Abstract
The importance of social media for companies has been stressed by many researchers. Many
researchers have also discussed the differences and similarities between product and service. These
two things can be seen as the starting point of this research, which looked for differences and
similarities in multi-channeling and the use of social media by companies from both typologies.
Drawing on a sample of 384 randomly chosen companies, the results demonstrated that there is a
significant difference in the use of social media between the two typologies. We recommend the use
of social media tools and discuss why it can be of great value for both typologies.
1 Introduction
“Do you already like us on Facebook?” and “Are you following us on Twitter?” are questions
people encounter daily while browsing the internet, reading the newspaper, or watching television.
Many research papers have stressed the importance and value of social media for organizations
today (Wilson et al, 2011; Kaplan & Haenlein, 2010; Laroche et al, 2013; Lukes, 2010). The
importance of social media for companies is not only indicated by writing about the new possibilities
of social media, but also by identifying shifts in the use of existing concepts. Such a shift has
happened, for instance, with the term Willingness To Pay (WTP) which is commonly used term in
organizational and marketing literature. Instead of searching for the WTP, companies are now
searching for the Willingness to Participate (Parent et al, 2011). Goals concerning advertising,
organizing contests, distributing information, building communities etc. have been made easier for
companies by social media like Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.
Social media can both be internally and externally of significant importance for companies.
Internally, social media can play a role as social tool for knowledge sharing (Sultan, 2012). It is stated
in a research conducted by Cross et al (2001) that employees often prefer asking work-related advice
informally to colleagues rather than looking up information in a system. Externally, Social Media can
contribute very well to the Customer Relationship Management(CRM) activities of a company. With.
Online Data Preprocessing: A Case Study Approach
Besides the Internet search facility and e-mails, social networking is now one of the three best uses of the Internet. A tremendous number of volunteers every day write articles, share photos, videos and links at a scope and scale never imagined before. However, because social network data are huge and come from heterogeneous sources, the data are highly susceptible to inconsistency, redundancy, noise, and loss. For data scientists, preparing the data and getting it into a standard format is critical because the quality of data is going to directly affect the performance of mining algorithms that are going to be applied next. Low-quality data will certainly limit the analysis and lower the quality of mining results. To this end, the goal of this study is to provide an overview of the different phases involved in data preprocessing, with a focus on social network data. As a case study, we will show how we applied preprocessing to the data that we collected for the Malaysian Flight MH370 that disappeared in 2014.
Mobility & Social Media
This essay briefly highlights the expanding use and impacts of mobile communications and social media in today’s world. The opportunities and challenges that these tools introduce are described. Networked computers and communications systems are now part of the daily life of a significant percentage of the public all over the world because we are in a new era of computerization. Arguably, the most crucial importance to the development of the public policy choice that fueled this increase in networked computing was the introduction of public access to the Internet. The Internet, as described by Kurose & Ross (2013) is a worldwide computer network which provides a host of communication and information capabilities, that is made up of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols. The Clinton–Gore White House showed a high level of symbolic support for “information superhighways” which contributed to the popularization of the interest in the public access to the Internet, as well as the enthusiasm of Technology Journalists, business, and entertainment. The possibilities of the widespread public access to the Internet enabled significant developments in many applications, including electronic commerce (eCommerce), Electronic Publishing, distance learning like the Walden DIT program, virtual communities, and digital libraries. According to Noam (1995), the evolution of these new applications raised a lot of important questions and arguments about the social changes that could arise as a result of the widespread public use of the internet. Most of the arguments centered around whether electronic commerce, as portrayed by eBay and Amazon.com could gradually drive away the markets of physical stores. Noam (1995), further noted that many people also wondered whether widespread distance learning such as the programs in online Universities could provide new opportunities for an inexpensive and convenient home education that could become attractive enough to reduce the enthusiasm for place-based colleges and universities rapidly. Harnad (1991) and Fuller (1995) were concerned about the rapid development of electronic journals serving as a low-cost alternative to the increasingly expensive print journals. Furthermore, they pondered whether digital libraries would reduce the need for “brick and mortar” libraries and also the threat to community life if most social activities were to move from face-to-face, place-based settings to online forums.

Enterprise Mobility Applications: Addressing a Growing Gap
This new report on enterprise mobility applications highlights the alarming gap between Central IT and line-of-business IT environments. Millennials in particular are showing signs of growing frustration with the devices and software tools available to support them in the workplace. Many are making their own mobility arrangements, through ‘shadow IT’, despite growing regulatory risk. The advent of the ‘Internet of Things’ will further exacerbate the situation as mobile staff seek access to real time data from their phones and tablets.
Our recent survey of over 100 financial service organizations, conducted by Forbes Insights in the UK and North America, indicates that despite current business and employee demand, enterprise mobile applications remain at a very early stage of maturity, with less than a quarter of employees eligible to access such facilities. The implications here are profound, given the need to support mobile working with appropriate tools in every sphere of corporate activity today.
Many employees complain that the only advance over the last ten years has been to ‘mobilize the laptop’. This merely emulates the traditional desktop environment outside the office. Set against this stark background of underperformance in the mobility area, Central IT appears to be preoccupied with legacy issues such as costly infrastructures and aging systems. Our survey reveals that despite having developed policies and tools to address enterprise mobility, Central IT has little visibility of what is actually going on within the lines of business or at the end user level.
Nor does it have the necessary resources currently to respond rapidly to the growing pressures for workplace mobility. External agencies appear to be stepping in to fill this gap, frequently circumventing Central IT. Mobility remains low on the Central IT agenda.
An empirical study on the usage of social media in german b2 c online stores
Customers in electronic commerce (e-commerce) are shifting more and more from content consumers to
content producers. Social media features (like customer reviews) allow and encourage user interaction in
online stores. An interesting question is, which social media features are actually provided by online stores
to support user interaction. We contribute knowledge to this question, by studying the social media features
of the 115 highest-grossing German B2C-online stores from the years 2010 and 2011. We categorize the
results of the observational study into the seven building blocks of social media to understand what areas
of social media are used the most in these online stores. The results of our study show, that the average
online store implements about five social media features and that the majority of the features are placed on
product pages. The most common features were customer reviews and ratings and the sharing and liking of
product details.

No one is suggesting that being admitted into a jail cell is the same as being admitted into a hospital bed. There are many obvious differences between the two, including the basic purpose of the two institutions.
But while much is different, what is the same is how a pre-existing set of structured behaviors and processes are used to firmly, and without asking or negotiating, radically transform a “regular” person into a defined role of a “patient” that then can be diagnosed, treated, and discharged back into the world once the patient has finished their “time” in the “system.”
While patient-centered care emphasizes the value of increased sensitivity to a patient’s preferences, needs, and values, what we want to focus on is how decisions made by healthcare leaders affect the actual experience of a person receiving that care.
So with the "real person" in mind, this week's question is:
What can healthcare leaders do in improve the actual personal experience that "real people" go through as our "patients?"

We thought about having a Smart Watch interface, but we don’t need that. We want to get real time alerts when a sign gets knocked over in an accident and have a dashboard that shows where signs have been knocked over across the state. This is kind of important, but not super-critical. We need to store location information, types of signs, when a new sign is installed, who installed it, etc. We plan to provide the phone app to drivers in each district who will drive around, take pictures of the signs, and upload them to the database at the end of each day, or in realtime, if a data connection is available.
Back in Central Office, reviewers will review the sign information and validate it. A report will be printed every month with the results and a map. There are probably other things, but we can’t think of anything else right now.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
