Case study: A number of people, including children, became ill several days after eating the
same brand of a salami-type sausage. Rather than being cooked, the sausage was made by a
fermentation process. Symptoms included diarrhoea (often bloody), severe stomach cramps,
nausea and headache. Some of the children became irritable and listless, and were taken to
hospital. They were found to be suffering from haemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). In spite of
kidney dialysis and other treatment, one of the children died a week later from a blood clot on
the brain. Some of the other children with HUS had only 50% normal kidney capacity and there
was a risk of long-term damage. Routine testing of samples from the children did not show up
any pathogens. However, specialized tests showed up a toxin similar to Shigella toxin.

CASE STUDY
The graduate admissions process at begins with an applicant creating an application on the
application website. If the applicant does not have a student ID, they must create a new account,
otherwise they can log in with their student ID. Applicants select the program they wish to apply
for, and their desired entry semester. Next, applicants need to provide personal information, and
answer three questions about why they wish to study the chosen program, what they hope to
achieve after completing the program and any special circumstances to be considered. Applicants
must provide the names and email addresses of two referees. Applicants can upload multiple
documents, such as their CV, confirmation of their undergraduate degree, English language
proficiency certificates, etc. When applicants submit an application, they must pay the
application fee by credit card. After payment and submission, the application system will
automatically send emails to the two referees with a link to a web page where the referees can
provide references about the applicant. When these references are entered, they are added to the
application. After an applicant submits an application, they are able to upload further documents
until the application is finally decided on by the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) enrolment
director later in the process (see below). After an application is submitted, the application system
creates and assigns a student ID to new applicants. the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) staff
performs an initial check to decide which academic department the application should be sent to,
and passes it to the graduate admission staff of that department. When the graduate admissions
staff of the academic department receives an application from SGS staff, they check for entry
semester and completeness of the application. If an applicant has selected an entry semester for
which no admission is offered, the graduate admission staff complete a form to recommend
rejection of the applicant with an offer of reconsideration to the next available semester. This
recommendation form is passed to the graduate officer (GO) of the academic department. If
admission is offered for the desired entry semester but the application is incomplete, nothing is
done while the graduate admission staff waits for further documents or references. The graduate
admission staff must regularly check the application for completeness, because neither the
application system nor SGS notifies the academic department when additional documents arrive
(either submitted by the applicant, or references entered by referees). If an application is still
incomplete by the application deadline, the graduate admission staff fills in a form to recommend
rejection of the applicant and send this recommendation to the graduate officer (GO) of the
academic department. The GO can either accept or reject the recommendation by the graduate
admission staff to reject an applicant. If the recommendat.

Case study Read the following case study and write your report about the project formotion
damage concepts in the field and state your final conclusion. Abstract The Ruba reservoir in the
Casanare region of Colombia is currently being appraised and developed. Cost effective
development of the reservoir will be dependent on applying optimum drilling and completion
practices. The purpose of this poster session is to provide a case study history for the approach
and evolution of the project as it pertains to attainine an improved understanding of fonnation
damage mechanisms. Introduction Background Ruba Field is located in the kithills, 150 miles
northeast of Africa. Light (>34* AP1) oil, gas and condensate in Ruba occur at drilling depths
which average 16000 ft . in an asymmetric hanging wall anticlinal trap 14 miles long and 3 miles
wide, formed during the Mioceneto-fiecent deformation. Top and lateral seals are provided by
marine mudstones of the Oligocene Carbonera Group, and support a hydrocarbon column of over
1600 ft . The region is tectonically stressed in the formations which overlay the Ruba reservoir.
Because of this, drilling conditions are ditficult with wellbore instability, mud losses, and stuck
pipe common. Geology and Mineralogy Over 50% of the reserves occur in Late Eocene Mirador
Fm sandstones, deposited in fluvial and shallow marine environments. Additional, deeper
reservoirs include fluvial and shallow marine Paleocene Barco Fm sandstones, and the shallow
marine Campanian Upper Guadalupe Sandstone Fm. Porosity in fuba is relatively low, and
averages 9% in the Mirador Fm . Good permeability is retained, however, because the reservoirs
are pure quartz-cemented quartz arenites, in which permeability-reducing authigenic clays and
carbonate cements are absent. Core and well test analysis indicate matrix permeability, not
fracture permeability, provides the high deliverability (> 12,000 BOPD) of Ruba wells.
Reservoir Fluids Ruba hydrocarbon phases exist in a near miscible, critical point state. Analysis
indicates very high liquids recoveries will be achieved using reinjection of produced gas. The
field will therefore be developed using reinjection of produced gas to maintain reservoir pressure
and vaporize residual liquids. The field contains significant volumes of hydrocarbon liquids and
large volumes of gas. Key Components of the Well Process Analyzed The study focuses on
evaluating the key phases within the well process that are known to influence mechanical skin
damage and corresponding well productivity. The phases analyzed include conceptual planning,
reservoir mud systems, wellbore constraints, mud losses, hardware constraints, perforating
parameters, kill pill designs, and completion brines. Drill Stem Testing Operations 16 drill stem
tests have been conducted for Ruba over the previous 2 years that are considered valid for
analyses and calculation of mechanical damage skin. The majority ( 7 out of 8 DSTs) of the data

