.
To begin, the theme of "The Crucible" is intolerance. To understand this theme you have to know
what Intolerance is. Unwillingness to accept views, beliefs, or behaviors that differ from one's own
is intolerance. The reason supporting why Giles Corey embodies intolerance is because in the play,
Giles was a dynamic character. This means that he went through a change throughout the play both
physically and emotionally. The change that we see Giles go through is when he becomes intolerant
and goes away from what majority of the others within Salem are believing, witchcraft. The
argument of the proof that Giles showed his neighbor,Ann Putnam, about the accusation of
witchcraft was another example of how he portrayed the theme throughout the play. Another lasting
impact that Giles has on the theme of the play is that was intolerant to a large group of Salem
townspeople whose main motive for witch accusations was for the dispute over land and wealth
within the community. The accusation of Giles and his wife Martha is directly because of that
dispute. Not only did the intolerance of the many people within the town caused Giles to change, but
unfortunately cost him his wife's and his own life.
A secondary thought to tie in with Giles and

4. Application/ Synthesis– we learned how to take gained knowledge coupled with new information
and synthesize it into an expression of our own learning. Character Traits Handout Introduction F.
Scott Fitzgerald once noted, "Action is character." In other words, characters do things. They feel
things. They hear things. They say things. They think things. They go places and so on. It is in these
actions that the character's traits are established. It is in this that we, the readers, get to "see" what
kind of character thee people are: friendly, sad, nosey, love–struck, adventurous, etc. When we
discuss characters in literature, poetry, and even film, we often describe them in terms of their
character traits, descriptive adjectives that define the specific qualities of the character. The author/
poet/ director may present this directly, but often times, they show us this in action. Our job as
readers/ viewers is to draw conclusions about the character's traits (infer them). Below is a list of
ways we can determine the traits of the character we are studying: [pic] 1. APPEARANCE AND
NAME. A possible place to look for analysis is in the names of the characters: For example, Willy
Loman from Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman. "Loman" says a lot about Willy be a "low man." It
provides the reader an opportunity to analyze the name and character. Would a man with the last
name of Loman be more likely

Similarities Between Giles Corey 'And' A Fart On Thomas...
Similarities between Giles Corey and I "A fart on Thomas Putnam!" Giles Corey said this to the
courts while he was accusing Thomas Putnam of taking land from an innocent man. This quote
shows Giles Corey's personality in many ways. His stubborn and joking manner got his wife
accused of witchcraft and eventually led to his demise. Giles and I have very similar personality
traits in that we are stubborn, hard–working, and con men. Both Giles Corey and I show our
stubbornness in many ways. Giles shows his stubbornness by not talking to the courts. After he was
accused he could have easily said yes or no to the courts questions and not of been tortured. The
only words he ever said was "more weight." He was so stubborn that he lost his life. One way I am
stubborn is I will never admit I am wrong. There have been many times where I knew that I was
wrong but I was stubborn and did not admit it. My parents have even taken privileges away from me
because I would not admit I was wrong. I am also stubborn because I hold grudges. I still have a
grudge on my ex best friend from third grade for him getting my recess privileges taken away. ...

Video Games And Its Effect On Society
What is pop culture? Popular culture is defined in the dictionary as the culture based on tastes of
ordinary people rather than an educated elite. Pop culture should be taught in schools. By teaching
pop culture to students, it will help them know what's going on in the world and helps them pay
more attention in class. There are different types of pop culture such as, entertainment, music, video
games, and sports. Teaching pop culture can benefit any classroom.
Pop culture began after the Industrial Revolution, when the people had more free time and they
wanted more entertainment.(Dr. Anthony Curtis, "Music and Popular Culture in America") That is
when media began to evolve. Music started becoming popular and technology was being born. ...

It would be an interesting course and maybe help young people to understand that they are a part of
an historical process instead of believing that they are somehow unique. They would be able to think
about how their generation 's music and dress and customs have evolved out of, and are a creative
response to those of the past.
Nevertheless, pop culture doesn't have to be one class, it can be added into each different class.
Many kids know about more about pop culture than history, but having pop culture references
during a lecture can help students stay engaged on what they are learning. It also makes learning
enjoyable for both the teacher and the student.
Furthermore, pop culture gives teachers and students a chance to get know each other. Young people
are always keeping up with the pop culture, so if teachers turn it into a teaching device, they can
make the students more productive. A 2010 Kaiser Family Institute report indicates that youth
between the ages of 8 and 18 spend approximately 7.5 hours per day, seven days per week using
media, including TV, music, video games, and books. ("8 Tips For Integrating Pop Culture In The

Gender Roles InHalf-Hanged Mary?
During the Puritan time's women had been thought of as less than men, of being inferior, weak, and
lacking intelligence. In the poem, "Half–Hanged Mary" by Margaret Atwood the speaker tells the
poem from Mary Webster's point of view. This poem goes into depth, and it gives chills to the
reader. This poem is about Mary's experience of herself being executed by being hanged for not
"fitting in as the other local townswomen's" for being an outcast, and as well as witchcraft
accusations. Mary was hanged from a tree and was left there overnight, she explains to the reader
very thoroughly her thoughts hour by hour, and it is known that when she was cut down she was still
alive and lived for another 14 years. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller the women of the town, Salem
were being hanged for being the outcasts and being thought of as witches. Things got out of hand in
Salem and any finger that was pointed to someone else was just in revenge and selfishness.
Punishment came to all those that men wished upon, without explanation or testimony. As in the
poem "Half–Hanged Mary" and the anthology The Crucible it is proven that a women can stand up
for herself against men and the expected gender roles. In the poem "Half–Hanged Mary" and in The
Crucible women have very specific gender roles set, especially as a woman, they must carry forward
after each fall. Mary is an outcast in her hometown in Massachusetts. No one agreed with the way
she carried herself independently without

