This document discusses how rulers throughout history have used art to portray themselves and project power. Royal portraits often depicted leaders as youthful, wise, and dignified to idealize their image. Grand architecture and symbolic art in places of power communicated authority. Art also depicted warriors and fortifications to convey a ruler's military strength. Historical war scenes documented battles but presented them as glorious events from the victor's perspective. More recently, some artists have portrayed the realism and human costs of war to provide alternative perspectives. In conclusion, the document questions how art serves political interests and how politics have influenced artistic depictions of war.
