Jose Lourenco led a workshop to teach young writers how to create and publish their own chapbooks. Participants brought short stories that Jose edited and helped print into chapbooks. Authors worked on templates to learn how to balance text and illustrations on a page. They focused on neat printing so their stories could be bound within an hour. The workshop helped authors experience the process of bringing a story from idea to published form.

2. Each participant had to bring a story that Jose would edit and publish insitu , giving participants the experience of what it takes to bring a story idea to print form

3. Authors began with a short story that was written, illustrated and bound within the hour, to demonstrate how to organise and balance text and illustration and page layout

4. Authors worked on templates developed by Chirput Press, Jose’s chapbook production company

5. The writing process requires a different kind of attention that our authors brought to the table – literally!

6. Story themes included poetry, fiction, favourite things to do, animals, reading, language and fantasy

7. All authors worked carefully to ensure that their printing of the story was neat and clear.