Characteristics Of Giles Corey In The Crucible
Is it possible for somebody to go to court thirty three times and win all those times? For Giles Corey
in The Crucible. Giles Corey has been to court that amount of times and has won all those times.
Giles Corey is married to Martha and lives in Salem. Sadly, in The Crucible Giles gets arrested for
contempt of court and is pressed to death for not giving a yes or no answer to being convicted of
witchcraft. Giles Corey and I share the traits sarcastic, determined, and loyal.
Giles Corey and I have sarcastic as a common trait. In The Crucible, Giles Corey is known for his
sarcastic humor using one liners during the play. This kind of humor is also mine. For example in
Act I, Giles says "Let's get your lumber home, John. I feel a sudden will to work coming on." when
Thomas Putnam was arguing with John Proctor over land. I also go this to my friends when they

to friends or just think of them in class to myself. I'm known for being sarcastic to my friends that
know me well, just like Giles is to his friend John Proctor. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

such as these being targets. The people knew they were honest women and yet they were still

jealousy inside this play was one of the strongest roles to make the story what it was. Jealousy
symbolizes how the trials started and also why so many people were killed for false accusations.
Characters such as Abigail had a huge jealous streak when it game to John chosing Elizabeth:

Corey Feldman Performance Analysis
Corey Feldman performed on The Today Show last week, and it actually didn't go over very well
with the viewers. He was singing, but also did a bit of dancing along with the performance. People
shared that Corey Feldman is really upset about how he was treated by the fans after the
performance was over. It turns out that Corey is so upset about what went down that he hasn't been
able to get out of bed. Corey made a big post about it all on Facebook, but then later deleted it. This
post was from Corey Feldman, but also from his "Corey's Angels," Courtney Anne. Here is what
Feldman had to say about the performance. "We just wanted to tell everybody that, like, it's been
really painful. We put ourselves out there and we did the best that we could. And, like, I've never
had such mean things said about me. Like constantly. All we can say is that we tried really hard. ...

Feldman said that they are freaked out over this and scared to go out. Corey went on to explain that
they aren't even getting out of bed. It is very obvious that he is upset. Feldman went on to explain
more. "It was a song, okay? It wasn't that weird. I'm sorry if it's not good enough for you, but you
don't have to beat us up. I just want to say that, like, why is it okay to, like, publicly shame us? ... I

is black or somebody is yellow or green or if they have a short leg or if they have a missing finger.
Like we can't talk about these things. But it's okay to bash Corey Feldman and the Angels." Corey
Feldman doesn't feel like it should be okay for everyone to public shame him over this performance.
It does sound like it would be surprising if Corey was to perform again in the future. It is obvious

Health In Maslow's hierarchy of needs there are five levels of desires or basic needs that motivate

Gordie is the smart and sensible one of the group and devises a plan to go find the boy's body. Some
of the film techniques are short shot and long shot. A short short contains only one of the characters.
In the dog chase scene they used lots of film technique such as medium shot low angle and high
angle. The medium shot is a general, all–purpose shot. Medium shots are used for dialogue
sequences, and they allow the viewer to pick up on the character's movements and gestures. Body
language is important to conveying emotion, and the medium shot remains close enough to capture
that emotion. The dog chase scene is about when the four boys stop at the junkyard to get some
water and Gordie is made to go to the shops to get some food and drinks. When gordie is coming
back from the shop he looks around and can't see his friends anywhere. When Gordie looks ahead he
sees them jumping a fence, he doesn't know what is happening but then he sees the junkman looking
straight at him. Gordie is scared and runs as fast as he can as the junkman's dog chases him, Gordie
jumps the fence and the junkman comes up to the boys on the other side and starts making fun of
Teddy's dad.
When the boy's find the dead body they are shocked because they have never seen a dead body

adolescence as they expand their world, discover themselves and find where their friendships and
loyalties lie. The gang consists of Gordie Lachance (Wil Wheaton), Chris Chambers (River

outstanding acting, we find ourselves in the shoes of Gordie as he recounts his past. After recently

The narrative voice brings our attention to how small their world is when Gordie says "we lived in
Castle Rock, but to us, it was the whole world" which is representing him looking back and
explaining how life has changed. This notion of discovering a new world returns at the end of the
film when again, the narrative voice says "we were only away for two days but it felt like the small
town we lived in had changed" and it is trying to convey how much people can change in just a
small amount of time, and it is reinforced by the idea of the coming of age and how time flies at
such a young age. The movie puts these ideas in our heads with some scenes that are placed
throughout the movie with no connection to the plot but go very deep into the characters. One of
which is a scene where Gordie is sitting peacefully on the train tracks and a young deer walks into
view. This deer is representing the man motif throughout the movie and how they are coming of age
on this journey because it symbolizes youth and innocence. The narrative voice then enforces this by
saying "I didn't tell the others about the deer" which shows that Gordie was having a moment of
understanding, which the others wouldn't think of the same way, and what it

felt the reason he got grounded in the first place was stupid. He has been suspended from school for
back–talking a teacher who, in his eyes, didn't know what she was talking about in the first place.
Things got pretty heated when said "You're just a know it all who doesn't have shit better to do than

furious. They instantly brought him back up to the school following his suspension to apologizes to
her. But even after that his parents weren't satisfied and he was grounded for two weeks. This meant
no arcade, no television, and certainly no going to a Halloween party. He had initially planned to
serve out his sentence without protest, until Juniper Sinclair had personally invited Mars to her
party.
"Hey, Marsy I'm about to make your day..."
"Oh really? Did you finally decide to step up your game and ask me on a date?" Mars smirked at
her. Her face turned a bright shade of embarrassment.
"Ha, you wish! No actually I'm inviting you to my Halloween party on Wednesday. I know its not