Case History- Tracking a -Patchwork Quilt- Pathogen Nine-month-old Eva.pdfakknit
Case History: Tracking a "Patchwork Quilt" Pathogen Nine-month-old Eva had 12 clinic visits
over a 7-month period because of a runny nose and/or ear infections. During each episode,
nasopharyngeal swabs were obtained for bacterial culture, and Streptococcus pneumoniae was
revealed. Although all the infections were resolved with antibiotics, scientists gained insight into
pathogen evolution by seeing how the isolates compared. Each isolate was first analyzed for
seven genes that can indicate strain variability-a process called multilocus sequence typing
(MLST). The lab found two MLST types, indicating that the patient was infected with two
different strains of S.pneumoniae. However, when the complete genomes of several of the
isolates were sequenced and compared, four different genotypic strains were identified-all of
which evolved as a result of 16 distinct recombination events between strains (Figure 9.21).
Curiously, the technicians noticed that some recombined sequences did not seem to come from
either of the two primary coinfecting strains. Instead, it appeared that this new DNA came from
uncultured and undetected strains of S . pneumoniae that had colonized Eva's throat at one time
or another. Horizontal gene transfers (transformations) between the undetected and detected
isolates appear to have produced, like a patchwork quilt, the new recombined strains of S .
pneumoniae. The genome sequence data clearly support the idea that S . pneumoniae evolution is
characterized by high rates of horizontal gene transfer and recombination. 2nd attempt Which of
the following statements best describes how multiple S. pneumoniae genotypes arose during
Eva's multiple infections? Choose one: A. S. pneumoniae acquired DNA from Eva's throat cells
that had lysed due to recurrent colonization. B. Competent S. pneumoniae took up DNA from
other S. pneumoniae cells that had died. C. It occurred by pilus-mediated contact and transfer of
genes between two individual living S . pneumoniae cells. D. Chromosomal genes were

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

The patlent's history revealed that he had diabetes, which was poorly controlled with metformin
and had Injured his leg in a fall 2 months previously. An X ray revealed pockets of gas between
tissue layers in the lower leg. Blood and tissue samples were sent for culture. The patient was
moved to the ICU and treatment was immediately begun with plperacillin, moxifloxacin, and
vancomycin. The patient's family was counseled that depending on the results of the culture and
the progression of his disease, he might need amputation or treatment in a hyperbaric chamber.

D. Chromosomal genes were
transferred among S. pneumoniae by bacteriophage..

We all have good and bad thoughts from time to time and situation to situation. We are bombarded daily with spiraling thoughts(both negative and positive) creating all-consuming feel , making us difficult to manage with associated suffering. Good thoughts are like our Mob Signal (Positive thought) amidst noise(negative thought) in the atmosphere. Negative thoughts like noise outweigh positive thoughts. These thoughts often create unwanted confusion, trouble, stress and frustration in our mind as well as chaos in our physical world. Negative thoughts are also known as “distorted thinking”.
This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