Stand By Me (movie Review For Small Group Com) Essay
A Summer To Remember
The movie Stand By Me is based upon a novel by Steven King. It doesn't have the same eerie feel as
some of his other books and is generally a more serious movie. It takes place in the small town of
Castle Rock, Oregon. It is the middle of the summer in approximately the early 1960's. The kids are
bored and that is the setup for their adventure to go find a dead body in the woods.
The main role of Gordie LaChance is played by Wil Wheaton. He is having trouble in his life at this

Vern whines that it means they are all doomed and should go back. Vern also slows the group when
he refuses to go into the woods away from the tracks towards the trail. He then plays the role of
backseat driver (class notes) when they reach the swamp saying, "I told you we should have kept
following the train tracks". Vern hindered the development of the group. While they could have been
devoting time to the task at hand, they had to spend time helping him with trivial things like dealing
with him being scared when they are in the woods. While Vern slowed the group by challenging
many of the group's ideas, Teddy presented a much different challenge to the group.
Teddy is described in the beginning as being reckless and wild. He holds to that description right in
the beginning with two crazy incidents. When they leave in the beginning and are walking on the
train tracks, Teddy goes a little bit nuts and says he is going to dodge the train. It takes the entire
group to pull him away from the train tracks before the train comes. Teddy also becomes difficult
when the run away from the old man in the junkyard. When the old man calls his father "looney"
Teddy flips out. He starts kicking and punching even though he's on the other side of the fence. This
remains a problem with the group because they have to spend time comforting him before they get
back on the road again. On more then one occasion Teddy got in small fights with almost

Life is fragile, everything that knows life will eventually meet death; it is impossible to mention one
without the other. Humans have grasped the concept of life and death more so than any other
species, yet we still consider it one of the great unknowns. All man knows in regards to life, he
learns from his experiences with death. Man can look to many classic and religious texts searching
for the meaning of life, but the only way one can truly learn it is through experience. To many,
finding happiness means first coming to terms with the finite stretch of life one has and then making
the most of it. Many films try to breach the subject of the preciousness of life, but only a few seem

The use of narration helps to create a strong juxtaposition between Goride Lachance as a pre–teen,
and as a storyteller. Gordie's innocence is effectively brought to attention by how The Writer
describes the events transpiring on screen. Because the Writer's style of narration is omniscient, it
provides many opportunities for suspense and deeper meaning in each scene. While the narration is
mostly somber, there are a few instances of wit and humor to keep the story from becoming too
depressing. The use of narration also allows for the audience to jump into the action while the Writer
fills in any important missing information; without the Writer's brief descriptions and commentary,
the audience would undoubtedly become lost or bored. The effective use of narration allows for
flashbacks and jumping around inside the 1959 storyline. A great example of the effective use of
narration comes in the scene in which Vern overhears Charlie Hogan and his brother Billy
discussing the location of the dead boy, which Vern will soon tell the gang. As an audience it is
much easier to watch Vern's discovery than to simply hear his re–telling. The Writer is able to set the
scene of Vern digging underneath his house, by saying, "At the beginning of the school year, Vern
had buried a quart jar of pennies underneath his house. He drew a treasure map so he could find
them again. A week later, his mom cleaned out his room and threw away the map. Vern had been

intuition of what is happening across the courtyard. Throughout the movie Jefferies is trying to
prove that Thorwald has killed his wife even though he has yet to come up with any proof other than
a gut feeling and Thorwald's odd behavior at night. Rear Window leaves the viewer wondering if
Thorwald is guilty or innocent up until the very end.
Lisa Carol Fremont is the perfect 1950's woman. She is beautiful and fashionable. Lisa is in love

Abuse And Neglect
Abuse is something that has been happening for a while now and seems to be a recurring problem.
People are not aware of this problem because they do not step up and speak up for themselves. In
almost every situation the victims wish they would have said something sooner but did not. There
are many different kinds of abuse, but these are the most common.
Domestic abuse is something that happens to a lot of people, and is very common. As stated by the
department of justice "every 9 seconds a woman is beaten, every 20 minutes people are abused by

Walt Whitman
Walt used creativity, personal experiences and different ideas in his writing. He moved various times
through his childhood, and that may have moved his personality to become slightly neurotic. He has
done a lot of things in his life that has changed the way that future poets will write. Walt Whitman
entered this world on May thirty–first, eighteen–nineteen in West Hills, New York. He was the
second son among nine other children in his household. His parents were Louisa Van Velsor and

After he made the decision to move back to Brooklyn, he discovered the Brooklyn Freeman and
found his own original way to write poetry.
He was an American poet, journalist and also an essayist. Whitman had a huge impact on poetry. He
is considered to be one of the most influential poets in history and his styles of writing were
extremely unique. In his own special way he was known to be very intellectual, and an unusually
different poet.
He was also described as power–seeking, bisexual, and quirky. In the nineteenth century poets
weren't all that admirable, and he was especially looked down on for his sexuality. The sexuality of
Whitman is believed to have something to do with his writing and it is believed that he had some
kind of personal struggle with his sexuality as well. He finally realized that he was homosexual after
he had a handful of unsuccessful sexual tries. When he reached this realization, it gave his
imagination more power in his poems.
Whitman was admired by many, and after he became extremely well known he found nicknames
such as "The Bard of Democracy and "The Good Grey Poet" (Feldman 438) He was sought out to
be one of the greatest poets because of the material he placed in his compositions for the world to

"The Body vs. Stand by Me"
Did you know that Stand by Me a academy award winning film directed by Rob Steiner was based
of a novel called The Body by Stephen King ? In fact in both the novel and film the plot is the same
but there are some small changes. The plot is about four twelve year olds who embark into a journey
to discover the body of Ray Brower. During their journey each boy learns something extraordinary
about themselves and about there friends. The main conflict in the novel is that there is another
group of older boys who are also searching for the body. The novel was released in 1982 and the

In the novel the setting of the story takes place in a small town named Castle Rock that is located in
Maine in the year 1960 and in the film the setting is Castle Rock, Oregon in 1959. This difference
would be considered a minor change because it is only one year apart from the original date in the
novel and the change of the state does not really matter. Adding to differences is that in the novel in
chapter seven there is a story that is told by Gordie called "Stud City' in the film it is not shown or
mentioned. This would be considered a major change because the story shows how smart and
mature Gordie is for a twelve year old and it is important for the build up of the character but it is
excluded from the film. Another difference is that in the novel when the boys find the body and they
confront the other boys Chris pulls the gun out to make them leave. In the film it is Gordie who
takes out the gun to make them leave. This is a major change because in the novel it helped make
the ending make more sense and helped Chris' buildup as a character. In addition to differences in
the novel when the boys are on there journey they go into the pond to swim because they want to. In
the film they go into the pond because they have to in order to get across. This isn't considered a
major change because it doesn't affect the plot in any way. Something the filmmakers did well

How To Create Suspense In Hitchcock's Rear Window
The movie that I chose to critique is Rear Window, a realist film by Alfred Hitchcock produced in
1954. Starring James Stewart, Grace Kelly and, Wendell Corey. The genre is thriller and the sub
genre is suspense infused with mystery. Rear Window is one of Alfred Hitchcock's most inspired
audience participation films. When a person watches it, he feels, tantalized, shocked, and
exhilarated. Further in this essay, I will summarize the plots, discuss the styles used, and deconstruct
parts of the film.

Alfred Hitchcock, the director points it out to the audience as he concentrates on Jeff focusing on
what's happening inside his neighborhood. He allows the audience to stay focused as we become
voyeurs and see the various dramas that are being unfolded. Hitchcock has great technical brilliance
with a great ability to portray a story in a very distinctive manner. He uses the technique of dramatic
variation of size to achieve other desired emotions from the audience, by cutting from long shots to
extreme close ups. The story line in the film revolves around voyeurism, guilt, friendship, and
sexuality. Moreover, the editing techniques in the film are used to raise attention to the events that
are unfolding in front of us. The shots in the movie are connected in a relatively subjective style.
According to Hitchcock "Cutting should not be thought of in terms of "cutting" but rather in terms
more like "assembly" or "Mosaic'' (Hitchcok, 1963, p.4). Montage, is the process or technique of
selecting and piecing together separate sections of film to form a continuous whole. When two shots
are juxtaposed in such a way it gives the third another meaning. This is one classic examples of
Alfred Hitchcock's way of thinking. The use voyeurism in the film makes the audience conscious of
why the protagonist is behaving in a certain

Stand By Me Analysis
Don't judge a book by a cover, or in my case, don't judge a movie by when it was made. When I first
watched the movie 'Stand by me', I was expecting an old 'hippie' style plot and horrible filming and
acting– it was made in 1986 after all. However, I was wrong. Even if there had been bad filming, it
still wouldn't have overshadowed the amazing talent of the young actors and the engaging, coming
of age storyline. The movie starts with an older, wiser version of Gordie Lachance (Richard
Dreyfuss) reminiscing of the good times, in particular the summer of 1959, he had with his
childhood friend Chris Chambers. Sparked by the unforeseen death of Chambers, we are entered

Who Is Giles Corey In The Crucible

and got his wife accused of being a witch. One could make the argument that Giles didn't mean to
accuse his wife of witchcraft and that he just wanted to ask the witchcraft expert about his wife's
strange behavior, that's all. If that was the case, though, this quote shows how even those not taken
in by the funny claims or fear can still be affected by it. You would think that Giles would shut up
after that but he doesn't

Sparked by the unforeseen death of Chambers, we are entered
into a nostalgic flashback where the quartet of inseparable friends Gordie (Wil Wheaton), Chris
(River Phoenix), Teddy Duchamp (Corey Feldman) and Vern Tessio (Jerry O'Connell) are enjoying
their last summer together before they enter the years of adolescence and middle–school. Gordie,
Chris and Teddy are messing around once again in their tree house when ... Show more content on

Friendships grow stronger and unbreakable bonds are formed as the foursome experience life–
changing experiences. From 'fudging' on their parents, nearly being hit by a train or swimming in a
leech infested lake, the boys had to survive physical obstacles and also their own mental inner
demons. Gordie is still coming to terms with the loss of his beloved brother, a brother he admired
and who appreciated his growing talent for writing, unlike his parents who believe he was the one
who should have died. Chris comes from a bad family and has lost hope that he'll be able to get out
of Oregon to find a job from the negative perceptions everyone has about him. Teddy is mentally
and physically damaged from a psychotic father who nearly killed him and Vern, is on the chubby
side and is slow both physically and

Examples Of Justice In The Crucible
Imagine the wicked House of Un–American Activities Committee (HUAC) arrest an innocent man.
The HUAC does not arrest the man because he has committed a murder, but because he is a
communist. Many communists became victims of HUAC in the Red Scare crisis of the 1950s. These
communists made the right decision to speak out for their freedom and against injustice. These
communists also spoke out for their freedom of different beliefs. Speaking out for freedom and
against injustice is also present in Shirley Jackson's short story The Lottery, Arthur Miller's tragic
play The Crucible, and Elia Kazan's fictional movie On the Waterfront. Ultimately, these texts
illustrate that injustice, the desire for freedom, and the threat to one's rights makes it appropriate for
a person to speak out in times of crisis.
Primarily, injustice makes it appropriate for a person to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Corey speaks out that he never saw his wife practicing witchcraft, but only reading books. Corey
points out that his wife is not a witch and that Walcott has falsely accused Martha Corey of
witchcraft. Because Cheever arrested Martha Corey for reading books, it is clear that her right of
reading books is in threat and that she has faced injustice. Everyone in the town had the right to read
books, and to arrest only Martha Corey for reading books is showing a threat to Martha's rights. In
connection to Salem of 1692, America in the 1950s was also not free for everyone. In the 1950s,
many Hollywood writers and directors became victims of the McCarthy "witch" hunts for their
communist views. This oppression of McCarthy led those writers and directors to make a coalition,
and support each other as they fought for their rights. In the end, Giles Corey and Martha Corey
made the right decision to speak out during the Salem "witch" trials. Martha Corey gained support
from Giles just like the communists got support from each

Drones Bad
Drones are widely discussed if there good or bad for the environment around them or if
In one way arguments are saying they could say that drones are peaceful and they help spot dangers
with their camera and that they could help spot terrorist attacks earlier. But in the other argument,
they say that they could say drones are a danger up high to pilots and that they can be used to spy on
people. But this is why drones are bad for society and that they can be used for a lot of scary stuff
that can be used against you.
One reason why People need to get rid of drones is that they can spy on people. They can be used to
spy on borders and they will think that People are spying on them because People don't trust them.
drones can make people ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It can also be a possibility if a person gets something bad inside of your body or an infection in your
skin. They can also confuse or crash into pilots and if it's a passenger plane it can kill a lot of people
and it's more likely because other countries have them. Another reason that people need to get rid of
drones is because they can be used for terrorist attacks. They could attach something to the drone so
it can be used to attack us harshly and people wouldn't even see it coming. They can be used really
harshly against us and it could eventually start the third war and it can be more dangerous because
of all the technologically and because of small drones. Drones are hard to see so that's why it can be
dangerous for all countries and can lead to fewer allies for United states because people could also
use it or they can become more week.
Drones could be used to stop terrorist attacks and they could spy on killers and where terrorist
camps are. They could be used for spotting fires while they are starting or getting bigger and more

Characters Transition Into An Adult

  • 1. Characters Transition into an Adult As people will say growing up sucks, you finally realize you aren't a kid anymore. In the coming of age film, you see the main character emotionally transition into a adult. What makes the coming of age film special is the relationship the protagonist has with his or her group of friends. The coming of age film differs in friendships, depending on the gender of the main character. The friendships help shape how the protagonist is going to be by the end of the film, usually in a positive light. When the films characters are predominantly woman the film is usually emotional and sarcastic. The female friendships are not usually compromised and the girls are often loyal to a fault. In the film Now & Then (Lesli Linka Glatter 1995) Demi Moore & Gaby Hoffmann (young) play Samantha, a woman who is going home to fulfill a promise she made to her four three childhood friends Chrissy (Ashleigh Aston (young, Rita Wilson adult), Roberta (Christina Ricci young, Rosie O'Donnell adult), and Teeny (Thora Birch young, Melanie Griffith adult) to always be there when they were needed. Throughout the beginning of the film, Samantha is stressing about returning and meeting up with friends she hasn't seen in years. Sam even as a grown adult kept a childhood promise she could have easily have backed out on. Now & Then starts our in present time and goes back to when Sam feels like everything changed for her. • 5. What Is Voyeurism In Rear Window I chose to critique a movie called Rear Window, a realist film by Alfred Hitchcock produced in 1954. Starring James Stewart, Grace Kelly and, Wendell Corey. The genre is thriller and the sub genre suspense infused with mystery. Therefore, Rear Window one of Alfred Hitchcock's highly inspired audience participation films. When a person watches it, he feels, tantalized, shocked, and exhilarated. Further in this essay, I will summarize the plots, discuss the styles used, and deconstruct parts of the film. The protagonist film is Jeff who is photographer that broke one of his legs and is sitting in a wheel chair by his apartment window. Having nothing to achieve, Jeff gets very board he peeks at his neighbor's room from his rear window. With ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hitchcock, the director points it out to the audience as he concentrates on Jeff focusing on what's happening inside his neighborhood. Allowing the audience to stay focused, as we become voyeurs watching the various dramas unfolding. Moreover, Alfred Hitchcock has unlimited technical brilliance with a boundless ability to portray a story in a very distinctive manner. Using the techniques of dramatic variation of size to achieve other desired emotions from the audience, by cutting from long shots to extreme close ups. The story line in the film revolves around voyeurism, guilt, friendship, and sexuality. Moreover, the editing techniques in the film raise attention to the events that unfold in front of us. The shots in the movie are edited in a relatively subjective style. According to Hitchcock "Editing shouldn't be in terms of "cutting" but rather in terms of "assembly" or "Mosaic'' (Hitchcok, 1963, p.4). Therefor, Montage is the process or technique of selecting and piecing together separate sections of film to form a continuous sequence. When two shots juxtapose in such a way it gives the third shot another meaning. This is one classic examples of Alfred Hitchcock's way of thinking. The voyeurism practiced in the film makes the audience conscious of why the protagonist is behaving in a certain ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Giles Corey is an 83 year old man who lived and worked on a farm, and his wife was accused of witchcraft. Giles Corey and I have similar personality traits, we are both, loyal, sarcastic, and stubborn. Giles Corey and I are both very loyal people. Giles Corey shows that he is loyal because he wouldn't give his opinion on whether he thinks his wife is committed to witchcraft or not. Since Giles didn't say aye or nay, he was pressed to death. I am like Giles Corey in a way because I am also a loyal person. If we are having a serious conversation that you've never told anyone, or if you tell me a secret I will not tell anyone unless you give me your permission to tell them, if I'm also with a group of people and a topic that we talked about comes up I won't say your name. Something else that I'm loyal to is relationships. Along with Giles I am also pretty sarcastic, I try to make my sarcasm more entertaining than rude, but if I am rude and I catch it right away I'll apologize because it might've been offensive to the person. I'm usually sarcastic to my family or really close friends because some other people won't get my sense of humor. Football player Tony Gonzalez and his wife October, Guns N' Roses guitar player Duff Mckagan and wife Susan Holmes Mckagan, and Surviver stars Jenna Morasca and Ethan Zohn are just a few of the couples that have stripped down to pose for PETA ads. All of the couples mentioned are married to a parter that is the same race as them and none of the PETA ads featuring couples are interracial. Interestingly enough, PETA actually did a spoof on arguably one of the most famous interracial couple of all time, John Lennon and Yoko Ono. It portrayed Corey and Susie Feldman, both white, stripped down for a play on Lennon and Ono's famous "Give Peace a Chance" bed–in picture ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Behind them there are two signs. The one on the left reads "Give Peas A Chance" and the one on the right reads "Go Veg. PETA" (Cierlitsky). This ad is a very clever play one words, but it portrays a couple of problematic things. Just because the picture was played off of an interracial couple doesn't mean that PETA had to use an interracial couple, but it would have been a perfect time to make a statement (as PETA usually does) that there is nothing abnormal about interracial marriage. Having it be a heterosexual, white couple further perpetuates the heteronormative and white dominated advertising strategies that over run the media. This may be a different story if PETA portrayed an interracial couple in one of their ads, but this not the case. As Kumiko Nemoto points out in "Interracial Romance," there has been a serge in interracial relationships in the United States, particularity because of the growing immigrant population. Just a couple decades ago, it was illegal to marry someone of a different race. The United States has come a long way since then, however media tells a different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 17. Summary: The Influence Of Sexual Assault On College Campuses College women are 3 times more likely to be sexually assaulted than omen in the general population. One in four college women will be sexually assaulted while in college. In a national survey of adults, 37.4% of female rape victims were first raped between the ages 18–24. In a study of undergraduate women 19% experienced attempted or completed sexual assault since entering college (CDC, 2012). The myths and rape culture surrounding it makes the suffering and experiences of victims seem invalid and insignificant. Young women come to college for awesome experiences, to learn prosper and have fun not be taken advantage of. Humans need to feel secure and safe in new environments like university. Negligence, rape culture and lack of preparation by campus authority/administration when dealing with sexual assault(SA) further perpetuates sexual violence on college campuses. This disparity coincides with the idea that law enforcement and universities act indifferently when SA is reported. Teddy hinders group development by forcing the group to devote time and effort to control his behavior. Chris remains one of the leaders, but even at times presents a problem to the group. He has a very tough attitude and almost gets his eye burned out in the beginning trying to stand up against bigger, tougher kids. At the end of the movie he almost gets attacked with a knife for mouthing off to the same group of kids, but Gordie bailed him out. By standing up against difficult group members Gordie really showed his leadership skills. Gordie seems to have a lot of personal issues with finding this dead body because of how often he thinks about his older brother who had passed away. Gordie really takes this trip/adventure personally mainly because of how close he feels to this dead body. Only a few months before this trip, Gordy's older brother Denny had been killed in a car accident, and Gordy has been ignored at home since, which we see in flashbacks. Gordy aspires to be a writer, but the only support he had came from his brother. Now Gordie feels a very close relationship with ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Giles Corey was an 83 year old farmer who was accused of witchcraft. He didn't say if he was a witch or not so, his family would keep their land. Also for not saying who accused Ezekiel Cheever, he was pressed to death. Giles Corey and I exhibit similar personality traits in that we are hardworking, stubborn, and loyal. A characteristic thats Giles and I associate with is being a hard worker. Giles is a hard worker because all he does it farm. He plants, takes care of his animals, and chops wood. I am also a hard worker, I cut all the grass in our yard, the front and back. I use both the tractor and the lawnmower. I am also a hard worker in my MMA training. I started MMA in the middle of summer and I still do it. I do striking and Brazilian Jiu–Jitsu. I take MMA very serious because I would like to compete in fights. I also go to CWCTC Tech for masonry. • 33. Theme Of Honesty In The Crucible If honesty is the fastest way to prevent a mistake from turning into a failure, then why don't people just tell the truth? In 1938, the House Un–American Committee was created by Senator Joseph McCarthy who accused government employees of being Communists. McCarthyism had targeted not only the members of the United States Government but also the entertainers and writers. Author Miller was one of those writers. He wrote "The Crucible" to show the similarities between the Salem Witch Trials and the McCarthy Trails, who both accused people of being what they weren't.People accused in the McCarthy Trails went through the same tests as people in the Salem Witch Trials. In the play "The Crucible", the characters Mary Warren, John Proctor and Giles Corey all face a test of honesty, in which they either passed or failed.Mary Warren is unsuccessful in telling the truth, John Proctor cheated on his wife, and Giles Corey gets him and his wife sentenced to death. Mary Warren is the first to fail the test. She lets Abigail easily use her in this play which makes Mary look like a pawn in some kind of game. In court, Mary Warren was unsuccessful in exposing the hoax because of her fear of Abigail. While in distress Mary cries out," No, I love God; I go your way no more. I love god. I bless God. Abby, Abby, I'll never hurt you more!"(III.1461–1465) . In Addition to lying, she turned on John John Proctor, the man she was supposed to be helping expose the hoax. She agreed to testify ... • 37. Intoredance And Intolerance In The Crucible By Arthur Miller The definition of the word martyr as defined by Merriam–Webster is "a person who voluntarily suffers death as the penalty of witnessing to and refusing to renounce a religion." When many people think of a martyr their first instinct in their mind is not to think of witchcraft and the town of Salem. The play written by Arthur Miller titled "The Crucible" is based on real events that correlate with this definition. "The Crucible" depicts the 1692 Salem Witch Trials that transformed the town of Salem into hysteria. The start of the trials began way before Abigail Williams accused one of the townspeople of witchcraft, but when many girls were caught dancing and singing in the woods. The trials continued for less than a year but over 200 people were accused. With the breakout of hysteria and intolerance the town everyone seemed to turn on eachother. Giles Corey embodied the theme of the play "The Crucible" by being intolerant and going against the others, eventually costing him his life. To begin, the theme of "The Crucible" is intolerance. To understand this theme you have to know what Intolerance is. Unwillingness to accept views, beliefs, or behaviors that differ from one's own is intolerance. The reason supporting why Giles Corey embodies intolerance is because in the play, Giles was a dynamic character. This means that he went through a change throughout the play both physically and emotionally. The change that we see Giles go through is when he becomes intolerant and goes away from what majority of the others within Salem are believing, witchcraft. The argument of the proof that Giles showed his neighbor,Ann Putnam, about the accusation of witchcraft was another example of how he portrayed the theme throughout the play. Another lasting impact that Giles has on the theme of the play is that was intolerant to a large group of Salem townspeople whose main motive for witch accusations was for the dispute over land and wealth within the community. The accusation of Giles and his wife Martha is directly because of that dispute. Not only did the intolerance of the many people within the town caused Giles to change, but unfortunately cost him his wife's and his own life. A secondary thought to tie in with Giles and ... Application/ Synthesis– we learned how to take gained knowledge coupled with new information and synthesize it into an expression of our own learning. Character Traits Handout Introduction F. Scott Fitzgerald once noted, "Action is character." In other words, characters do things. They feel things. They hear things. They say things. They think things. They go places and so on. It is in these actions that the character's traits are established. It is in this that we, the readers, get to "see" what kind of character thee people are: friendly, sad, nosey, love–struck, adventurous, etc. When we discuss characters in literature, poetry, and even film, we often describe them in terms of their character traits, descriptive adjectives that define the specific qualities of the character. The author/ poet/ director may present this directly, but often times, they show us this in action. Our job as readers/ viewers is to draw conclusions about the character's traits (infer them). Below is a list of ways we can determine the traits of the character we are studying: [pic] 1. APPEARANCE AND NAME. A possible place to look for analysis is in the names of the characters: For example, Willy Loman from Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman. "Loman" says a lot about Willy be a "low man." It provides the reader an opportunity to analyze the name and character. Would a man with the last name of Loman be more likely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 62. Gender Roles InHalf-Hanged Mary? During the Puritan time's women had been thought of as less than men, of being inferior, weak, and lacking intelligence. In the poem, "Half–Hanged Mary" by Margaret Atwood the speaker tells the poem from Mary Webster's point of view. This poem goes into depth, and it gives chills to the reader. This poem is about Mary's experience of herself being executed by being hanged for not "fitting in as the other local townswomen's" for being an outcast, and as well as witchcraft accusations. Mary was hanged from a tree and was left there overnight, she explains to the reader very thoroughly her thoughts hour by hour, and it is known that when she was cut down she was still alive and lived for another 14 years. In The Crucible by Arthur Miller the women of the town, Salem were being hanged for being the outcasts and being thought of as witches. Things got out of hand in Salem and any finger that was pointed to someone else was just in revenge and selfishness. Punishment came to all those that men wished upon, without explanation or testimony. As in the poem "Half–Hanged Mary" and the anthology The Crucible it is proven that a women can stand up for herself against men and the expected gender roles. Francis tells Danforth that this is a mistake that his wife was a believer and held up the church, and that this isn't possible. Two of the women that are looked up to in the community arrested for an accusation, it's unbelievable the rest of the town didn't see the lies until later when it was too late. This contributes to the witch trials by some character such as these being targets. The people knew they were honest women and yet they were still questioned. Some of the characters were to prideful to admit these actions were wrong. Secondly the jealousy inside this play was one of the strongest roles to make the story what it was. One of which is a scene where Gordie is sitting peacefully on the train tracks and a young deer walks into view. This deer is representing the man motif throughout the movie and how they are coming of age on this journey because it symbolizes youth and innocence. The narrative voice then enforces this by saying "I didn't tell the others about the deer" which shows that Gordie was having a moment of understanding, which the others wouldn't think of the same way, and what it ... • 95. Mars Desper : A Short Story : Mars Vesper Mars Vesper had always been more of a rebellious type, so when his mother told him that he was grounded and had to stay home, his thoughts were elsewhere. Sure, he respected his folks, but he felt the reason he got grounded in the first place was stupid. He has been suspended from school for back–talking a teacher who, in his eyes, didn't know what she was talking about in the first place. Things got pretty heated when said "You're just a know it all who doesn't have shit better to do than scold teenagers," Just the fact that he cussed at a teacher and insulted her had made Mars' parents furious. They instantly brought him back up to the school following his suspension to apologizes to her. But even after that his parents weren't satisfied and he was grounded for two weeks. This meant no arcade, no television, and certainly no going to a Halloween party. He had initially planned to serve out his sentence without protest, until Juniper Sinclair had personally invited Mars to her party. "Hey, Marsy I'm about to make your day..." "Oh really? Did you finally decide to step up your game and ask me on a date?" Mars smirked at her. Her face turned a bright shade of embarrassment. "Ha, you wish! No actually I'm inviting you to my Halloween party on Wednesday. I know its not ideal but most of us are skipping on Thursday," "Thanks for the invite but I was planning on staying indoors, studying and watching paint dry actually," Mars said in a sarcastic tone. It doesn't have the same eerie feel as some of his other books and is generally a more serious movie. It takes place in the small town of Castle Rock, Oregon. It is the middle of the summer in approximately the early 1960's. The kids are bored and that is the setup for their adventure to go find a dead body in the woods. The main role of Gordie LaChance is played by Wil Wheaton. He is having trouble in his life at this time because he just lost his brother and his parents are having a very difficult time dealing with it. Chris Chambers was played by River Phoenix. Vern also slows the group when he refuses to go into the woods away from the tracks towards the trail. He then plays the role of backseat driver (class notes) when they reach the swamp saying, "I told you we should have kept following the train tracks". Vern hindered the development of the group. While they could have been devoting time to the task at hand, they had to spend time helping him with trivial things like dealing with him being scared when they are in the woods. While Vern slowed the group by challenging many of the group's ideas, Teddy presented a much different challenge to the group. Teddy is described in the beginning as being reckless and wild. He holds to that description right in the beginning with two crazy incidents. When they leave in the beginning and are walking on the train tracks, Teddy goes a little bit nuts and says he is going to dodge the train. It takes the entire group to pull him away from the train tracks before the train comes. Teddy also becomes difficult when the run away from the old man in the junkyard. When the old man calls his father "looney" Teddy flips out. He starts kicking and punching even though he's on the other side of the fence. This remains a problem with the group because they have to spend time comforting him before they get back on the road again. On more then one occasion Teddy got in small fights with almost ... Humans have grasped the concept of life and death more so than any other species, yet we still consider it one of the great unknowns. All man knows in regards to life, he learns from his experiences with death. Man can look to many classic and religious texts searching for the meaning of life, but the only way one can truly learn it is through experience. To many, finding happiness means first coming to terms with the finite stretch of life one has and then making the most of it. The use of narration helps to create a strong juxtaposition between Goride Lachance as a pre–teen, and as a storyteller. Gordie's innocence is effectively brought to attention by how The Writer describes the events transpiring on screen. Because the Writer's style of narration is omniscient, it provides many opportunities for suspense and deeper meaning in each scene. While the narration is mostly somber, there are a few instances of wit and humor to keep the story from becoming too depressing. The use of narration also allows for the audience to jump into the action while the Writer fills in any important missing information; without the Writer's brief descriptions and commentary, the audience would undoubtedly become lost or bored. The effective use of narration allows for flashbacks and jumping around inside the 1959 storyline. A great example of the effective use of narration comes in the scene in which Vern overhears Charlie Hogan and his brother Billy discussing the location of the dead boy, which Vern will soon tell the gang. As an audience it is much easier to watch Vern's discovery than to simply hear his re–telling. The Writer is able to set the scene of Vern digging underneath his house, by saying, "At the beginning of the school year, Vern had buried a quart jar of pennies underneath his house. He moved various times through his childhood, and that may have moved his personality to become slightly neurotic. He has done a lot of things in his life that has changed the way that future poets will write. Walt Whitman entered this world on May thirty–first, eighteen–nineteen in West Hills, New York. He was the second son among nine other children in his household. His parents were Louisa Van Velsor and Walter Whitman, a housebuilder. He was an American poet, journalist and also an essayist. Whitman had a huge impact on poetry. He is considered to be one of the most influential poets in history and his styles of writing were extremely unique. In his own special way he was known to be very intellectual, and an unusually different poet. He was also described as power–seeking, bisexual, and quirky. In the nineteenth century poets weren't all that admirable, and he was especially looked down on for his sexuality. The sexuality of Whitman is believed to have something to do with his writing and it is believed that he had some kind of personal struggle with his sexuality as well. He finally realized that he was homosexual after he had a handful of unsuccessful sexual tries. When he reached this realization, it gave his imagination more power in his poems. Whitman was admired by many, and after he became extremely well known he found nicknames such as "The Bard of Democracy and "The Good Grey Poet" (Feldman 438) He was sought out to be one of the greatest poets because of the material he placed in his compositions for the world to see. One in four college women will be sexually assaulted while in college. In a national survey of adults, 37.4% of female rape victims were first raped between the ages 18–24. Compare And Contrast The Body Vs Stand By Stephen King James Chacha Mr St. John and Mrs. Herron English 10 03 April 2016 "The Body vs. Stand by Me" Did you know that Stand by Me a academy award winning film directed by Rob Steiner was based of a novel called The Body by Stephen King ? In fact in both the novel and film the plot is the same but there are some small changes. The plot is about four twelve year olds who embark into a journey to discover the body of Ray Brower. During their journey each boy learns something extraordinary about themselves and about there friends. The main conflict in the novel is that there is another group of older boys who are also searching for the body. The novel was released in 1982 and the film was released in 1986. In the novel the setting of the story takes place in a small town named Castle Rock that is located in Maine in the year 1960 and in the film the setting is Castle Rock, Oregon in 1959. This difference would be considered a minor change because it is only one year apart from the original date in the novel and the change of the state does not really matter. Adding to differences is that in the novel in chapter seven there is a story that is told by Gordie called "Stud City' in the film it is not shown or mentioned. This would be considered a major change because the story shows how smart and mature Gordie is for a twelve year old and it is important for the build up of the character but it is excluded from the film. Another difference is that in the novel when the boys find the body and they confront the other boys Chris pulls the gun out to make them leave. In the film it is Gordie who takes out the gun to make them leave. This is a major change because in the novel it helped make the ending make more sense and helped Chris' buildup as a character. In addition to differences in the novel when the boys are on there journey they go into the pond to swim because they want to. In the film they go into the pond because they have to in order to get across. This isn't considered a major change because it doesn't affect the plot in any way. Alfred Hitchcock, the director points it out to the audience as he concentrates on Jeff focusing on what's happening inside his neighborhood. He allows the audience to stay focused as we become voyeurs and see the various dramas that are being unfolded. Hitchcock has great technical brilliance with a great ability to portray a story in a very distinctive manner. He uses the technique of dramatic variation of size to achieve other desired emotions from the audience, by cutting from long shots to extreme close ups. The story line in the film revolves around voyeurism, guilt, friendship, and sexuality. Moreover, the editing techniques in the film are used to raise attention to the events that are unfolding in front of us. The shots in the movie are connected in a relatively subjective style. According to Hitchcock "Cutting should not be thought of in terms of "cutting" but rather in terms more like "assembly" or "Mosaic'' (Hitchcok, 1963, p.4). Montage, is the process or technique of selecting and piecing together separate sections of film to form a continuous whole. When two shots are juxtaposed in such a way it gives the third another meaning. This is one classic examples of Alfred Hitchcock's way of thinking.
